Liked Quiet, nice shady areas, plenty of water taps and electric hookups. Individual pitches (boards/mini fences in between each pitch). Some pitches have picnic benches but not all.

Ducks on site which was lovely to see and even saw three deer run across the site in front of us as we drove in. Could hear owls calling at night.

Disliked Toilets/showers could be cleaner. Lots of cobwebs and no squeegee for people to try and clean showers after themselves. Fairly quiet on the campsite so no idea how this would be when campsite busier.

Walkways through the woods to the lake could be more prominent. Nice to be in nature but came back with lots of stinging nettles stings.

Some road noise from A38 all through the night but not a lot that can be done about that and didn't stop us from sleeping really.

Liked The weather! 30 degree C whilst we visited... other than that, the pitches are really big, well kept and level.

Disliked The kids play park needs some TLC. It was falling apart and poor repair work clearly not up to the job.
The showers were functional but have seen better days. The taps have to be held down to let water our which is frustrating.
Signs for other facilities are not there, we stumbled across the waste area and sinks for washing up.
The staff were not enthusiastic at check in, with limited conversation and despite local attraction leaflets being on the desk, zero promotion or offering to share their local knowledge.

Liked Great site layout with elec and water at most pitches. Large shower block with lovely hot showers.

Disliked Providing a squigie or mop would allow shower users to clean after themselves ready for next user.

Liked Great place to stay. People were very friendly and left you alone. Showers were hot, the push buttons could have stayed on a little longer but all in all, it was clean and tidy and a great place to stay for a few days.

Disliked Only down side was reception was pretty poor but then your camping.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very spacious and clean. Was perfect for what we needed. Friendly. Very accommodating as we arrived earlier than check in but wasn’t a problem and weren’t rushed of the site as packing away. Shower facilities were cleans frequently, there are around 4 shower and 4 toilet cubicles then also urinals (mens). Also 3 pin socket for hair dryer. Allowed to pitch where preferred but within a wooden boundary so was nice to have your own little space. Park for kids and I think football goals, but didn’t venture that far. Phone signal good so not sure on WiFi so only rated it 10 lol.

Disliked Didn’t seem to be a shop or food on site, didn’t effect us as the closest town is 10/15mins to Exeter Tesco and we cook every night anyways.

Local attractions

Bring the bikes to Devon or hire wheels at Haldon Forest Park to take full advantage of the miles of woodland mountain bike and cycle trails for various levels of ability. Discovery trails, play equipment and several walking trails are also in the forest park including the circular Butterfly Trail and the easy-rated Mamhead Sensory Trail with gorgeous views along the Jurassic Coast and over the Exe estuary. A ten mile horse riding trail is also around for more relaxed forest sightseeing, with horse riding of a different type at the forest’s Exeter Racecourse. Dartmoor National Park, with more hacking, hiking and biking as well as tor climbing, guided walks and geocaching, is a short drive from the holiday park. It has regular events throughout the year, towns and villages to take in, the famous Dartmoor ponies to spot and Dartmoor Zoo with meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. Bring binoculars along with the bikes: the forest park and surrounding area are wildlife havens, with rare birds of prey and wild deer in the forest itself and birdwatching a few miles away at the Site of Special Scientific Interest the Exe Estuary: watch oystercatchers showing excellent culinary taste in breaking open mussels at Bull Hill or take a trip to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren at the estuary’s mouth. If you’re bringing along the bikes, the National Cycle Network Exe Estuary Trail runs to Exmouth from Dawlish. The sublime sand of Dawlish Warren is one of several South Devon sandy stretches, with the beaches at Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay within easy distance of Haldon Forest and the coastal towns of Torquay and Paignton a little further along the coast. Exmouth is the place to don the wetsuit as it’s known for watery sports of all types including diving, windsurfing and sailing; it’s also a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Finally, a stay at Haldon Forest has to include a day or two in Exeter to see its twelfth century cathedral, medieval Guildhall and famous historic quayside with antique shops, restaurants, canoe and boat trips and events such as dragon boat racing and guided tours.
