  • Smart family-run park within Woodbury Common
  • Easy drive into Exeter
  • Excellent facilities including bar, bistro and play area
They say an Englishman’s (motor)home is his castle – so when choosing where to brake, you’ll want a spot fit for a king. Castle Brake Holiday Park in east Devon should pass muster: it’s a smart, family-run park within the heathland of Woodbury Common, ideally placed for an invasion of Exeter and the sought-after sands of the Jurassic Coast. The facilities are splendid: a spotless, cedar-clad amenities block with underfloor heating and family bathrooms; a laundry room; the Castle Inn bar and restaurant for homemade nosh using local ingredients (takeaways are also available); a play area; and ample space for a peaceful stroll and a bit of wildlife spotting. (Please note that the bar and restaurant are not open every evening during low season.) Castle Brake Holiday Park is within half an hour's walk of the village of Woodbury, which has a handful of good pubs and shops, or it’s an easy ride into Exeter for anything else you might need.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: The Site was Clean & tidy, But

Disliked: Our pitch was very unlevel, we had to put chucks under our Motorhome wheels & we were still pointing downhill. The pub is very small & only open in the evenings, the food there is Very Over Priced, I had a 8oz stak @ £19.95 it was cooked ok but it did not have a lot of Flavour, but the staff were friendly. We would suggest you eat & drink off site. There is not very much for children to do on this site. No pool, just climing frames, or a games room which you have to pay extra to use.

From the manager: Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We're pleased to hear that you found our site clean and tidy and appreciated our friendly staff. The Castle Inn offers a cosy evening atmosphere, and we will of course take on board your feedback regarding the menu and pricing - we constantly review these to ensure quality and value are both delivered. As you will know from having stayed, Castle Brake is a woodland, countryside Holiday Park focused on rest, relaxation and enjoyment of the outdoors - however, for future reference please have a look at our sister site, Ladram Bay, which has an abundance of amenities to keep kids entertained. Kind Regards The Castle Brake Team

Orchard camping pod (plus)

Liked: A friendly quiet site good shower block and nice bar and restaurant though not open every day. Best of all was our pod plus, really well maintained and spacious, and the luxury of own loo and wash basin ahhhhh bliss. Microwave, couple of hobs, good size fridge with ice box, electric kettle and sink. Comfy double and bunks were great fot suitcases as only the 2 of us. Just remember to take everything else you would when camping bedding, pots utensils etc.

Disliked: Glad we took camp lamp as if one wanted to sleep while the other awake lights were a bit all or nothing but overall a minor detail

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a wonderful review. It certainly sounds as if you had a very comfortable stay in our Orchard pods. Local attractions

Six miles from Castle Brake Holiday Park are the red cliffs of Budleigh Salterton and the family-friendly sands of Exmouth, gateways to the glories of the Jurassic Coast. A little further along the coast is Sidmouth, which features ravishing Regency architecture along its sweeping esplanade. Whether you’re a culture hound or an outdoorsy creature, there’s plenty to do within easy reach: exit into Exeter, an attractive cathedral city brimming with museums and historic sites, or delve into Dartmoor, for more remote adventures. For splashy and screamy fun, a wilderness woodland, indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, farm animals and more, head to the Crealy Great Adventure Park, a mere four miles up the road from Castle Brake. Or try the World of Country Life, which has a petting zoo, indoor and outdoor rides and slides, vintage steam engines, museums and events as eclectic as welly wanging and the six nations ferret races...
