  • Old-fashioned site with modern facilities
  • A 10-minute walk to beach, dunes and nature reserve of Dawlish Warren
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, 10 minutes' walk from the Devon coastline and 25 minutes from a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… You might want two weeks (at least) at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish Warren, 15 minutes' drive away from Teignmouth and 35 minutes from Torquay. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have the nicest time possible: although this is traditional and uncommercialised camping, standards are modern, including a redeveloped amenities block with showers, toilets, hot water basins, a hairdryer, baby changing unit and an accessible room with shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and nosh, a supermarket is a mile away, and anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way. It's also possible to walk to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes or walk/cycle around half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

What customers say

This is a highly-rated campsite with spacious, clean pitches and immaculate facilities, including showers for a small charge. Staff are consistently praised for being friendly, helpful, and welcoming, going above and beyond for guests. The location is excellent, a short walk to Dawlish Warren, with good transport links. On-site food options and a shop are popular bonuses. While some found pitches slightly sloped and Wi-Fi patchy, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests planning return visits.

Fox electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked The welcome from when we turned up...didn't even have to get out of the car and taken straight to the pitch! Lovely maintained site and cleanliness of shower/toilet blocks second to none. Loved the way it was so quiet from 22.30 onwards which was adhered to and monitored. Just don't forget 20p prices for the shower which didn't bother me at all!

Owl electric grass touring pitch (XL)

Liked We were met by a very courteous and helpful gentleman who showed us to our spacious pitch.
The facilities are excellent and very clean and a bus stop right by the entrance was very convenient.
A great place to cycle and walk from.

Disliked We stayed for three nights but had to pay for a week of WiFi (provided by an external company) which at £20 is a tad expensive as we still couldn't connect the smart TV and our calls to the help line were ignored.
The pitch sloped and even with a leveller we couldn't get our campervan level.

Liked Fabulous campsite. We only stayed one night but wished it was longer.
We got a nice welcome at 5pm on a Sunday and were lucky enough to be able to get food at the marvellous Amanda’s food van at 7.30pm.

Site has fantastic, clean toilet blocks and good showers.

We’ll be back!

Disliked Nothing! Great place.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year, apart from in high season. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon (15 minutes) has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (20 minutes; more golf), Torquay (40 minutes), Newton Abbot (half an hour; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (40 minutes) and Paignton (40 minutes; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
