  • Award-winning 80-acre site two miles from the beach
  • Pools, pub, fish and chip shop, sauna, steam room and gym
  • Five private fishing lakes, woodland adventure zone and nature trails
Anyone who relishes a bit of variety on their holidays should give this award-winning site serious consideration: there are buckets and spades of activities for all ages, both on site and in the immediate vicinity. Tucked into a valley, only a mile away from swathes of Blue Flag beaches, and a 10-minute drive from Dawlish Warren, Cofton Holidays has 80 acres of meadows, orchards and woodland laced with nature trails for visitors to explore. The facilities here will keep the whole family happily entertained for weeks: Cofton's indoor pool has massage jets and hydrotherapy bubble loungers, as well as a sauna, steam room and gym (a small additional charge applies), and there's a splash area with water jets to entertain the kids. Or set off angling instead at one of the five private fishing lakes, to bag a monster carp (24-pounders aren't unknown here). More? Kids can bounce around in the three dedicated play areas or explore the adventure zone in the woods, with activities such as pond dipping and bug hunting laid on in season; if it’s raining, there’s also a games room with amusements and a pool table. After these exertions, retire to the poolside patio of the Swan Inn for a refresher and a snack: the pub opens every night and serves up a good range of grub (breakfast and lunch are also available at weekends), plus regular entertainment including live bands, discos and karaoke in high season. Cofton also has its own fish and chip joint, as well as a shop for any vittles you might need. Wifi across the whole site (charges apply) means staying connected is simple, and it’s also worth mentioning that Cofton has excellent facilities for disabled visitors.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location is amazing, very scenic and amazing beach nearby. There is a little fair at Dawlish Warren beach, reasonable arcade and food stalls. Alongside this there is a good walk along the Trainline towards cliff areas and dunes. The campsite its self has great facilities including entertainment probably prime audience being under 8/9’s but enjoyed by many. Outdoor pool is free and a good size. Pitches are also a reasonable size with enough room for a large six person tent + car + room for a seating/cooking area. The particular toilet blocks I used were updated in comparison to some other toilet blocks, with launderette facilities attached. Staff seem positive, and the entertainment staff are beyond enthusiastic. As a safety point, the flow of traffic around the site seems very thought out, and the pathing was very well laid out for kids aswell. Very important to us parents! Can not comment on activities such as high ropes, fishing, gym, indoor swimming pool or catering on site due to not using these.

Disliked: Whilst the site is in a good location, if you want to experience “prime” Devon such as Totnes, Torquay, Paignton etc it’s much more down south requiring atleast a 30 minute + drive. These areas include many of the tourist activities such as the steam train, touring boat, Totnes market, sea life tour etc. So keep that in mind when booking. The shower block I used has a button system to reduce water waste (which is great don’t get me wrong) but the timer was literally 3 seconds before going off again, I think a little longer would be beneficial. The site is “aware” of an issue between PitchUp and their system which the system doesn’t recognise the customer has paid on PitchUp and requires another payment, the service desk said the refund had been issued but conveniently when I emailed a few days later stating I still hadn’t received the money, the refund was then issued (not a huge issue depending on whether you can live a few days without a few hundred £, in the end I did receive the money back). The indoor pool price is extortionate for the amount of time you get, I understand it is open to the public aswell and money has to be made somewhere, but we would of paid to go in if it wasn’t for the price, so we settled for the outdoor pool in the rain. I feel the outdoor pool should have some changing facilities, as you have to walk through the pub area to get to the closest toilets which I think is a little odd. The pitches (whilst large) are very crammed together, which is probably fine when it’s not busy, but when busy can be a little claustrophobic. When the 1pm show is on, the bar wasn’t open, which I understand staffing and stuff but the closest drinks place was upstairs, and because everyone wanted drinks, my partner didn’t make it back downstairs till the show was over (another very small thing). The entertainment area was in the same place as the restaurant, so if someone ordered fish and chips it stunk the room out. Signal/WiFi is not very good.

7.5 metre electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Staff friendly and helpful from start to departure, Pitch, Facilities, Shop, Food (wide variety and good value for money) Lots of entertainment for kids (didnt use) Nice walk over the hill to outside entertainment/beaches in Dawlish

Disliked: Having to pay for Wifi - mobile reception poor as in valley But fast Wifi once paid Our pitch had prepaid electric, which was easy to set up, but bit of a joke as we used 20p of electricity over 3 nights, (quick and easy refund of overpayment)
