Pitch overlooking the devon countryside

  • Award-winning 80-acre site two miles from the beach
  • Pools, pub, fish and chip shop, sauna, steam room and gym
  • Five private fishing lakes, woodland adventure zone and nature trails
Anyone who relishes a bit of variety on their holidays should give this award-winning site serious consideration: there are buckets and spades of activities for all ages, both on site and in the immediate vicinity. Tucked into a valley, only a mile away from swathes of Blue Flag beaches, and a 10-minute drive from Dawlish Warren, Cofton Holidays has 80 acres of meadows, orchards and woodland laced with nature trails for visitors to explore. The facilities here will keep the whole family happily entertained for weeks: Cofton's indoor pool has massage jets and hydrotherapy bubble loungers, as well as a sauna, steam room and gym (a small additional charge applies), and there's a splash area with water jets to entertain the kids. Or set off angling instead at one of the five private fishing lakes, to bag a monster carp (24-pounders aren't unknown here). More? Kids can bounce around in the three dedicated play areas or explore the adventure zone in the woods, with activities such as pond dipping and bug hunting laid on in season; if it’s raining, there’s also a games room with amusements and a pool table. After these exertions, retire to the poolside patio of the Swan Inn for a refresher and a snack: the pub opens every night and serves up a good range of grub (breakfast and lunch are also available at weekends), plus regular entertainment including live bands, discos and karaoke in high season. Cofton also has its own fish and chip joint, as well as a shop for any vittles you might need. Wifi across the whole site (charges apply) means staying connected is simple, and it’s also worth mentioning that Cofton has excellent facilities for disabled visitors.

What customers say

Top-rated campsite with spotless amenities: clubhouse, pools, dining. Clean, dog-friendly, heaps of activities. Downsides: tough pegs, pricey grub. Beautiful spot, top staff. Many keen to come back.

Liked Location was lovely the campsite and complex was clean staff were very friendly. Shop was priced reasonably for holiday complex.

Disliked Having to pay extra for fishing each day.
No staff monitoring the amount of older teens racing through the fishing lakes and older teens inexperience with catching carp on the specimen lake and throwing them back in.

Liked Outdoor pool and splash pad was fantastic.
Pitch sizes were good
Communication of the company was good and let you know everything before you arrive.
Facilities were good and maintained

Disliked There was a mixup with the pitch when we arrived but they sorted it for us.
Although the places to eat are good, they are pricey.
I thought WiFi was free ( my fault for not looking into it) but you have to pay after three hours.
There were some very loud people after 11pm, which is fine and I know they were having fun. But we have an autistic son that needs to sleep, it would have been nice for a warden to drive round at that time and kindly ask people to lower music etc.

7.5 metre power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked The campsite was incredible, really neat, clean and tidy. The staff were really friendly and helpful, all the campers were lovely too. The facilities were great, the outdoor swimming pool and splash pad made it feel like we were abroad and it’s in a really good location to get to lots of lovely towns of Devon. Can’t wait to come back next year.

Power optional grass site

Liked I loved everything about this campsite. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - nothing was too much. Fantastic customer service, great shop selling everything you need and lovely food in the restaurant.
The children loved the pool and it was very safe with lifeguards on at all times.
Great facilities too with plenty of toilets and showers.
The site is fully accessible too.
I will definitely be returning.

Liked The actual campsite is really nice and very clean. The showers are very spacious and clean.

Disliked The entertainment is pretty poor and the club house doesn’t have enough space to accommodate for how big the campsite is. The food places on the campus are very expensive but the service is poor. We waited 40 mins for our food and it came out cold.

Liked Lovely inside and outside pool.
My son loved the fishing experience. Tree top adventures was great.
Loved the local food (cakes, sandwiches, dinners), which was sold in the on site shop.

Disliked Unfortunately, pitched up on an Ant's nest which wasn't nice at all.
Clubhouse was a bit small considering the size of the site.

Local attractions

Wandering just outside the site, the nearby clifftops have pretty walks; there are gentle bike rides around and about; plus beaches and waterways offering more sail-, paddle- and wave-powered action than you can shake a stick at. Take a bus (the stop’s only 100 metres away) to explore a bit further afield: this corner of Devon's jampacked with things to see and do, including castles, botanic gardens, zoos, aquariums, animal farms, model villages and adventure parks. It's a 10-minute drive from the site to spectacular Dawlish Warren, home to a sandy beach and a tiptop nature reserve.
