  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with modern facilities including a ladies' dressing room
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surf types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surf types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family hols. This well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include a spacious and sparkling clean his 'n' hers bathroom block with ample toilets, hot showers and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. There's wifi everywhere on site, and guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

Electric optional grass campervan pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Excellent location, close to local amenities and to the beach. Excellent customer service by owners who couldn't do more to welcome us. On site amenities very good. Overall a thoroughly good stay.

Disliked: Local roads, very narrow and not for the faint hearted to drive on

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Clean bathroom facilities and showers. The site is a 3 minute walk to pubs and restaurants and 10 minutes from the beach.

Disliked: Our pitch was slightly sloped. If we had known we would have brought blocks to put under the wheels.

From the manager: Hi and thanks for the great review. I wish you had asked about the chocks. Most pitches are very level but if not quite level we have sets of wedge chocks you can borrow for free in reception. See you next time. Stu.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Second time in Croyde, and second time at this site (and on the same pitch!). Stuart runs a cracking site here, and it’s been absolute pleasure to stay here again. A 5 minute walk into the village, and 15 minutes to the beach, where you can hook up onto the NT coast path. Superb site!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely facilities and a friendly curly haired man to welcome you to the site. Great location, walking distance to Padstow.

Disliked: Maybe the taps ran for too long? We don’t want to waste water and they could run for a shorter amount of time.

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
