  • Small farm site located in a secluded North Devon valley
  • A mile from Putsborough Beach and 1.5 miles from Croyde Bay
  • On-site toilets, showers and device charging in modern facilities
Fancy a grassy getaway in North Devon? Canvas and Coast at Combas Farm is half a mile outside Croyde, where guests can stock up at the local stores or get an eyeful of the thatched roofs and pastel-coloured cottages. (The route down to the village can be muddy at times, though, so guests are advised to bring a trusty pair of wellies.) If nippers aren't keen on the walk, perhaps the promise of a treat from the village ice-cream parlour, which makes lavish use of clotted cream, might just pique their interest? Croyde’s splendid sands also draw surfing folk from far and wide (though the sheltered waters of Croyde Bay are suitable for less gnarly beachgoers as well). Guests will likely appreciate Combas Farm’s sea views: Lundy Island can be glimpsed, as can the far-flung shores of Wales on clear days. Inspired by these coastal vistas? Croyde is located directly on the South West Coast Path, making this a great base for longer treks too. Camp cooks are well catered for over here: barbecues are allowed (off the ground to keep the grass scorch-free) and there’s a dedicated dishwashing area too. High-pressure showers are on hand to help keep your pitch a sand-free zone; spick and span toilets (which also have plugs for device charging) are located in a converted barn close by.

Local attractions

The three nearest beaches are Putsborough Sands, Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands (all three within 10 minutes' drive). Surf gear can be hired locally, but if you’re not a dab hand, fear not: several surf schools offer both private and group lessons to get you riding the waves. Rather get active on dry land? Tee off at the local golf course (10 minutes’ drive). Other North Devon coastal spots within easy reach include Ilfracombe (25 minutes): folk with an eye for Victorian charm should head for the historic Tunnel Beaches while undersea explorers might prefer to swing by the local aquarium. Budding palaeontologists young and old should head for Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (half an hour), where animatronic beasts and real-life critters are displayed side by side. Dinosaurs not for you? Make a ewe turn and head for rides, playgrounds and hilarious sheep races (plus a brewery and gin distillery for the elders) at The Big Sheep theme park (35 minutes).

Bell tent

Liked: Beautiful location, so secluded and peaceful! Great accommodation, didn’t need to take hardly anything with us. Best facilities I’ve seen on a campsite, so clean and well maintained. Great location for croyde/putsborough, both walking distance. Short drive to Woolacombe, saunton sands & Braunton. Staff so helpful and friendly, went the extra mile for us to organise champagne for my partners birthday. Thank you so much for a lovely stay, will definitely be returning next year :-)

Bell tent

Liked: Amazing location on a farm, close to the beaches and the amenities were great! The bell tent itself was so lovely and the hosts were fantastic.

Disliked: The only tiny negative thing was our tent was on a slight hill and we kept slipping down the bed!

Bell tent

Liked: Aesthetically pleasing, comfortable bed, warm duvet and blankets. Friendly site, good showers, toilets and washing up area. Close to croyde village just a short walk.

Disliked: Not worth the price, tent set up on a slope so wasn’t really suitable for our toddler. The worst tea bags ever, they are either the cheapest tea bags or the oldest, maybe both. Provide a kettle but nothing to heat it on?! No electric something we assumed would be available for the price. Plates, cups etc were not clean and all miss matched something like you’d find in student accommodation. Honestly for the price it lacks the little touches that would have made it special.

Bell tent

Liked: The location was amazing, so close to Croyde Bay. The toilet and shower facilities were great, always clean and enough of them that we never had to wait / queue. There was everything we needed in the Bell Tent including pots, pans, cutlery and many kitchen accessories and the BBQ / Firepit was provided.

Disliked: Unfortunately our last night at the campsite was disturbed, we were approached by someone in the tent next to us who had arrived the day before with a baby who asked us to turn our music down (which we weren't playing particularly loud as it was 10pm) we did turn it down immediately. Despite this we were approached again a few mins later but this time by the owner of the campsite who was extremely hostile with us. She claimed there had been multiple negative reviews recently due to noise, making out it was our fault. We were quite taken aback by this as we weren't being particularly noisy at all and our first few nights we were surrounded by other groups who were playing music late at night. All in all this ruined our last night at the campsite.
