  • Countryside park on 500 acres, 15 minutes' drive from Woolacombe
  • Woodland walks, nature trails, pool and riding centre on site
  • Two on-site bars and a takeaway; play park and miniature golf
Life’s little stresses getting you down? Want to stow yourself away for a countryside break where everything is close to your pitch? Come along to Combe Martin’s Stowford Farm Meadows in north Devon for a bit of de-stressing in a rural setting: the park is a mile from the main road down its own private drive and is a well-placed base from which to explore the best of Devon. Set among 500 acres of Devon woodland and meadows, Stowford Farm Meadows falls into the category of ‘very large’ sites – but fear not if your tastes tend towards the more solitary, as the park is divided into five separate fields and feels like several small sites rolled into one. The overall size means there are heaps of facilities and activities for you to try your hand at, from cantering around on horseback with the help of the on-site riding centre, to driving the kids crazy with your swish moves at the crazy golf. Looking for something a bit quieter? There are marked woodland walks into the wildlife-rich Bittadon valley, with nature trails starting and finishing on site. A heated indoor pool is available for a small extra charge; some days, there are also activities here like the aqua inflatable run and 'aqua paddlers' sessions for kids (both at an additional charge). For putting feet up or letting hair down, the site has two bars (with evening entertainment in peak season) and an on-site takeaway. For supplies, Stowford Farm Meadows has a licensed, well-stocked shop for your caravan and camping accessories. And finally? Even the dog will de-stress here, with a friendly welcome and a spacious dog-walking area on site…

What customers say

This large, well-maintained campsite offers spacious pitches and numerous on-site activities, including a pool and playgrounds, making it popular with families. Facilities are generally reported as clean, though some visitors noted dated areas and occasional issues with water pressure or temperature. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. While many appreciate the location for exploring North Devon, some found on-site food options pricey and limited. Noise from other guests and occasional overcrowding were noted.

Liked Grounds were well kept. On arriving we asked for our family to be pitched together which was sorted for us.

Disliked The bar areas were understaffed and tables not cleaned. There was a lack of glasses for drinks (usually pint glasses). The ladies toilets/shower blocks were not checked regularly and soap dispensers as were empty over the whole weekend. We needed to use the tumble driers (due to bad weather) only to find that there were no tokens available (or had been collected from the machines by the following morning) seemed like the attitude of some staff at their busiest week and at a time of bad weather was ‘it’s not our problem’

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Pitches were a good size, beer in the pub and food was great.
Lots of toilets and showers available.

Disliked Everything was a bit grotty, could have been cleaner in the toilets and tidier around the bins.
Bits of the park was broken.
Didnt feel overly safe for kids.
Needs more staff.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Stowford Farm Meadows and found it was good value for money. Check in was very efficient and staff that we met were friendly and helpful. Toilet and shower facilities were plentiful and we found them always to be clean with hot water. Also had sinks for dish washing.
Facilities onsite were good - children's play areas, swimming pool, mini golf and bar/restaurant entertainment area.
Site was well maintained and nicely spaced out.
Great location for visiting Woolacombe and Ilfracombe (15-20 minute drive to each).

Disliked Many of the arcade machines/change machines were jammed or not working.
Shop onsite had limited stock (although this was said to be as a delivery had not come in)
Bar service was not very efficient early evenings with long wait times when it wasn't that busy.
Chalkboard in the stable bar was still advertising the animal show from the week before which was not on during our stay.

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked Site was clean, easy to peg the tent into the ground. Shop staff were helpful and friendly. Lounge bar was nice

Disliked Reception manager was rude, showers needed more water pressure and bigger cubicles. Clothes and shoes got wet while showering. Drinks and food on site were expensive. Shop shut to early and opened late. Chip shop was shut most of the time. All tent pitches were on a slant.no cider on tap at any of the drinking venues. Restaurant not big enough to cater for the amount of people on site. People had to wait 1.5 hours for meals. No phone signal or WiFi on site. Waste bins not emptied enough or signposted

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location is good.

Disliked Unfortunately found this campsite very noisy at night with no warden to be seen at night time. We as a family who camp lots are very used to the general noise rules to be quiet after 10pm but there didn’t seem to be this rule in place or anyone monitoring noise levels at the camp site. We have young children who thankfully are pretty good at sleeping but as adults trying to enjoy the evening, to have to listen to kids (and adults) play fighting and playing football way past 11pm was not our ideal for a nice relaxing evening. To add to this we were pretty close to some season pitch holders in their caravan who were smoking marijuana pretty much 24/7. The smell was incredibly strong and with young children around and myself being 25 weeks pregnant it was very unpleasant.
If there had been someone patrolling the site this would have definitely been smelt by them. We didn’t feel comfortable complaining at the times as we’re worried about the backlash this may have caused from these season campers.
Facilities weren’t very clean.
Entertainment was honestly awful. Same every night with the games played by the hosts and the younger guy was so unprofessional. He seemed to like playing up to and joking with the older children while often just ignoring the younger ones. The games played in the early evening often felt unsafe for the smaller children or unattainable for them. One evening he played a game where they had to create a park with their bodies. This group of children who were no older than 7 had no guidance from him and instead of helping he just stared at them and said “well I don’t know what’s going on here, I’ll give you more time” So then myself and another parent jumped in to help the kids so they didn’t feel humiliated. I wish I could remember the guys name because he seriously needed more training!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked N/A

Disliked I was extremely disappointed with my recent stay at Stowford Farm Meadows. Having visited the site as a child over 20 years ago, when my parents had a seasonal pitch for their touring caravan, I returned with a genuine sense of nostalgia and was therefore particularly saddened by my experience.
There were several issues during our stay. The showers were cold and did not provide adequate hot water, while the bath taps were also cold. In contrast, the sinks produced excessively hot water, despite stickers warning guests about the temperature.

Our tent pitch was also situated on a hill, which made it far from suitable or comfortable. I appreciate that camping pitches can vary, but this was not what I reasonably expected from the site.

I also paid £18.99 for the internet package, which did not work at all. I spent more than six hours in total on hold with VFast customer service trying to resolve the problem, without any satisfactory outcome.

Perhaps most concerning of all, we visibly saw rats running around the campsite. This was extremely unpleasant and raised serious concerns about hygiene and the standard of the site. I have photographs and video evidence of this.

I raised these issues directly with the site during our stay and was told that they would be addressed. However, I was disappointed that I wasn't even asked which field or pitch we were staying on, which gave me little confidence that anything would actually be done.

Ultimately, the combination of these issues meant that we no longer felt comfortable continuing our stay and checked out one day early.

Overall, I found the standard of the facilities and service to be significantly below what I expected. The experience was particularly disappointing given my fond memories of visiting Stowford Farm Meadows as a child. I genuinely hoped to return to a site that held such positive memories, but unfortunately this stay has left me feeling very let down.

I hope the site takes these concerns seriously, particularly the issues with hot water, the non-functioning internet service and the presence of rats, and takes appropriate steps to address them.
