Giddy Farm: Visitor image of tents and view

General

  • Dog-friendly camping in bell tents with gorgeous North Devon views
  • South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail within 10 minutes’ drive
  • Quiet, dark-skies site near a shop and pub; easy access to the beach

How about a spot of low-key, chilled bell-tent camping combined with spectacular North Devon views? If you’d like to get off grid and enjoy dark skies star-gazing too, then Giddy Farm is the spot for you – even more so if you like a quiet life, as there is no loud music allowed here at any time.

Walkers and cyclists, if you’re taking on the South West Coast Path or the Tarka Trail, both are within a 10-minute drive. If you’re holidaying with the kids, then this is a smashing departure point for discovering spectacular beaches like Woolacombe (20 minutes’ drive) and Combe Martin (five minutes), or treating them to animal encounters at Exmoor Zoo (15 minutes).

Back at base camp, spacious bell tents come equipped with beds that are configured according to your needs, and extra air beds can be added for kids (you’ll need to bring your own bedding though). Thoughtful extras include a barbecue and firepit (buy firewood on site), plus somewhere to sit outside, as well as shared compost loos, hot showers and a washing-up station.

Source essentials at the community shop in Berrynarbor (five minutes), where there’s also a pub. Combe Martin (10 minutes) has more choice of stores and restaurants, while local supermarkets can be reached within 10 minutes.

Your dogs get to come away with you too, but they must be kept under control as there is livestock in the surrounding fields.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Beautiful setting away from it all. Lovely welcome from Gina & Joe with a tractor ride that my kids loved! Super clean facilities, powerful shower with hot water a plenty. A really lovely place to unwind after a day of exploring the local beaches (Saunton Sands was voted top for us) Good to have a bench, firepit and BBQ included with the pitch. Thank you Giddy Fram for a wonderful week 🤩 love the Rimmers x

Wonderful weekend stay with the added bonus of catching a glimpse of the meteor shower.

Lovely location and love the 'back to basics' relaxed feel where it's nice to escape the modern world.
Had a nightmare in terms of our car breaking down whilst visiting the beach in Woolacombe and our hosts couldn't have been more genuinely helpful if they tried.

From offering us a lift back to camp to firewood to keep us warm and a charging lead to enable us to charge our phones after we had left ours behind.
Literally cannot thank them enough in making our first year anniversary the fabulous getaway that it was.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we can't wait to return and next time we'll be bringing Dexter as we know he'll love it as much as we did 🐶

A lovel quiet location, immersed in countryside. The facilities were excellent and well thought out - particularly the generously hot shower. The host were friendly and engaging, and interested in the welfare of their guests. The tent itself was very comfortable and in very good condition. All in all I would highly recommend Staying at Giddy Farm.

Clean facilities, the bbq and fire pit. Star gazing.

    Disliked:

    1. The fussy and rigid rules- whereby friends not staying at the property are not allowed to join us for a barbecue. Was informed nicely only on the second night by both owners separately and our friends were allowed to stay for dinner but was kicked out as we are winding down at the fire pit.
    2. We were shocked to learn that they allowed another tent to be installed for a family of 5 next to us. My husband had inquired whether that was allowed before our arrival so our friends can be on the same site with us.
    Our experience was spoiled sadly..

From the manager...

It is unfortunate that our site rules spoiled your stay.
In our terms and conditions it states visitors are not allowed on site. It is a very small site and our facilities would not cope if everyone invited their friends over. You were not allowed to invite guests on to the site so they were asked to leave.
It also states that other than immediate family group bookings are not allowed. Your husband asked before booking if 6 of you could stay in one tent and I said this would not be possible.
The adjacent family booked and paid for a 5 man tent which was how many of them stayed. I gave them a small pop up tent to use as extra storage. They did not bring extra guests on to the site.
It is the customers responsibilty to read the site details, pitch size and terms and conditions before booking. If you would like to holiday with your friends then you would need to book and pay for everybody in your party and then your experience will not be spoiled.

The whole setup was great, Joe kindly drove the tractor to the car park to unload our luggage and take back to the car on our return. The location is perfect just a short drive to Coombe martin.
The facilities were perfect for outdoor living, heated power shower, toilet and sink for washing up. Limited number of guests to facilities.
Tents were large enough and beds were very comfortable.
Outside had a great bbq setup a fire pit and table and chairs.

Toilet & powerful shower very clean, they are maintained and clean regularly
Private picnic benches for each tent
    Tent were spacious & clean

    Disliked:

    The mattress/mat was very thin.
Grass being cut shorter around the site would help in the morning and evenings as footwear and trousers got very wet
Being able to park near your yurt would be a bonus

From the manager...

I hope you enjoyed your stay even though you found your futon mattress thin. We decided to keep the field vehicle free to keep it safe for all our guests and also to protect our resident wildlife. I will make sure it is stated more clearly in future that you can't park by your tent. We are always happy to help with your luggage. As the camp site is a farm field we dont cut all the grass short but we do try to keep the immediate area in front of the tents shorter. That is certainly something we can look to improve on. Thanks so much for booking with us I hope you will come again

Local attractions

Gather up your beach gear and fix your eyes on the coast… with kayak hire at Combe Martin (10 minutes’ drive) and some super surf and dunes at Woolacombe (20 minutes), watersports, beach strolls or longer rambles over the South West Coast Path (10 minutes) are not far away. Note, there are lots of steps at Broadsands beach (10 minutes) but there’s a big payoff, with both rockpools and high-quality sand at the end.

Coasteering is the coastal activity of choice in Watermouth (10 minutes), with the hamlet’s unusual theme-park-in-a-castle serving thrills back on dry land. Ilfracombe (15 minutes) has another splendid combo of land-based and water-based activities, from shopping and golf to beach days and Lundy boat trips.

So, is this area mostly about the coast? Not at all. The Tarka Trail (10 minutes) will take you through Exmoor and North Devon landscapes or you could take yourself on a mini historical tour of the National Trust’s Arlington Court (15 minutes) and the Marwood Hill Gardens (15 minutes).

For places that are likely to be a hit with the kids, head for Exmoor Zoo (15 minutes) or the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (10 minutes).
