  • Peaceful site with sea views a five-minute drive from Westward Ho!
  • South West Coast Path 20 minutes’ walk; Bideford 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; children’s playground; well-stocked farm shop
Picture the scene: you step out of your accommodation and are greeted by expansive sea views stretching all the way to Lundy Island. Not a bad holiday scenario, right? Well, hold that thought and head to Westacott Farm Camping, a peaceful site on the coast of North Devon. The coast is not just a distant mirage here: you’re only about 20 minutes’ walk from the South West Coast Path, and from there you can scramble down to Peppercombe Beach, a long stretch of shingle. If you have your dog with you (a welcome guest, but do keep it on a lead at all times while on site), this is the place to take it for a walk. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of seals and dolphins; if not, you should still see plenty of colourful butterflies and wildflowers. If you prefer sand to pebbles, head to Westward Ho! Beach (15 minutes’ drive). There will be more people here, but there are also more services, including lifeguards, public toilets and watersports equipment rentals – from paddleboards to surfs; most places also run lessons for beginners. After a long day at the seaside, leave the kids in the playground and start gathering dinner provisions. The on-site farm shop stocks local sausages, burgers, bacon, free-range eggs and a small range of groceries – in short, all you need to knock up a simple meal. For anything else, it’s a short drive to the supermarkets (five minutes across the A39); better still, get someone else to do the cooking and visit the nearest pub (five minutes or a leisurely half-hour walk) in Abbotsham.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers a peaceful stay with excellent, spotlessly clean facilities, including modern shower blocks with enjoyable touches like music. Visitors praise the stunning sea views, spacious pitches, and the friendly, helpful owners. Its location is ideal for exploring the coast path and local attractions. Some guests noted the access lanes can be narrow, and a few mentioned minor issues with charging points or occasional noise from other campers, but overall, the site is highly recommended for its value and relaxed atmosphere.

Liked Toilet block with music was a brilliant idea. It was very spacious, not crowded, and offered a lovely view of the meadow and Atlantic site. It was also very peaceful.

Disliked I think there was a sign about the water pressure at the main toilet block, but it probably needs to be looked at. 🔧👨‍🔧

From the manager: Thank you for the lovely review of your stay with us this month and I'm glad you all enjoyed it.

I'm afraid that during May half term when we are full, everyone is using the facilities at the same time which affects the pressure, but we will look at it again to see if there is anything we can do other than reducing our number of pitches during busy times.

We would love to welcome you back again when in the area.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice layout, flat pitch for the tent and plenty of space. Great fire pit rental system and coffee and jacket potato hut on site was a nice touch as well. Amazing views and sunset over Lundy island was beautiful

Disliked The water pressure in the shower was poor but overall the facilities were clean and well maintained . Children playing outside the tents wasn’t appreciated since there was a designated kids play area a short distance away.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: That you for a lovely review of your stay with us. I'm sorry you felt the water pressure was poor, unfortunately this happens at times when we are full and everyone is using the facilities to draw water at the same time.

I'm afraid the designated play area isn't always the right place for children to play especially when the play area is in a different field and parents aren't able to keep an eye on them. In this day and age I'm not sure that I would want any child out of sight on a campsite amongst strangers.

Id recommend and we will be back

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the views, big fields with lots of available spots. We have a nervous dog who reacts to sound but he heard none of the other campers as we were able to park far away from others. Lovely views of the sea, absolutely wonderful to wake up to. Really clean facilities and everywhere felt safe at all times. Coffee and tea available in the mornings, food truck comes by in the evening.

Liked A really friendly campsite. Plenty of pitches. Clean toilet/showers. Showers hot and good power. Lovely food van visiting at weekends. Friendly staff. Great view of the sea in the distance from the higher fields.

Disliked The locks on the portacabin toilets are a bit difficult to lock/unlock.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Washing facilities were good. Electric hook up is always a plus. Great service! Reasonably priced.

Disliked Was very exposed to the wind. I know it's close to the coast. Higher fencing or areas for shelter for tents. Not anywhere near public transport. Park swings and equipment needed cleaning.

From the manager: Many thanks for the review of your stay with us.
Unfortunately we can't control the direction of the wind.....you were against the hedge which would shelter you from the south westerly winds, which, as you can see from our tree at the entrance, is the predominant direction. I'm not sure the majority of our campers would welcome higher hedges as they welcome the beautiful view of the coastline. We are a 20 minute walk from public transport in Abbotsham. Sorry you felt our park needed cleaning, we'll get it sorted, but glad to hear you welcomed other parts of our campsite.

Local attractions

Whether the kids are into fun attractions or animals, The BIG Sheep (five minutes’ drive) will deliver. As well as bottle-feeding lambs and handling fluffy chicks, they can ride a swan pedalo on the lake or take the miniature train through the grounds; older kids might prefer the thrills of the roller coaster. From Bideford (10 minutes), a boat sails along the River Torridge and onwards to Lundy Island, whose rugged cliffs shelter puffins and other seabirds. On your return, check out the riverfront statue dedicated to Tarka the Otter, then cross the Old Bideford Bridge to the Bideford Railway Heritage Centre. Themed areas at RHS Garden Rosemoor (25 minutes), in Torrington, include the vibrant Rose and Hot gardens, and the Croquet Lawn, lined with plants from the Mediterranean and the southern hemisphere. Stay in Torrington to visit the Dartington Crystal factory and watch glass-blowers at work.
