  • Laidback site near the Devon coast welcoming families and dogs
  • 15 minutes' drive from Westward Ho! surfing beach
  • Take a boat trip, spot seals and dive off Lundy Island
Clifftop walks and river trips, rockpooling and stargazing, surfing beaches and the simple pleasure of cooking up a feast with friends around a firepit… There aren't too many spots where you can tick all those boxes, but it's all there at Treyhill Farm. This laidback, privately-run site is in the hills of North Devon, surrounded by stunning countryside. Come here to slow down and spend some quality time outdoors, whether you're on your own or with your family, other half or a small group – dogs are also very welcome too. A peaceful base this is, with spacious pitches and a friendly vibe. And one more plus: there's a dog-friendly pub within five minutes' drive of the site for a beer or two. The Treyhill Farm team care about the details: flowers and herbs around the grounds add scent and colour; fresh tea towels are in the washing-up station; secure bike storage is provided for cyclists. Across the cobbled courtyard, the shared bathroom is bright, clean and cosy, kitted out with a big hot shower and an armchair. You want to feast alfresco, smelling the salty tang on the breeze mingle with the woodsmoke as you sip a glass of wine? Go ahead, the folks at the farm will supply you with pots, pans, firewood and fire-starting kits… plus recipes if you need some tips on firepit cuisine. And a corkscrew.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The warm and generous welcome to a very pretty little site. I loved the rustic farm setting with useful facilities. As well as the swallows sharing the wood store. The covered shared area was also really handy for those little showers.

Liked Absolutely charming little campsite. Be prepared to find yourself dreaming of having your own slice of paradise!
Loved this site - from the grape vine covered veranda, to the chickens, ducks, allotment and pine trees. The lovely surprise of 2 peahens strolling around and the owners delightful dogs. Facilities are lovely - clean and stylish toilets and showers with back up showers meaning 3 showers and 2 toilets available. Kitchen area with kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, sugar, cups, plates etc. Its a cozy site and not suitable for van camping I don't think, the owner has 3 Bell tents in place and room for a few extra. Great location for Bideford and Westward ho, only about 15 to 20 minutes away.
We were travelling as a family with 2 children. Was perfect.

Orchard Beauty bell tent

Liked Quiet intimate campsite
Views
Personal touch to the communal areas
Owner very friendly and helpful
The ducks and peacocks in the allotment
The chickens
The random herd of sheep that appeared and then disappeared
Selection of reading material
Was just a really nice campsite and the glamping tent we stayed in was lovely, hope to stay again.

Disliked Didn't bother me but you can hear the road which might not be everyone's cup of tea
Fouton mattress a little on the firm side my mum said
Slight queue for the toilets
But overall nothing really

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very peaceful, quiet, pretty. If your after a site which offers you a relaxing stay this is your place. Cars are not allowed on the field, this was lovely as it made it safe for children and quiet (be aware that you have to carry your things from the car park a short distance). Kettle, good toilets and showers. We walked down to the local pub, took about 25 minutes, food was tasty, highly recommend.

Disliked Nothing!

Liked Wonderful host and great campsite with lots of personal touches. The ducks and chickens were great company and the small sore meant we made great friend with all our neighbours. The bathrooms, shower and toilets were also really well set up, spotlessly clean and we had an amazing stay. Will definitely visit again, thanks Jess x

Local attractions

Between the North Devon National Landscape and the Hartland Heritage Coast, this is true walking country. From Instow (10 minutes' drive), join the Tarka Trail, a wildlife-packed route inspired by the otter's journey in Henry Williamson's novel. Follow it to Westward Ho! (15 minutes from the site) and cool off in the sea; the farm owners also suggest surfers head here, instead of busier beaches further north. You can take lessons in the art of not falling off various watercraft at the Ultimate Adventure Centre in Bideford (15 minutes), while for further thrills, kayaking, laser tag and assault courses are also on the menu. For gentler times on water, head to the old riverside town of Appledore (15 minutes) for a boat cruise. If you fancy frying a fish over that firepit, choose between the Torridge and Taw rivers, as well as the big briny. Bideford is a popular launch point for sea fishing and for trips to Lundy Island: this wild outcrop in the Atlantic attracts all kinds of adventurers from seal spotters to wreck divers and has spectacular sunsets to round it all off.
