Owl Valley Glamping: Bell tent

General

  • Small peaceful site on a private nature reserve in north Devon
  • Two miles from Bideford and within 10 minutes of award-winning beaches
  • Within easy reach of the Tarka Trail

Want to get away from the chaos of modern life without sacrificing too many of your creature comforts? At Owl Valley Glamping, a peaceful site less than two miles from the town of Bideford in north Devon, you get the best of both worlds: no internet, no electricity – just somewhere comfy to spend your break. What a hoot.

Owl Valley is paradise for walkers, nature spotters and sand fans: the site is a 10-minute drive from the beach at Westward Ho! and under an hour from the north Devon coast. The 32-mile traffic-free Tarka Trail for walkers and cyclists is within easy reach, passing through nearby Bideford, and there are plenty of walks along the South West Coast Path too.

Back on site, explore the private nature reserve that you’ll be calling home during your stay: wander through the woodlands, sit on the banks of the pond or stream and, at all times, keep your eyes peeled for wildflowers, butterflies, woodland birds and the occasional deer.

When it's time for dinner, fire up your barbecue or get that campfire going – you can pick up supplies and essentials in Bideford, or just skip cooking altogether and have a bite at one of the quayside town’s restaurants.

Don’t expect to be bingeing Netflix in the evenings – instead, kick back and turn your gaze to the stars, unwinding with the sounds of owls’ hooting and the stream running through the site playing in your ears.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

We liked everything about the cabin at owl valley. Very friendly owners who made us feel welcome and drove our belongings down to the cabin for us at the beginning and then back to our car at the end of our stay. The lodge was lovely and cosy and really warm. The sounds of the stream is really relaxing and the whole site is beautiful. A perfect getaway to retreat for a while and relax. We’ll be back, definitely. Thank you for creating a lovely space.

    What’s not to like.
We all very much felt at home, the stream was babbling soothing notes carried on the air, the daily visit of a robin greeting us good day, wood smoke chugging from the chimney stack, the cabin was warm and inviting, hot tubbing alfresco in the crisp air,
No technology to interrupt our stay, a real treat.
The wooded walks, twists and turns really gave the brain a chance to turn off and enjoy the delicious details that one often misses in the busy daily grind of that thing called life, if you are looking for a beautiful spot that is unspoiled and you are someone who loves nature, peace and quiet then this is the place for you.
Our son’s are tech mad.. but they did not miss it for one minute, the whole family was calm and had chance to connect with each other and nature.. for me I was in peaceful heaven.

Absolutely amazing holiday!! We booked the hut here to get a breakaway from everything, and it didn't disappoint! You are surrounded by nature, free from noise and interference, but at the same time you are a few minutes drive from a supermarket/restaurants/towns, should you need anything. The accommodation itself is glorious, with everything you need for that 'back to nature' glamping feel! You can really tell this place is run with love, as everything there is designed to make you feel at home. The owners and their family were lovely and attentive and made us feel very welcome, especially when it came to getting our hot tub ready for us every day! Will 100% book again

There was everything we needed and it was a very peaceful place . If you are coming to this place with older children then Steve’s Shack is a definite hit as there are board games and a pool table that my children spent a lot of time at . Lots to explore and lighting the campfires at night were very fun .

We had a wonderful few days at Owl Valley. We are a family of 4 and stayed in the Tawny Owl bell tent which is ideally situated in a very peaceful part of the valley and close to ‘Steve’s Shack’ where the children would go and have fun with the games and meet new friends.

Chris and Lesley and family are amazing hosts, very considerate and helpful without encroaching on your break. We had some lovely eggs from their chickens too!

The facilities are clean, comfortable and they have thought of everything in the kitchen. We toasted marshmallows on the fire pit and cooked on the bbq and enjoyed the starry skies!

The valley is very tranquil and we really enjoyed exploring the grounds and all the fun and nature it brought.

Thank you for a wonderful experience, we would love to return again soon!

Local attractions

If you haven’t had enough of walking from your excursions on the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail, never fear: Owl Valley is 40 minutes’ drive from Exmoor National Park, where there are plenty of trails and long-distance routes. There’s also canoeing, sea kayaking, fishing, horse riding and mountain biking to get stuck into, and the less active can pay a visit to Dunster Castle, take a trip on the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway funicular or the West Somerset Railway steam train, or bring the kids to Exmoor Zoo or Watermouth Castle Theme Park.

For those who like living at least part of their life on the water, there’s loads to do close to Owl Valley. Have a go at kayaking, body boarding, surfing and rafting in Bideford, or climb aboard a boat in Ilfracombe to spy out dolphins, seals and porpoises on sea safari.

A visit to Clovelly is a must – the stunning seaside village, 20 minutes from Owl Valley, has oodles of character. It’s also entirely traffic free, so you can wander the cobbled streets sharing the roads with donkeys and human-powered sledges, and looking out over Bideford bay.
