  • Peaceful sheltered wild meadow site 400 metres from Porthilly beach
  • A five-minute walk to the Camel Estuary beach; 15 minutes from Rock
  • Grass pitches within walking distance of Rock’s shops and restaurants
You may know Cornwall for its natural scenery or sandy hotspots… but what about the quieter alcoves? At Porthilly Beach Pop-Up Camping, you’ll be in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty five minutes’ walk away from Porthilly beach on the Camel Estuary – nicely tucked away from the busier crowds in a small, sheltered and rather peaceful meadow. This is quite a comfy stay – on site, there’s drinking water from a tap (watersports on the estuary may very well end up being thirsty work) and portable toilets are provided. Guests also have access to basic hot showers and toilet facilities at the caravan site a couple of minutes’ walk away (please note that this is a nature walk and not suitable for wheelchair access). Once you’re nicely rinsed off, there’s a short footpath close by the site that leads the way across grassy fields into a splendid selection of local shops, including a delicatessen, café, small food shop, butchers, bakery and fish and chips shop. Of course, the site is also deliciously close to neighbouring towns like Rock, 15 minutes’ walk away from Porthilly beach and quite the watersports centre, with windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and rowing all specialities on the relatively calm waters of the estuary. If you fancy keeping your feet on solid ground instead, you may want to walk a section of the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ walk) for dreamy coastline views. Then, there’s the harbour town of Padstow (35 minutes’ drive), a mecca for all things foodie, with anything from fine dining spots to fish and chips munched on the quayside. You can hop on the foot ferry at Rock to explore this busy little fishing town, and stock up on calories too.

Meadow 2 non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Love the location. It was in a small quiet village with not a lot in it but it was only a couple minutes walk to the beach and easy drive to local designations. Walkable distance to the ferry or water taxi to get across to Padstow as well. Really recommend, perfect for us and what we needed and had the facilities we needed plus bonus point for the cheap price and being able to use the hot showers in the caravan site. (Make sure you take 50p coins for them which last 5minuted each). We went to Bodmin jail, Eden project, hang loose adventures, Padstow, Newquay, Crazy golf, Newquay zoo, shipwreck museum, fistral beach and St Austell

Disliked: No sea view which I thought there was but that’s okay can’t blame the trees. We went off peak so bathroom and bins were only done once a week so they got a bit smelly and no toilet roll after day 3 so deffo take your own. The community that was there all put in 1 roll each which lasted for us all which was great! Small field but as it only held 12 pitches each pitch was massive! If you are going during peak with family and planning on being at the site lots just be aware there isn’t lots of room for little people to run around while being aware of people’s space and privacy if multiple families are there but if your planning on doing lots of trips out then it’s plenty. It was tricky to find the field but we got to thé caravan site very easily and just phoned Luke who gave us fantastic directions.

Liked: Great position, lovely and quiet, relatively flat

Disliked: No signage to find site (admittedly forgot sent instructions!!). Even a small A4 note would have helped. No obvious place for water disposal

Meadow 2 non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Quiet and peaceful - no frills but had everything we needed for car camping! Close to Rock and ferry to Padstow. Fee’s bakery and Bluntrock Brewery in Rock were also within walking distance, and these were lovely so check them out!

Disliked: Washing up facilities would have been useful but also understand the no frills nature of the site!

Meadow 2 non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Handy location. Nice and quiet. Good to have use of showers on caravan site. Liked having use of picnic tables.

Disliked: Not much instruction prior to arrival about location and not easy to find. No guidance on using showers on other caravan site. Compared to what is on offer on other sites, think price is quite high.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay! If you check your junk mail folder, you will find an email detailing arrival instructions, along with a guide highlighting where to visit locally and how to use the showers. Apologies, sometimes our emails do not arrive in our guests inbox.

Meadow 2 non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Beautiful nature area with the pond, lights and picnic tables. Loved the attention to detail but keeping it nature-based such as the signs in slate. Really friendly and very accommodating family when we turned up with Gig on tow! If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful, friendly, spacious, family run site with a wild camping feel to it then Porthilly Meadow is perfect! Portaloos were very clean & the showers were powerful, clean and warm. Loved the nature area and pond.
