General

  • Site with stunning Atlantic Ocean, countryside and sunset views
  • A 15-minute drive from Bude, Summerleaze beach and Tamar Lakes
  • Horse riding, rock climbing, abseiling, fishing and golfing nearby

Fittingly, considering its name, northern Cornwall site Atlantic Horizons has some rather stunning ocean views that are well worth swooning over.

But whether you’ll have much time to sit and stare into the distance while at this park is questionable – a 15-minute drive from the surfing shores of Bude, it’s far too close to some of the region’s top sights for you to risk having a rest and missing out on the adventures.

Activities like cycling, horse riding, rock climbing, abseiling, fishing and golfing are all close by: just ask on site for more details on where and how to have a go at these, then follow up with grub at local establishments including some top tearooms and a 13th-century pub (10 minutes’ drive). Eager to roam? Hiking paths are accessible from the park on foot, with many public trails going through woodland and meadows as well as across the cliffs of the South West Coast Path.

Back on base, the facilities at Atlantic Horizons (which aims to be as eco-friendly as possible with a focus on leaving a minimal carbon footprint) include multi-gender shower room and washroom facilities. Picnic tables are scattered across the grounds and there’s a cold-water tap, an open-air heated shower and an outdoor sink for cleaning cutlery and dishes.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Don’t bother with a bel tent... take you’re own14/09/2020

Never stayed in a bell tent... was cool! But they don’t have an iner layer.... so very cold. This campsite is lovely, small so no shop but quiet and a hot shower so that’s great. Clean and tidy. Fully fenced so I had no worries of my dog wandering too far.

    Disliked:

Equipment provided is extremely basic... only storage was two wooden crates with the ‘equipment’ in... no little shelves or even little bedside drawers so everything in bags and storage boxes. Not even chair or a small table in the tent. The bed was really only a camp bed. I was expecting a proper bed and a little stove on a table as a minimum... glad I bought lots of extras! But really would have preferred my own tent! And my little stove and some warmth!

From the manager...

Good afternoon and many thanks for your feedback. Sorry if you have felt that your experience was not up to your expectations and we will consider everything that you have said.

The glamping experience is designed to give customers the feeling of camping but with a little more comfort. Of course these tents can only cater for a certain number of furnishing before the space becomes too overwhelmingly small and as much as we would to offer a wood burning stove, this is currently not within our insurance policy.

Please do get in contact if you would like to discuss the issues with your stay further.

Excellent site, we wanted the great bits of camping but made a little easier as travelling with an 18month old. The yurt was fantastic, great eco facilities and the option of nice shower and toilets too in the main block. Great customer service both through email to arrange and also while there. Thanks for a great stay!

Location, view, facilities Although I would have liked a welly hook to help me get my muddy wellies off before entering the indoor facilities. Our tent was too small to dress in so with 2 children we did it in the shower room. However we always tried to remove our wellies as it was very muddy and those in the Glamping accommodation didn’t have this issue.

This place was wonderful. We rented an unfurnished yurt and it had lovely sunset views over the sea. Very eco-friendly with just the essentials, our own eco toilet and shower but with hot water. The site owners were very friendly and kept the amenities very clean. They've put extra things in place to prevent the spread of Covid. Loved the little shack shop with eggs and kindling to buy.

    Disliked:

I'd have liked a welcome note just to inform us ofthings around the site like where our eco toilet was and the shack shop and maybe some local things to see/do.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your feedback Benice. We are pleased that you and the dogs had a great stay and appreciate all the comments. We have been sending out a new digital guide to all our customers to help them familiarise themselves with the site and local activities, maybe this did not arrive in your email account prior to your arrival. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Local attractions

So which expeditions should you choose first? Well, chances to try out all sorts of watersports are available nearby, including surfing and coasteering at Bude (15 minutes) and Summerleaze beaches (half an hour’s drive), or you could learn to kayak, canoe, paddleboard, sail or windsurf at the Tamar Lakes (15 minutes).

Atlantic Horizons is also about the same distance from pretty Sandymouth bay and a trio of top moors – Bodmin, Exmoor and Dartmoor – are within an hour’s drive for walks in the wilderness.

If the kids aren’t into muddy strolls but are keen on adrenaline-spiking activities, take them to The Milky Way Adventure Park (15 minutes) for a whirl on the Cosmic Typhoon rollercoaster, then let their heart rate return to normal during restful times with the animals at the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre (30 minutes).

The BIG Sheep, a farm-themed amusement park (25 minutes), is also a winner with the miniature humans, and you pretty much can't go wrong with a session on the wide sands of Crooklets and Westward Ho! beaches (20 and 25 minutes, respectively) during sunnier days.

  • Tintagel Castle (21.1 miles)
