The Laurels Holiday Park: Bell Tent

General

  • Manicured pitches surrounded by greenery
  • Spotless amenities including power showers and wetsuit/drying area
  • Playground and dog-walking area

Small but perfectly formed, The Laurels Holiday Park offers manicured grassy pitches surrounded by pretty greenery and flowers to give guests a bit of extra privacy.

The essential facilities at this Cornwall site, two miles from Wadebridge, are impeccably maintained: there’s free hot water in the washing-up area and power showers, plus hairdryers, a washing machine and freezing for ice packs. There’s even a special area for washing and drying wetsuits – it gets regular use given the excellent surfing and watersports nearby…

Barbecues and campfires are a fab idea in a place like this, and the folk on site have made such things simple: there are firepits available to hire (only a limited number though, so booking's essential) and there's a stock of logs, kindling, firelighters and flo gas on sale too.

Pint-sized visitors can mess about on the boat in the playground, which is well-equipped with climbing frames, swings and a large trampoline, plus plenty of space for ball games. The site is also Fido-friendly, with a dedicated area for dog walking.

Very clean facilities, pitches where in great condition couldn't fault the place. One of the nicest campsites we've stayed at before. Would highly recommend staying here, an hour to St Ives by car, half an hour to Fistral Beach. Also biked the camel trail to Padstow for the day, this was however all down hill on the way and coming back we wish we'd ordered a taxi as this wasn't easy.

Thanks Adam! Great to hear you made the most of our fantastic location and conquered the hills back to us from the Camel Trail!
Hope we can welcome you back...

The site, in general, is very well maintained and is very clean. The shower/toilet block was great. Staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay here. The site was quite quiet, no rowdy guests whilst we were there, just people enjoying a break.

    Disliked:

The only thing I didn't like, and it's no fault of the campsite really, is the proximity to the road. The A39 is quite busy with cars travelling most of the morning/evening, so the noise from the cars is quite loud really. I do live in a very quiet neighbourhood, so perhaps it's me being petty!

From the manager...

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for the great review - we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and found everything on the campsite itself spot on!
The road noise does take some getting used to especially if you live in a quiet area at home.
Hope we can welcome you again!

Thanks Nick - what a fantastic review! We had a shop for a few years but it didn't work as Tesco and Aldi are so close and we ended up with a lot of wastage.
Really hope to see you both again and see the van finished!

Hi Debbie,
Sorry you found the road disturbed you - it is busy especially in this season - sometimes you may need to search a campsites exact location to avoid picking one directly next to a main A road to avoid disappointment. We are glad everything that we can control was satisfactory.

Really liked the easy check in. We didn’t actually meet Jo and Sarah but they sent us a message to check we were okay. Good facilities, very clean. The site is excellently situated for the buses and walks. We enjoyed the local pub!

    Disliked:

Pleased we weren’t there at a busy time as we were queuing for showers. There are only two for women and ditto for men.
I realise we’re all trying to keep ventilated but the facilities were very cold with all windows and doors open.

From the manager...

Hi Pam,
Thanks for the great review! We are pleased you found us to be in a great location for getting out and about.
Regarding the showers it must just have been very bad timing that you had to queue for a shower as there was hardly anyone on site. We also have the unisex single toilet and shower room at the end of the block with large electric shower (maybe you missed this?)
We hope you would return and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Local attractions

The Laurels is three miles from the riverside market town of Wadebridge (the bus stops right outside the site), where guests will find good eating and shopping.

A little further up the road (six miles or so) is Padstow, which has TV chef Rick Stein’s famously fabulous seafood restaurants and cookery school as well as some fine surfing beaches. Boardmasters can also find ripping fun at Polzeath (20 minutes' drive), and the world-famous waves of Newquay are only 15 miles away.

Fans of the Doc Martin TV series should visit the fishing village of Port Isaac (25 minutes) to see the doc’s cottage and many other pretty 'Portwenn' locations.

This being Cornwall, there are oodles of interesting things to see and do – too many to list here, but to start you off: it’s only a 35-minute drive to the legendary Tintagel Castle, half an hour to the fascinating biospheres of the Eden Project, or 35 minutes to the fishing village of Boscastle.

Guests could also make a day trip to Lands End (perhaps combined with a walk around the attractive harbour town of Penzance), to the National Maritime Museum and dockyards at Falmouth, or to St. Ives, to explore the colourful harbour and art deco splendour of the Tate Gallery.

Must see

  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (2.5 miles)
  • Rock Beach (3.5 miles)
  • Newquay Zoo (10.7 miles)

  • Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps (6.7 miles)
