Electric gravel pitch

General

  • Manicured pitches surrounded by greenery
  • Spotless amenities including power showers and wetsuit/drying area
  • Playground and dog-walking area

Small but perfectly formed, The Laurels Holiday Park offers manicured grassy pitches surrounded by pretty greenery and flowers to give guests a bit of extra privacy.

The essential facilities at this Cornwall site, two miles from Wadebridge, are impeccably maintained: there’s free hot water in the washing up area and power showers, plus hairdryers, a laundry with tumble dryer and free ironing kit, and a shared fridge and freezer. There’s even a special area for washing and drying wetsuits – it gets regular use given the excellent surfing and watersports nearby…

Barbecues and campfires are a fab idea in a place like this, and the folk on site have made such things simple: there are firepits available to hire (only a limited number though, so booking's essential) and there's a stock of logs, kindling, firelighters and flo gas on sale too.

Pint-sized visitors can mess about on the boat in the playground, which is well-equipped with climbing frames, swings and a large trampoline, plus plenty of space for ball games. The site is also Fido-friendly, with a dedicated area for dog walking.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings can only be accepted from families or couples where the named hirer is over 21 and is part of the holiday party.

Campfires must be in a self-contained firepit raised off the ground and a safe distance away from tents, caravans and awnings etc

The friendly staff, the location and the extra privacy for the pitches provided by the lovely plants and hedges.

    Disliked:

It’s right next to a busy road which is noisy.
The showers and loos were very clean but were freezing! Also, no power points for hairdryers etc in the wash block, which is a bit annoying.

From the manager...

Thanks for the good review! We are pleased you found all staff friendly and appreciated the privacy provided by the well tended hedges and plants. We provide a basic hairdryer in both men’s and ladies blocks but don't have normal plug sockets in the wet rooms for safety reasons.
We do hope you would recommend us and that we can welcome you back at some point!

Super clean & well kept site. Owners & staff helpful & friendly. Pitches completely flat. Gravelled paths which help in bad weather. Close to supermarket facilities. Well stocked little shop on site. Not overly priced. Everything there you need for a lovely, relaxing get away. Great location to visit Cornish must sees.

    Disliked:

No far from extremely busy road, (speed limit needs lowering *note local council!) traffic noise 24/7 if you're not used to it.

From the manager...

Thankyou so much Riona!
It was lovely to have the 3 of you here - really pleased you had a great stay and made the most of our location by getting out and about exploring. Fantastic photos too!
We hope we can welcome you back.

Arrived to a “self- service” style check in, very easy to set up and Jo came round later on in the afternoon to check everything was ok, very friendly. Even text me to advise they did have salt and pepper in the shop so we didn’t have to walk over. Clean site with the best showers we’ve had on any holiday. Love the fact they actually stay on for more than 5 seconds! Although I didn’t research the site location before hand the road wasn’t as loud as we expected. Pitches are quite close together but we didn’t feel overlooked and weren’t disturbed by other travellers. Will definitely return and recommend.

Proximity to a39 and the constant traffic noise which was akin to sleeping in a layby. potholes long entrance road,

From the manager...

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay despite fantastic weather.
The entrance road is very short but actively used by heavy farm machinery and is council owned. We report the potholes twice a year - they come out and fill them in then we get a lot of rain, they appear again and we are back to square 1. We are on a waiting list for the road to be re surfaced but this is Cornwall and things take a while!
Before booking a site i would suggest looking at it’s location - it is VERY obvious we are next to an ‘A’ road and lots of reviews do mention this - it bothers a few but not the majority as most people would not book if they were light sleepers or had any concerns.
It is a shame you would not return.

Local attractions

The Laurels is two miles from the riverside market town of Wadebridge (the bus stops right outside the site), where guests will find good eating and shopping.

A little further up the road is Padstow, which has TV chef Rick Stein’s famously fabulous seafood restaurants and cookery school as well as some fine surfing beaches. Boardmasters can also find ripping fun at nearby Polzeath, and the world-famous waves of Newquay are only 15 miles away.

Fans of the Doc Martin TV series should visit the nearby fishing village of Port Isaac to see the doc’s cottage and many other pretty 'Portwenn' locations.

This being Cornwall, there are oodles of interesting things to see and do – too many to list here, but to start you off: it’s only a short drive to the legendary Tintagel Castle, the fascinating biospheres of the Eden Project, or the fishing village of Boscastle.

Guests could also make a day trip to Lands End (perhaps combined with a walk around the attractive harbour town of Penzance), to the National Maritime Museum and dockyards at Falmouth, or to St. Ives, to explore the colourful harbour and art deco splendour of the Tate Gallery.

Must see

  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (2.5 miles)
