Adventure play area

  • Flat level grass pitches with easy access from the A30
  • A mile from the surfing beach of Porthtowan
  • Adventure play area, swings, shop and games room
Small and friendly, family run and a mere mile from the first-rate Cornish beach of Porthtowan… this is a peaceful and well located place for Cornwall breaks. Porthtowan Tourist Park is in a quiet countryside setting, on the edge of Porthtowan village surrounded by fields and country lanes – but is only a couple of miles from the A30 and has easy access to Truro, Portreath, Tehidy Country Park and the South West Coast Path. This is an award-winning park, with modern facilities maintained to a high standard. There's a games room and adventure play area for leisurely times indoors or out; a tourist information room for plotting your next Cornish stopoff, and a food shop open daily – you'll be chuffed to hear that barbecues are allowed on site too... Among the well-kept amenities are a launderette, a washing-up area and a disabled-friendly toilet and shower block. Dogs are welcome on site.

Liked The site itself. Very will presented and maintained.
The location, quiet but accessible and close to nice beaches.
The staff, friendly and helpful.
The games room and children’s play area.
Wifi, a nice surprise and perfectly adequate for browsing and email etc.
The wildlife, rabbits and birds.

Disliked Nothing really.
You do need a car really because the roads have no footpaths and it’s quite hilly.

From the manager: Dear Graham,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the park itself and found it well presented, maintained, peaceful and conveniently located for exploring the local beaches. It is also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the games room, play area, wildlife and that the WiFi was a pleasant surprise!

Most of all, thank you for your kind comments about our team. We really appreciate you mentioning how friendly and helpful you found everyone.

We completely agree that, as is the case with much of Cornwall, due to the hills and lack of footpaths on some of the local roads, having a car makes exploring the area much easier.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, Graham. It was a pleasure having you here, and we would love to welcome you back again in the future.

Kind regards,

Andrew, Angie & James

Thank you so much for your fantastic 10/10 review! We’re delighted to hear that you and your family love it here and will be coming back to see us again.

We’re especially pleased that the milkshakes were a hit! Unfortunately, we’ll have to admit that we don’t have quite as much control over the Cornish mist and wind! 😄

Thank you again for recommending us, and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Porthtowan Tourist Park soon.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We throughly enjoyed our stay at this campsite. It’s a relatively small campsite to what we have stayed on before which was a lovely change as it was definitely more peaceful.
It was more expensive than other sites but the care of the site, cleanliness etc really showed that you get what you pay for. The washroom and shower facilities were lovely, fresh and clean. Also the washing up room was immaculate.

We stayed near to the children’s park which was fabulous as our little boy played there constantly - it’s a lovely big play area that is well maintained.

Overall though we had an amazing time - perfect setting that is near to supermarkets, beach etc.

Tip: Wednesday in the summer is pizza night and we definitely recommend this - they were very tasty! Order in advance. They have veggie and vegan options.

Disliked The only minor issue we had was some parents are not as considerate in ensuring their children vacate the park at dusk (as signs state) so it can be quite loud late at night with children and young adults still in the park. This can make getting young children to sleep quite difficult so bear this in mind in where you set up camp.

From the manager: Thank you so much, Julia, for your lovely review and for giving us such a fantastic 9/10 rating.

We’re really pleased to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the peaceful atmosphere, cleanliness and care we put into maintaining the park. It’s wonderful to know that the facilities, children’s play area and location all helped make your family holiday a memorable one.

We’re also delighted you enjoyed our Wednesday pizza night — thank you for the recommendation! We’ll be sure to pass your kind comments on to the team.

We’re sorry that the noise from the play area after dusk was an issue during your stay. We do have signs asking children and young people to leave the park at dusk, and we appreciate how important this is for families with younger children. We’ll continue to remind guests of this, particularly during the busy summer weeks.

Thank you again for choosing Porthtowan Tourist Park and for your recommendation. We’d be delighted to welcome you and your family back again in the future.

Local attractions

Stick to the north coast area, venture inland, or head down to Falmouth and the south coast, all within easy driving distance of here. Within walking distance, the beach of Porthtowan is a popular spot for surfers and families, with plenty of rockpools and caves to explore around its scenic wide stretch of sand. The site is also a short walk from the South West Coast Path – hike the up and down trail to Portreath four or so miles west – and near the Mineral Tramways trail, 14 mostly traffic-free miles from Portreath to Devoran down on the south coast near Falmouth. Shops, restaurants, bars and river boat trips are all at Truro a few miles away; also take time to see the museum, and, if you're around on Wednesday or Saturday, to mooch around the Truro farmers' market on Lemon Quay. Gardens? Several are in the area, with the National Trust's Trerice and Glendurgan the closest to the site. Or gold? Take a trip to Cornwall Gold Centre on the Portreath Road, to pan for gold, have a go at pottery, or just look significantly at your significant other over the gold, silver and pearl jewellery for sale. For family cycling or walking, Tehidy Country Park just outside Portreath is flat and buggy-friendly, and leads out to spectacular views for smashing picnics. More actively, try SK8 Skate Park and The Track, Sithians Lake for watersports and Camel Creek Adventure Park at Wadebridge.
