General

  • A quick drive from St Ives
  • Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Family- and dog-friendly park

If you're after a Cornish holiday set in the county's southwest and within seriously simple reach of the arty town of St Ives, have a look at highly regarded and family friendly Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park: it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre and handily set for getting around the spectacular scenery of the Land's End peninsula.

Nature, walks and calm quiet days are in these parts too, as Penderleath is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among the microclimate of Penwith, with easy access to the South West Coast Path running along Cornwall's entire coastline. The site is easy to get to from the A30.

The owners take pride in the clean and friendly atmosphere of their park, and have updated the original granite barns into swish site facilities of a licensed bar, spacious games room and a family room. There's also a beer garden and a play area for adult relaxing and kids letting off steam.

Other facilities include toilet blocks with free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up room, and a small shop stocked with essentials and gas bottles.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

    Disliked:

On a 3 night stay, other than on arrival we did not see a member of staff. The shop was never open and the other on site amenities were not open either. The facilities were not the ones pictured on the website, obviously only used in the busy periods but this wasn’t stated to us - the showers available to us were in the toilets and were less than satisfactory. No temperature controls for the shower so it was !HOT! Or nothing - certainly no good if you have children!!

Nice and peaceful site which was very well maintained. Only a short drive into St Ives. Shower was hot and kept clean.

    Disliked:

Could’ve done with the extra shower block being opened to avoid the cue in the morning. Even though there were very few people on site everybody seemed to need to shower at the same time.

Booked my t5 camper with rear tailgate awning in. Loads of pitches with surrounding trees but was placed in the open. To my delight returning to site one night to find my awning trashed by the wind. Snapped and split most of poles ( was a new cayman tailgate awning)

    It was at best ‘Ok’
Views were nice and area was ok

    Disliked:

Stayed on the value field which was on quite a big slope, a lot of rubbish, disused caravans on the field and a long way from the facilities. It wasn’t cheap and they should change name from ‘value’ to ‘scruffy/dirty’ field.

Female staff/man who showed you the pitch were pleasant but the male owner/worker with long hair& pony tail was rude and a disgrace to the hospitality of the park. He made prejudiced remarks about my partner which we can only believe was about us being from ‘up north’
Not a great idea for an area which is reliant on tourists!

One day, approaching the site we on the narrow roads, we came ‘head to head’ in the carwith him. He was in a car coming in the opposite direction. He was closest to the site and more able to reverse to allow traffic to flow and we were unable to reverse as there were other cars behind us. This man from the very campsite we were paying to stay in REFUSED POINT BLANK to move his car back. When my partner approached him and asked him to move back and reminded him we were paying to stay at the campsite where he worked/lived he threatened my partner in the presence of my children to have us thrown off as he didn’t like us. This was
a ridiculous statement as he didn’t know us.
This was very upsetting to my children and resulted in us leaving the site 2 days before we were due to.

I wouldn’t recommend and would never return

Local attractions

The art galleries, craft galleries and inns and restaurants of St Ives are all easy to get to from the site, as it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre. Parking can be a bit tricky in town in high season, so save stress – and cash – by taking the bus, running five times a day from right outside the site.

St Ives's beaches are among the many highly scenic swathes of sand around Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park and the Land's End part of Cornwall, almost all with easy access to spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path where short stretches or longer hikes in either direction are easy to find.

Penzance five miles from base is a 20-minute walk from Cornish landmark St Michael's Mount, the tiny tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by causeway. Further along at 16 miles is Land's End, via Porthcurno and the smashing cliffside Minack Theatre.

Must see

  • Tate St Ives (2.4 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (4.8 miles)
  • Cornwall Industrial Discovery Centre (11.1 miles)

National Trust

  • St Michael's Mount (4.8 miles)
