General

  • A quick drive from St Ives
  • Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Family- and dog-friendly park

If you're after a Cornish holiday set in the county's southwest and within seriously simple reach of the arty town of St Ives, have a look at highly regarded and family friendly Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park: it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre and handily set for getting around the spectacular scenery of the Land's End peninsula.

Nature, walks and calm quiet days are in these parts too, as Penderleath is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among the microclimate of Penwith, with easy access to the South West Coast Path running along Cornwall's entire coastline. The site is easy to get to from the A30.

The owners take pride in the clean and friendly atmosphere of their park, and have updated the original granite barns into swish site facilities of a licensed bar, spacious games room and a family room. There's also a beer garden and a play area for adult relaxing and kids letting off steam.

Other facilities include toilet blocks with free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up room, and a small shop stocked with essentials and gas bottles.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

This site is great for a short stay with young children. 02/09/2018

Very peaceful campsite. Could hear the birds and the trees rustling. Wild rabbits came out at night which was exciting for the kids to see so we put carrots out for them and watched. Lots of room to fly a kite. Liked the radio in the ladies toilet/shower block. Weather was great too. Great location with easy access to A30 and for lands end or st ives direction.

    Disliked:

Not keen on the games room or play park. Needs modernising and made more safe. No fresh milk available in the shop. Nearest place a few miles away. Unlevel pitch.

Very close to St.ives. Bus service from the camp site to st ives and back for two pounds each way. Taxi service from the campsite to st.ives cost 7.50 which is still cheaper than paying to park.

    Large pitches

The friendly man that works in the reception/shop

    Disliked:

The facilities - showers and toilets were not overly clean and could have benefitted from being cleaned more than once a day especially during rainy/busy periods.

Hair dryer/plug sockets - you have to pay to use these services so bare in mind. Considering how poor the hair dryer was I wouldn’t bother.

Lighting - poor lighting at night time walking up the main road on the campsite from the toilet blocks to the main entrance of the camping fields.

Lovely quiet camp site with great amenities and in perfect distance of St. Ives. The bus to town stops right outside the camp site and costs £2. For someone who mostly wild camps the Toilet and shower block was a welcome change. There is a small shop on site with all the essentials you need. Nice play area for smaller children and a games room with pool table, darts, air hockey table etc to keep kids entertained. The staff were lovely and friendly and always on hand to help with local advice. We particularly loved the onsite pub, the Hayloft. Fantastic friendly staff, serving hot food and cold beers, very dog friendly with a lovely atmosphere. The Perfect relaxing environment after a busy day in St. Ives.

    Disliked:

The camp site can get very windy but there is not much you can do about the wind near the coast. We made sure our tent and awning were well secured and didn’t encounter any issues.

Local attractions

The art galleries, craft galleries and inns and restaurants of St Ives are all easy to get to from the site, as it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre. Parking can be a bit tricky in town in high season, so save stress – and cash – by taking the bus, running five times a day from right outside the site.

St Ives's beaches are among the many highly scenic swathes of sand around Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park and the Land's End part of Cornwall, almost all with easy access to spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path where short stretches or longer hikes in either direction are easy to find.

Penzance five miles from base is a 20-minute walk from Cornish landmark St Michael's Mount, the tiny tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by causeway. Further along at 16 miles is Land's End, via Porthcurno and the smashing cliffside Minack Theatre.

Must see

  • Tate St Ives (2.4 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (4.8 miles)
  • Cornwall Industrial Discovery Centre (11.1 miles)
