General

  • A quick drive from St Ives
  • Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Family- and dog-friendly park

If you're after a Cornish holiday set in the county's southwest and within seriously simple reach of the arty town of St Ives, have a look at highly regarded and family friendly Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park: it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre and handily set for getting around the spectacular scenery of the Land's End peninsula.

Nature, walks and calm quiet days are in these parts too, as Penderleath is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among the microclimate of Penwith, with easy access to the South West Coast Path running along Cornwall's entire coastline. The site is easy to get to from the A30.

The owner take pride in the clean and friendly atmosphere of their park, and have updated the original granite barns into swish site facilities of a licensed bar, spacious games room and a family room. There's also a beer garden and a play area for adult relaxing and kids letting off steam.

Other facilities include toilet blocks with free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up room, and a small shop stocked with essentials and gas bottles.

The owners 'upgraded' our pitch due to high winds, to a more shielded pitch, which we were very grateful for. There were marked pitches with ample space, It was clean. The book loan facility was inspired. The shop, although we didn't use it was well stocked. There was a bar & takeaway available. There was a good park although my daughter didn't use it

    Disliked:

The 'cafe' was a coffee machine, however, my daughter loved the 'library' there. She is a bookworm & found a new author to follow. The showers, when all in use, had no pressure & turned cold

The site was great! Really clean and well presented. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The facilities on the site are great.
The pitches are really well laid out and have plenty of space for a car and tent with room to spare.
The location is perfect for the beaches and bars of St Ives. Just a short £7.50 taxi ride or a convenient bus ride away.
Would definitely book to stay again when I'm next in the area.

Location was beautiful. Nice and quiet but close to St. Ives. Pitch against the wall was lovely. Nice size pitch. Well stocked shop and lots of amenities.

    Disliked:

Road to the site is incredibly narrow and would be tricky to do with a caravan. The showers were rather dirty even early in the morning.

Local attractions

The art galleries, craft galleries and inns and restaurants of St Ives are all easy to get to from the site, as it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre. Parking can be a bit tricky in town in high season, so save stress – and cash – by taking the bus, running five times a day from right outside the site.

St Ives's beaches are among the many highly scenic swathes of sand around Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park and the Land's End part of Cornwall, almost all with easy access to spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path where short stretches or longer hikes in either direction are easy to find.

Penzance five miles from base is a 20-minute walk from Cornish landmark St Michael's Mount, the tiny tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by causeway. Further along at 16 miles is Land's End, via Porthcurno and the smashing cliffside Minack Theatre.

Must see

  • Tate St Ives (2.4 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (4.8 miles)
  • Cornwall Industrial Discovery Centre (11.1 miles)
