  • Dog-friendly pop-up site surrounded by the Cornwall countryside
  • Walking distance from the beach; a 15-minute drive to the Eden Project
  • Links to trails and footpaths; pub nearby; natural spring water on tap
Pop up and pitch up… that's the method at Menagwins Farm, a family-run pop-up campsite in the Pentewan Valley. Surrounded by the Cornwall countryside and woodlands, this family-friendly and dog-friendly site is just outside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has views towards the local tin mines. So, gather a group, round up the family or whisk your partner away for a break in the outdoors, as you’ll be well-based for cycling, walking or just kicking back for a bit. To the sea you go… it’s a 45-minute walk (or a 20-minute bicycle ride) down to Porthpean, where you can potter around the cafés and shops or claim space on the beach. Take your pick from several more coastal spots nearby: Pentewan beach, Charlestown harbour (topsail schooners and tall ships are the speciality here) and Mevagissey harbour are all close by – some of them with places to hire out a paddleboard, kayak or boat. The farm entrance also links up with the Pentewan Trail and there’s a public footpath through the farm towards 330 miles of coastal paths. A farm dedicated to both agriculture and nature, the land is well maintained and structures are kept to a minimum on site, so facilities are simple and include composting toilets, a cold shower and natural spring water on tap. The spacious pitches all have a small parking space too. For handy eats, you can take your pick from several restaurants, takeaways and pubs nearby, including a traditional 16th-century pub five minutes’ drive away and dining down at the harbour.

Liked: We greatly appreciate the bell tent. Daisy has been exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the serene environment, which brought us closer to nature. The children also delighted in playing football, as the expansive field provided ample space for their activities.

Liked: Lovely campsite with walking distance to the beach. I would imagine it to be quiet when not in the holidays We tried the cold fresh water shower and it was surprisingly refreshing. Not sure it would work in the colder months! Compost toilets were also clean and no bad smells which was a surprise Liked that the campsite owner regularly drove round the site to do checks. Good location

Disliked: The fairy lights in the loos were not working so unless you took a torch with you, the toilet was out of bounds at night. No hand sanitizer in the loo The drive into the campsite wasn’t great- lots of potholes The pitches were slanted so chocks are an absolute must for campers and motorhomes. I ended up having to move my campervan due to some young travellers who pitched their tents within 6 foot of my van, they then proceeded to squawk, and make so much noise that it wasn’t very restful. Very irritating that they were being visited by those who weren’t paying to stay there- which made the noise level unbearable. The grass could be cut back and removed for the pop up campsite.

Liked: Beautiful scenery. Friendly, helpful host. Clean basic facilities provided. Dog friendly. Child friendly. My 15yo daughter enjoyed the space on this site. Basic campsite close to many places of interest. I'm in two minds as to whether I would stay here again. I would stay again if I was visiting nearby places of interest. I liked that is was dog friendly. Not many campsites allow more than two dogs. Then there's the dislikes.....

Disliked: I was really disappointed to find that the campsite is just above a sewage treatment work. Despite the beautiful scenery, I couldn't help but think of the sewage treatment centre hiding behind some trees. I understand that this is no fault of the owner of this campsite, but I would have liked to be made aware of this beforehand to save that disappointment when we arrived. The site is also extremely overpriced.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The most idyllic and peaceful site, with two simple compost toilets and two simple fresh spring water showers! What's not to love! The compost toilets were very well kept and surprisingly acceptable.

Disliked: My husband was fine with the cold shower, but I must admit i didnt venture in, but may have if we'd stayed longer than two nights, or it had been warmer! Clearly not for everyone.
