Eden’s Walk at Rowan Cottage: View of pitch location.

General

  • Pop-up camping in a peaceful village near St Austell, Cornwall
  • A five-minute drive to the Eden Project; 15 minutes to Porthpean beach
  • Streamside pitches with wifi and electric car charging

Tucked away by a stream in a secluded garden, Eden’s Walk is a pop-up micro-site set deep in Cornish countryside near St Austell. As well as peace and quiet, it has one very big USP – it’s only a five-minute drive from the fabulous Eden Project – where you can easily spend a day pottering around the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

Set in the beautiful village of Trethurgy, the wild camping field has easy access to the Clay Trails, a series of walking and cycling routes connecting up Cornwall’s china clay-mining heritage.

For a back-to-basics site, this one is surprisingly well equipped. For a start, there’s a decent wifi connection and charging facilities for your devices if you need to touch base with home.

There’s also ice-pack freezing on hand, as well as chemical disposal, recycling and charging points for electric cars. Please note that although is a portaloo there are no shower facilities here – and that a torch and wellies could well come in handy.

Essentials to feed yourselves can be picked up in St Austell (10 minutes’ drive). There’s no real reason to cook, though, with a winery (five minutes) close by offering a Sunday carvery as well as award-winning English wines, and a homely pub in the neighbouring village of Luxulyan (ten minutes) that serves local meats and fish as well as welcoming kids and dogs.

Please note

Guests under the age of 3 are not allowed on site.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

The site owners were so kind and helpful when we got back late and found our tent deflated. They went over and above the call and gave us dry shelter for the night which had not stopped raining. I would recommend staying here, ideal location t=for the Eden Sessions or a visit to the biomes. Small family run clean and tidy site.

Stayed here for a week in August, just me and 2 kids (11 & 9) and had a fabulous time, felt like wild camping, with the opening of the tent facing all the flowers and bushes, pitch was plenty big enough for our 6 man tunnel tent and the EHU worked without issue. Having free Wifi was great for checking Google Maps and the kids could watch netlix on tablets if it rained, Fire pits / BBQ allowed, so made the most of that. We had our own toilet / shower tent, but there is now a port-a-loo on site. Unlimited access to water - which was a godsend with the kids getting covered in sand, (boil the kettle and a quick wash in a builders trug with a jug - who needs a shower ...!!) The owners were so friendly and helpful and the dogs had a fab time playing with their dog. Very peaceful, its the first time of 10 yrs camping that I didn't need earplugs at night..!! Theres a 'grass area / football pitch' at the end of the drive, which is great if the kids need a run around. Beautifil area, with the Clay Trails just around the corner and a 5 minute walk to the Eden Project, Par Beach is fab for dogs and kids and also Spit Beach, lovely coastal walks, would definately stay again....and thank you for having us... :)

Thank you Julie, we're really glad you had a good time and it was funny watching Pickle and Bailey running around with Faith. We hope to see you in 2022 and we already have a shower, toilet and washing up area planned for then. Best wishes from Mike, Fran and Faith.

My initial thought is to give Eden’s Walk a bad review and then no one will go and we can keep it all for ourselves! But that wouldn’t be fair to Fran and Mike who are two of the kindest, most generous people we’ve ever met. They couldn’t do enough to try and make our stay there comfortable and enjoyable. At present there is only a portaloo on site (no showers etc) but the pitches have electric hook up, super fast WiFi and we had the use of a fire pit and bbq. I know they plan to improve the site but honestly it’s a lovely place run by a lovely couple and although it’s basic at the moment, it’s a great place to stay in a good location. It’s right by the Eden Project and a couple of fab, dog friendly beaches as well as a couple of local supermarkets. Any improvements will only make it even better to visit. We will definitely return. Thank you for a lovely stay and for your kindness

Thank you for your review it is much appreciated, we started this on a bit of a whim and were shocked to be so busy over the summer (that's not difficult with only a few pitches) . . . ! We have learnt a lot and hope to make things more comfortable for our campers next year. Don't forget we can dog sit that lovely doggo anytime! :-)

Fran and Mike are lovely, just the friendliest people which adds to the stay. It was awesome to be able to have a proper natter whilst we were packing away on the Sunday. As the site isn't big the tranquility shines through. There aren't many sites that include EHU and WiFi in the cost so this was great.
Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable, we will be back!
