Eden’s Walk at Rowan Cottage: The Cornish Alps

General

  • Pop-up camping in a peaceful village near St Austell, Cornwall
  • A five-minute drive to the Eden Project; 15 minutes to Porthpean beach
  • Streamside pitches with wifi and electric car charging

Tucked away by a stream in a secluded garden, Eden’s Walk at Rowan Cottage is a pop-up micro-site set deep in Cornish countryside near St Austell. As well as peace and quiet, it has one very big USP – it’s only a five-minute drive or a half-hour walk from the fabulous Eden Project – where you can easily spend a day pottering around the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

Set in the village of Trethurgy, the wild camping garden has easy access to the Clay Trails, a series of walking and cycling routes connecting up Cornwall’s china clay-mining heritage.

For a back-to-basics site, this one is surprisingly well equipped. For a start, there’s a decent wifi connection and charging facilities for your devices if you need to touch base with home.

There’s also ice-pack freezing on hand, as well as chemical disposal, recycling and a charging point for electric cars.

You’ll certainly never starve here either; there’s use of a barbecue (pick up essentials in St Austell, 10 minutes’ drive). There’s no real reason to cook, though, with a winery (five minutes) close by offering a Sunday carvery as well as award-winning English wines, and a homely pub in the neighbouring village of Luxulyan (ten minutes) that serves local meats and fish as well as welcoming kids and dogs.

Please note

Guests under the age of 3 are not allowed on site.

This park has no on-site shower facilities.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Location was brilliant - but the best thing about Eden Walk was our hosts. They were wonderful, nothing was to much trouble and so welcoming.
As a infrequent camper if every host is like them I be doing more camping.
Without doubt we’ll be back for another stay.

Great location for a short stay while going to Eden Sessions. Super friendly, small and basic site. Very easy to walk to and from Eden Project (even late at night!) on very accessible footpath track. Would highly recommend!

Thank you, we are still missing all the buzz of the weekend and meeting so many like-minded people with an interest in the same music. I don't think we will have a weekend like this one again in a hurry, how have I never heard of NIN and I love music?! Best wishes, Fran.

Pretty close to as perfect a camping experience you can get for the eden sessions. Amazing hosts, dropped us off to and picked us up after the gig, really appreciated due to the torrential rain. Existing facilities are already ideal and still being added to. Staying at this site really made the concert an unforgetable experience.

I liked how friendly, welcoming, and kind Mike and Fran were. They go above and beyond at every opportunity and, despite never having met them before, it felt like we were visiting longtime friends or family members.
A friend and I stayed for one night as we were seeing Nine Inch Nails play at the nearby Eden project. Mike gave us a lift to the venue and after the gig when we were struggling to find our way back to the site, came out and found us. Fran and Mike then sat and socialised with us and a few of the other concert goers that we had befriended.

In the morning Mike drove a few of us out to local cafe where we all had a fried breakfast and a lighthearted conversation and a laugh.

The campsite itself is a pop up site in a section of their garden, this makes for a relaxed and fairly quiet environment. If you are visiting the area for an event at the Eden Project then it is likely there will be other campers staying for the same reason and you will be able to make conversation without being overwhelmed by too many people.

When we first arrived, Fran informed us that the static caravan in the site was currently uninhabited so we could use the shower in there. When we went in, songs by Nine Inch Nails were being streamed to a speaker. It was a nice touch and shows the consideration of the hosts that they are aware of the local events.

Staying at Rowan Cottage campsite was an amazing experience due to the incredible hospitality of the hosts. I would definitely stay again and recommend and praise to anyone else looking to visit the area. 10/10

It was a pleasure to have campers here for NIN, the nicest bunch of likeminded people. You are part of our Cornish family now and we hope to see you again in the future. My only regret is I didn't manage to get last minute tickets to see this incredible band!
