  • Small quiet luxury site in Cornwall 10 minutes' drive from St. Austell
  • A 15-minute drive from the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan
  • Pentewan beach and watersports/Charlestown sea fishing within 10 mins
Sandy beaches, surfing, cliff walks, world-renowned spots like the Eden Project 15 minutes' drive away… no, you're not dreaming. The Dream Pods At Bobby’s Lodge are quite simply in a top location, handy for whatever you want to get up to in this fab corner of Cornwall. It’s not just about geography though: the team (should that be the Dream Team?) behind this small site 10 minutes’ drive from St Austell and the sea have worked hard to create a base that’s comfortable and relaxing. It’s a peaceful place, with a pair of friendly horses in the next field and birds in the trees all around. As the sun sets you can grill up a feast on a barbecue on your outside terrace, or hunker down cosy inside; you won’t miss anything going on out in the open, thanks to the big windows in the pods. A separate bathroom with a pumping hot shower and a kitchen kitted out with fridge, toaster and microwave make keeping spruce and keeping fed/watered all so easy too… you might have to pinch yourself every now and then…

Camping pod

Liked: Warm welcome on a family run site.
This was was my first ever stay in the Cornish hinterland, I could reach places to visit on both coasts without having to take a long drive. Also only around half an hour to Minions for starting a walk to the Hurlers and Cheesewring stones.

Tina, the owner, is very friendly and likes to ensure that you're comfortable in the pod without any problems (none whatsoever), I was even invited to share their Christmas lunch. I also got to enjoy the company of three beautiful and friendly dogs including the new puppy, and a horse and pony. Very relaxed atmosphere.

As for the pods, ensuite with a nice hot shower, a huge nest of a bed and still with enough room to not feel claustrophobic. And all very cosy at night with the fairy lights along the wall, also an ordinary light if you need to read etc. All I have to do now is return in Spring to enjoy the fire pit outside, with luck it won't be raining so much next time at night. Definitely worth the trip.

Hopefully be able to sit in on the band practice one day, thanks to everyone at the site and a hello to Bobby.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing

Local attractions

With the coast so close, you’ll want to get down there as soon as you can. It’s a 10-minute drive to Pentewan for canoeing, kayaking, surfing and other sea-based sporting stuff; you can also hire bikes here to explore the coast or join up with the 630-mile South West Coast Path. If you haven’t got a few weeks spare to do the whole lot, try the stretch heading east around the wild and windswept Polperro Heritage Coast, finishing up with a swim on the sheltered beach at Readymoney Cove and a wander round the ruins of 16th-century St. Catherine’s Castle (half an hour from the site). And if fishing’s your thing, your nets runneth over round here with well-stocked lakes at Hewas Water and sea charters from Mevagissey, 10 and 20 minutes away. Mevagissey makes a mighty fine day-trip destination, with a model railway, aquarium, museum and ferry boat rides round the coast to Fowey. There’s more maritime history to be had in Charlestown (five minutes) with its old harbour and a spread of salvaged curios in its Shipwreck and Heritage Centre. It’s 15 minutes to the indoor rainforest biomes of the Eden Project and the outdoor magic of the Lost Gardens of Heligan, major attractions so close to the site you could visit them twice… or more.
