Pitches with a view

General

  • Off-grid eco site in Cornwall, 15 minutes' drive from the coast
  • A 10-minute drive from the Eden Project
  • A 10-minute walk from the Clay Trails walking and cycle paths

Now this one's worth making some noise about… A five-minute drive from the Cornish village of Bugle, Canna Farm is a haven of peace and solitude, close to top surf beaches, the famed rainforest biospheres of the Eden Project and tours and tastings at the St Austell Brewery… what more does anyone need?

Perhaps a simple eco-friendly base to see it all from? One with bags of space, hedgerows, stone walls and long grass giving a sense of privacy are what you'll get at Canna Farm, along with individual and communal firepits. Have a chat with the folks on site to order in fab local produce plus all the kit you need to get a barbecue on the go.

The farm is in a canny location for getting out and about around Cornwall too: it's a 10-minute stroll from here to join the Clay Trails, a network of routes linking mid-Cornwall’s mining heritage with top rural scenery and wildlife. It's also five minutes to the A30, giving easy access across the county from Bodmin Moor to Land’s End, and, if using public transport, about the same to catch buses and trains from Bugle.

Bugle's also the place for more eats, drinks and practicalities: there’s a symphony of useful stuff here including a shop, a pub with food, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway.

Everything! Owners were amazing, super friendly and helpful, very welcoming . The site was immaculate and facilities were the cleanest I've ever seen. There was free fire pit hire as well and bins for every different type of waste so the environment is beening looked after too! Oh and the water is heated by solar panels! I will definitely be returning, what a lovely little find Canna Farm was!

Eco-friendly environment. There is a compost poo and urinal, as well as solar water heater for the hand-wash sink. Loved the fire pit, which they provide, and they sell wood and other things in case you didn’t have. The owner’s big dog was very friendly and loving, brings you joy. We park the car up the hill and went to Eden Project walking! yes, it is about 5km and it was very easy with the signs!

Canna Farm is a welcoming and delightful campsite. The facilities are charming, hand crafted and well designed. The composting toilet is clean and the hand washing was very smart (especially important during this COVID19 pandemic) we felt the campsite owners were taking the pandemic seriously and were doing everything they could to make the campsite a safe place to be. The shower needs a special mention as it was clean, powerful and hot!! (also cleaned after every use during COVID19) altogether a lovely pitch up, I would highly recommend.

This is eco-camp was well organised and the owner was friendly and helpful. The facilities were good albeit rustic.

    Disliked:

Although much thought had gone into trying to reduce the spread of coronavirus, some instructions were a bit confusing and not all were adhered to by everyone.
Also some campers were noisy after dark which made sleeping difficult.

So glad we found this campsite, exactly what we wanted. So lovely and peaceful. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Daisy the dog was interested in my steaks, gave them a good sniff even though still sealed in the packaging. This site gave us the opportunity to go very close to wild camping. It was great that firepits are supplied as you can't camp without a fire in the evening, Generous bags of kindlin and wood for £6 supplied...If you want a quiet peaceful and friendly site I can highly recommend this one..Will most certainly be visiting again, cannot wait. Thank you Nikki for providing such a wonderful place.

Local attractions

Pace yourself and visit the Eden Project more than once for more than one type of adventure: as well as the biodomes to see, there's jumping, swinging, falling and zipwiring all on offer at Eden's Hangloose Adventure. Canna Farm's equally well placed for another major attraction: it's half an hour to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which are a touching tribute to human endeavours as well as a fab horticultural feature to wander around for hours.

For watersports and more sedate seaside activities, it's a 15-minute drive to Carlyon Bay and St Austell and half an hour to the popular coastal spots of Par Sands and Pentewan beach. For a different perspective on the sea, make for Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre (20 minutes) to see a variety of strange stuff salvaged from the waves.

If it's clifftop hikes and trots along the dunes you're into, link up with the South West Coast Path at Charlestown, or pick it up at Par Sands and walk the wilder spaces of the Polperro Heritage Coast, finishing off with a swim at Readymoney Cove (half an hour by car).

Depending on age and tastes, there's plenty of indoor entertainment on offer as well, from tours and tastings at St Austell Brewery (15 minutes), to meeting the feathered inhabitants of the Screech Owl Sanctuary 20 minutes away near St Columb Major.
