Sunny Corner: Within walking distance of beaches

General

  • Cornwall campsite in a flat five-acre field with sea views
  • A 10-minute walk to Trevaunance Cove and Trevellas Cove
  • Direct access to local footpaths and large open fields for games

Tin mines, cool coves and steam railways… Sunny Corner is a top pick for laidback outdoor breaks on Cornwall's north coast, with plenty of things to do in easy reach. This small and well-maintained campsite is in a five-acre field on the edge of the village of St Agnes with stunning sea views, spacious pitches and easy access to all the village's amenities (about 10 minutes' walk away).

Families certainly aren’t forgotten here, as the site is well equipped for all ages. There’s a spacious open field where the kids can blow off steam and make new friends in a safe and welcoming environment. And in terms of practicalities, Sunny Corner has functional toilets and showers for guests, all of which are well-maintained and a short walk away from the pitches.

Sunny Corner is in the area of St Agnes known as Wheal Kitty, so you’ll only be a short five-minute walk from the historic buildings of the Blue Hills Tin Mine, where there’s a small exhibition about Cornwall's industrial past. Trevaunance Cove, a spectacular lifeguarded beach, and the more secluded Trevellas Cove are around a 10-minute walk away, while other coastal havens like Perranporth can be reached in as little as a 10-minute drive.

Food on the brain too? Don’t worry, as you’ll be well set with a number of family-friendly cafés, pubs, restaurants and a couple of small supermarkets in the village that are easy to reach on foot within roughly 10-15 minutes.

Fab - welcoming, great hosts that replied whenever we needed anything. Everyone on the campsite was super friendly also. The only thing that could have been better would be to have a freezer we can put our coolpacks in to keep a cooler fridge going across the weekend.

The awesome facilities, very clean and functional. Loved how close it is to St Agnes and the coastal path with a cracking sea view. The owners are super friendly and helpful, even looked after our things for us when we went to the beach. The Chinese takeaway delivery to the campsite topped it all off. What an awesome place to spend our honeymoon in our newly converted van.
    Thank you!

Good sized pitches, clean toilets well stocked with all essentials, clean showers, good location to get out and explore, useful charging points and washing up facilities.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately after three great nights sleep, we were disturbed on our final two by large groups who played music till the early hours, were swearing loudly and disturbing the peace. This was disappointing, as pitch up specifies no group bookings and we were looking for a quiet, family friendly stay. Additionally, dogs were frequently roaming into other peoples spaces, not on leads and barking at people walking to the toilet. Although I appreciate it is a dog friendly site, this is not people friendly especially to young children.

From the manager...

All I can do is apologise for the noise. Although we do state on pitch up that same sex groups are not allowed it is very difficult to police as they book under a group of adults whioch could me made up of couples.

What a fab campsite. Pitches are huge and lovely and flat! Loads of green space for kids/dogs. Facilities are perfectly adequate and regularly cleaned. Added bonus of electric charging stations. Also loved the collection of bits and bobs available for borrowing - we made use of 2 deck chairs after our friends accidentally forgot theirs.
The village is very close by and has a collection of pubs and a bakery (recommend all of them).
    Overall had a fantastic stay.

    Disliked:

As others have pointed out shower queues can get a little long, mostly when people decide 20 minutes is an acceptable time to take! (Fortunately these are few and far)

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike about our stay at Sunny corner. Probably if they can provide Fire pits and woods at an additional price would be great as you dont have to carry them.

    Well maintained site.
Good size level pitches with sea views.
Excellent location with great access to walks and St Agnes village.
    Clean facilities.
    Enough washing up/water stations.
Good roomy shower and changing space.
No auto shut off in the shower.
Great amount of space in the field for children to play.
    Dog friendly.
    Useful device charging points.
    Good introductory email.
Host made regular on-site checks but was not intrusive.
    Loads of loo roll!

    Disliked:

Hard to get tent pegs into the ground - go prepared with a large mallett!
Not enough showers - had to queue for both loos and showers. Three showers for the amount of people on site was definitely not enough.
Small sink in the loos so if you want to wash and not shower it's awkward (especially as there is no hot water except in the shower).
We felt the gated access was a bit of a nuisance - it wasn't clear why the gates were there, but they may make the site more secure.
Device charging was only via usb - go prepared with the correct cable.
Not sure about communication with the host - I replied to the introductory email with a query but didn't hear back.
There was loud partying noise until late (at least until midnight) - we can't complain as there didn't appear to be any requests to minimise noise after a certain time, just our preference to have quieter evenings.
Quite pricey considering the basic facilities (but the location is excellent!).

Local attractions

Get your hands on Cornish tin products to take home with you and see how the family goes about the ancient tin mining process at Blue Hills Tin Mine (five minutes' walk). After a lesson on the tin mining industry, there’s rockpooling at Trevaunance Cove (10 minutes' walk) or surfing at Perranporth (10 minutes' drive) to keep up the pace.

Indeed, while there are so many places within around 10 minutes’ drive of the site, it doesn’t hurt to go a little further out, especially when there are coastal hotspots like Newquay (25 minutes) or Falmouth (35 minutes) to hand. These bigger places have plenty of entertainment in the form of watersports, amusement parks or shopping… and for steam train trips, there's Lappa Valley (30 minutes).

Cornwall’s well-known for its coast, of course, but there are also some gorgeous gardens that make for a great afternoon out in this southern part of England. There are the rainforest biomes of the huge Eden Project (50 minutes), which has a daring zipwire and giant swing too – or Trebah Garden (45 minutes) for a taste of the sub-tropical beside the coast.
