I should start our review by saying that we quickly realised we had chosen a site that wasn't best suited to our needs with a 6 year old in tow and so decided to move after one night, but we enjoyed our one night stay very much. Please refer to other reviews too, as we have done!

Bohetherick is in a lovely situation with gorgeous views over the Tamar valley below and very little nearby, except the brilliantly named Who'd Have Thought It Inn, probably a good 20 minute walk away (we never made it in for a pint, unfortunately). We arrived in Saltash by 9am and rang ahead and were told there was no problem setting up early. There were only 2 other small tents on the site, so plenty of choice as far as pitching up. We brought a friend with us who had not pre-booked and they were fine with him pitching a small tent too. You need to be alert to the sign that takes you into the site as it's on a sharp bend and you could easily miss it.

The clue is in the 'wild' bit of wild camping which of course means basic amenities: a standpipe for water, a rudimentary shower in a plastic greenhouse and a compost loo. I used the shower on the Sunday morning, which with the morning sun on the greenhouse, was very pleasant. The wife couldn't quite get it warm but still had a go.

The one night we were there was beautiful with the added bonus of a meteorite shower, so sitting by the campfire with very little light pollution to observe the heavens above was magical. The £5 bag of firewood we bought from the owners was good quality stuff and burnt really well: we gifted some to the last couple we saw before we left and took some with us to our new campsite.

So, we would recommend this site to anyone but would of course advise always read the write-ups before you book (our mistake!)

    Disliked:

Not so much a dislike, more an observation. The compost loo was ok but from experience of using these, I think using wood shavings rather than compost helps neutralise niffs better. As we were only there one night, it was ok but I don't know what it would have been like if the site were busy and had alot of users! The flimsy bit of string on the door gave way too, so quite difficult to do one's business without worrying about the door opening. If we'd stayed longer, I'm sure we would have been able to chat to the owners about this.

Our friend who pitched up with us did think that £18 to pitch a tent for one night was also a bit steep.

Beautiful spot overlooking the Tamar valley.
Relaxed site-we just pitched up where we liked. It was very quiet when we visited which we loved.
Fires allowed in the firepits provided, we brought our own logs but you can buy them from the owner.
Fifteen to twenty minute walk to a really nice pub.
Very close to Cotehele if you want to walk there rather than drive.
Loved the owls at night and the stars on a clear night are phenomenal.

    Disliked:

The toilet and shower facilities are very basic. It was fine for us as it was so quiet when we visited but if there had been a lot of people I think this might have been a problem.

The composting toilet did not smell and toilet roll was provided but I found the toilet seat a bit high!

The shower is not very private. I would have preferred a locking door or at least a zip that zipped up the greenhouse door! Could not really get the water very hot either.

The grass was very long..I think a mow might have improved the pitches.

That there wasn't loads of people and that there weren't things like games rooms and a camp shop. We wanted to go to Cornwall but not be with all the crowds, so this was perfect. It is a bit rough and ready but we like that :-) loved the campfires we could have- very important for my partner.

We had a brilliant time even though it rained the first night.
Being able to have a camp fire is the best thing and there is loads of space and gorgeous views.
The compost toilet really makes sense and the shower heats the little shower room up beautifully.
We've been two years running and will definitely go again.
