Plenty of space to play

General

  • Quiet site with excellent views and good local walks
  • Pub/restaurant, village shop and play park within walking distance
  • A mile and a half from Perranporth beach

This peaceful Perranporth site is in properly prime position: it's set in spectacular Cornish countryside with first-rate views, and has easy access to Newquay and Truro as well as Perranporth. The nearest beach is a mere mile and a half away.

Reen Cross Campsite is a family-friendly park, welcoming families and couples only (and dogs, as long as they're well-behaved types and are kept on leads at all times while on site, ta). Pitches are large and well spaced out, on a flat camping field of around three acres, so there's plenty of room for the kids – and grownups – to play.

Among the amenities are chemical disposal and facilities for ice pack freezing; new shower, toilet and laundry/washing-up facilities were added in 2017.

Barbecues are allowed if raised off the ground. If you want to sup out, Reen Cross's local village is Goonhavern, half a mile away and home of the refurbished New Inn.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Very friendly welcome by the owners, very helpful about the area.
    Good size pitches.

    Disliked:

Surprised to see no shop on site, limited shower block, not a problem on this visit as not too busy. Didn't use bbq due to dead, dry vegetation between the camping fields as we felt it may have been a fire hazard.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We like to keep the site relaxed and quiet and don’t have a shop as a short walk along the bridle path (half mile) takes you to Goonhavern with londis shop, bay tree restaurant, new inn pub and children’s play park. Good to hear you like our large pitch sizes. We have designed the site so everyone can enjoy the space they deserve on holiday. This season we decided to let the native wild plants grow and it was quite dry but there is plenty of open space for a BBQ. Facilities wise we have family wash room, 7 toilets, 7 basins, six showers plus washing up area with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board.

  • Liked:

Hosts were fantastic, couldn't fault them, constantly recommending places to go, which was very helpful. The area was nice, caravan was big enough for us and our tiny one.

    Disliked:

Kitchen area bit too open, the baby was constantly trying to get at the oven door and had to block off the fire and eventually managed to remove the carbon detector from its low down place as the baby kept trying to play with it!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed your visit.....we have some new static holiday homes arriving for next season that may have a better lay out for you with a baby...although most caravans have open plan to kitchen. The CO detector is low as that is the best place for early warning of carbon monoxide....but I will see if there is an alternative location out of a crawling child’s reach. It may be that I can provide a well placed child gate to keep toddlers from the kitchen area. Thanks for the feed back I will check it out for next season...glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We were glad it wasn't busy as there are not many toilet facilities and only two showers. I would expect if it was busy this would get a little annoying!

From the manager...

Good to hear that you enjoyed our spacious pitches and that the sunshine stayed with you. We have five toilets and showers (two for each sex and one family/disabled shower room plus one shower wet room and two toilets in our caravan club field....so that there is plenty of options for guests.
See you next time.

A half hour's walk along a pleasant lane, without too many cars, eating blackberries on the way, as it was August, down the hill to Perranporth. We only used the car once during the week. The caravan, while not in the first flush of youth was adequate and value for money. We had a lovely walk to St Agness, where we had a barbecue on the beach, and managed a 22.5 mile walk to Newquay and back along the coastal footpath. Fish and chips in Rick Stein's restaurant in Newquay was an adequate reward.
Beautiful countryside all around and so many places to visit. Having put so much carbon into the atmosphere on the 450 mile drive there we were quite happy not to use the car.

They had problems with the drains here, one shower didnt work and the other one was blocked and was spilling all over the floor into another drain

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. During your two night stay, unfortunately another guest had blocked a shower trap with sand from the beach. We do not have a problem with our drains which were put in new two years ago and far exceed requirements. We now have signs up to remind guests to remove sand outside and not into our shower traps which have to be removed and dismantled to clean fully. As it was only one shower area and with the family / Disabled shower room uneffected, I hope it did not inconvenience your stay too much. Good to hear you enjoyed the non electric pitches. See you again next time.

Thank you for your review. We value all feedback to improve the site. I am pleased to say that we had already purchased extra dishwash sinks for a wash up cabin that we plan to build ready for summer 2020. Glad you enjoyed the rest of our facilities and found our pitches and location to be good. Hope to see u again next year.

The location and the peace .

    Disliked:

The sloped pitch , the toilets/showers not regularly cleaned , and problems with being blocked . Slow to drain away.
Uneven shower temperature, which with young children is not ideal.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We value all feedback so that we can continually improve what we offer our guests. However, it is best to tell us during your stay of any issues so that we have chance to remedy any problem and improve your experience. If guests follow the instructions provided there is a good supply of shower water at a good contact temperature. As with most showers at start up there may be a momentary fluctuation in temperature as the supplies equilibriate. On ours I have timed this to be approx 12 seconds. One wave o the infra red sensor will provide a good supply of nice shower temperature water.
We now have signs up to advise not to enter showers with sand as this caused a blockage which to time for management and cleaners to resolve. All guests are minded to rinse off any sand out side before entering the shower so that cleaning staff can spend time cleaning rather than dealing with sand in shower traps. Thank you.

Local attractions

The beaches at Perranporth are less than two miles from Reen Cross Campsite and, along with Newquay, are top foamy spots for north Cornwall surfing and kitesurfing. Drop into the tourist office to get discount vouchers for the local surf schools if you'd like to learn how to board.

Perranporth is also home to the gigs and pints of The Watering Hole, the only UK pub to be set right on the sands, and like all the seaside towns around Cornwall has easy access to the South West Coast Path, the spectacular 630-mile trail running from Minehead in Somerset along the Cornwall and Devon coasts down to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

From Perranporth, hike to Newquay in one direction or to St Agnes or Portreath in the other; all places have provisions for pitstops for traversing further should you and your feet wish.

Highly viewsome teeing off at Perranporth Golf Club is about a mile away; horse riding stables within the same distance, and a play park and football field are close to the site.

Within easy driving distance are days out at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, Newquay's Holywell Bay Fun Park, the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, and DairyLand Farmworld, the award-winning attraction near Newquay.
