General

  • Spacious site near the centre of Cornwall
  • Easy access to the beaches of the north and south coasts
  • Pubs, restaurants and shops all nearby

Gno what? If you fancy a friendly, clean and quiet campsite in the open countryside of Cornwall, a short drive from the north coast's fab surf at Newquay and with a National Nature Reserve on the doorstep, you should give scenic Gnome World a whirl.

The seven-mile Goss Moor Trail is opposite the park for easy ambles or bike rides along its flat terrain, part of the Goss Moor National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest for a spot of wildlife watching a quick walk from your pitch.

By car, the beaches of Newquay and the north coast – Mawgan Porth, Crantock, Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach – are within a few minutes' drive, and the ports and coastline of the south, such as Mevagissey and Fowey, not much further.

There's plenty of room on this spacious site for family games, alongside a well-equipped play area for little imps, a well-maintained toilet and shower block with disabled facilities near the touring and camping field, and a token-operated launderette.

Pubs, convenience stores and restaurants are within walking distance and a shop is also on site to pick up essentials – yes, you can buy your own gnome here to take home…

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Excellent site, lots of space, no need to camp on top of others 02/09/2018

When we go camping we like to be in a big open field without every other tent on top of us and we certainly got that here. There are three large fields to choose from for non electric camping. We went at the end of the last field and could barely see another tent the whole time we were here, our ideal! Tonnes of space for the kids to run around and no need to worry about them waking the rest of the campsite at silly o’clock in the morning! We had a short walk to the shower and toilet block but it was nothing really. Saying that if you want to be closer to the toilets block and have people around you there’s plenty of other spaces to choose from.

The showers and toilet block was immaculate, lovely hot showers, big cubicles and never a queue.

Easily accessible freezer for ice blocks was very handy.

This site was a really reasonable rate for a non electric pitch and we will most certainly be back.

I picked my own pitch. Staff very friendly. Lovely views. Clean shower and toilet facilities. Went blackberry picking on site, and loved watching the rabbits and birds. Was very peaceful until the noisy neighbours arrived home. Was nice to be given the wifi code on arrival without needing to ask for it, I can't say I made use of it but it was good to have the option.

    Disliked:

Having to shout upstairs to get attention on arrival, and again when I popped in with a question. Showers too hot in my opinion, with no temperature control and only running for about 15 seconds before having to press the button again, which resulted in spray straight in the face. The shop left a lot to be desired, with very little in way of camping essentials (may be a little late in season, who knows)... great if you want a gnome though, and no one manning it. My main bugbare was none ehu pitches right across from ehu, meaning my lovely peace and quiet was disturbed by a very loud TV, I haven't watched Corrie on over 20 years but can tell you what happened this week.

Local attractions

Gnome World is peacefully placed away from the main tourist trail of Cornwall, but cunningly sited for easy access to all the best attractions of the county's north and south. The Crealy Great Adventure Park and Newquay Zoo are both less than seven miles away.

We'd recommend a week each if poss at the beaches of the north and then the south: at the north, head for the world-famous surfing beaches of Newquay including Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, both of which have surf shops for kit hire and lessons.

If you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths, Porth beach, also at Newquay, doesn't allow surfing in the summer season so has a quieter family feel.

To the south, Mevagissey and Fowey are both popular ports with visitors, Mevagissey for its historic harbour and Fowey for yacht spotting and a trip on the passenger ferry to Polruan or back to Mevagissey.

On land, there's loads to do too, like exploring Cornwall's old tin mines, part of a World Heritage Site or having a Cornish pasty and ice-cream in every old fishing village dotted along the coast.

Seafood should be sampled in Padstow and art in St Ives too, or spend a day at Cornwall's best known attractions, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both easy to get to from Mevagissey and Fowey.

If you fancy a flight, take a helicopter ride to the beaut Isles of Scilly from Newquay.

Must see
