  • Quiet, spacious site near the centre of Cornwall
  • Within 20 minutes' drive of north and south coast beaches
  • Pubs, restaurants and shops all a short drive away
If you fancy a friendly, clean and quiet site in the open countryside of Cornwall, a short drive from the north coast's excellent surf at Newquay and with a National Nature Reserve on the doorstep, give scenic Moorland View Park (formerly known as Gnome World Holiday Park) a whirl. The seven-mile Goss Moor Trail is opposite the park for easy ambles or bike rides along its flat terrain. It's part of the Goss Moor National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest, so it's easy to go out on foot for a spot of wildlife watching. By car, the beaches of Newquay and the north coast – Mawgan Porth, Crantock, Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach – are within a 20 minutes' drive, and the ports and coastline of the south, such as Mevagissey and Fowey, are not much further. There's plenty of room on this spacious site for family games, alongside a well-equipped play area, a well-maintained toilet and shower block, accessible facilities and a token-operated launderette. Pubs, convenience stores and restaurants are all a short drive away.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Loved location for Cornwall. Facilities and options as a base for Cornwall.

Disliked Not any dislikes really just top camping field close to railway line so will hear trains during day and a slight slope so levelling might be needed.

Liked The pitch we had was a good size, washing and drying facilities for clothes were great, the toilets and showers were kept clean. Staff at the office were friendly and very helpful. We are looking to book again.

Disliked The only thing we disliked were some people let their children run onto our pitch and and caused a slight disturbance,bm but this wasn't the fault of the holiday park just individuals who had pitches and children.

Local attractions

Moorland View Park is peacefully placed away from the main tourist trail of Cornwall, but cunningly sited for easy access to all the best attractions of the county's north and south. The Crealy Great Adventure Park and Newquay Zoo are both less than seven miles away. If poss plan plenty of time at the beaches of both the north and the south: at the north, head for the world-famous surfing beaches of Newquay including Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, both of which have surf shops for kit hire and lessons. If you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths, Porth beach, also at Newquay, doesn't allow surfing in the summer season, so it has a quieter family feel. To the south, Mevagissey and Fowey are both popular ports with visitors, Mevagissey for its historic harbour and Fowey for yacht spotting and a trip on the passenger ferry to Polruan or back to Mevagissey. On land, there are loads to do too, like exploring Cornwall's old tin mines, part of a World Heritage Site or having a Cornish pasty and ice cream in every old fishing village dotted along the coast. Seafood should be sampled in Padstow and art in St Ives too, or spend a day at Cornwall's best known attractions, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both easy to get to from Mevagissey and Fowey. If you fancy a flight, take a helicopter ride to the Isles of Scilly from Newquay.
