General

  • Peaceful and private park in a Cornish valley
  • A few miles from the Eden Project
  • Adventure playground, games room and spotless amenities

Sometimes all you want is peace and quiet. Yes, even if you’re going to Cornwall and thousands of other holidaymakers have evidently had the same idea at the same time.

But peace is possible among the madding crowds, as can be seen by a trip to Lanlivery’s Eden Valley Holiday Park, a secluded site in a Cornish valley surrounded by trees and rhododendron bushes. And when you’re ready to brave the throngs, the park is handy for the highlights of Cornwall including the famous Eden Project a few miles away.

As you might deduce, Eden Valley is geared towards families and those who aren’t into noisy clubhouses or flashy evening entertainment. It’s a peaceful place set up to be as private as possible, with a select number of pitches in each linked wooded paddock (there’s also a dog-walking paddock so even family friends can get a bit of peace).

Kids have a big playground on site with a woodland course, swings, bridges and a fort... just the place for extra privacy... And if you're feeling competitive? Try the indoor games room with its pool table and ping pong for family challenges.

Amenities are kept to a spotless standard by Darren, Ginny and the team, and include a shower block with roomy cubicles each with their own toilet, sink and power shower. A launderette is also on site along with separate areas for washing up and vegetable prep. All in all, a little peace of paradise…

Great welcome. Level and private gravel site with lots of space.
Warm shower room with fab water pressure - just what I wanted! and nice tidy room to do the dishes. Very nice, clean site.

    Disliked:

Only thing to note was have a long lead for an electric hook up as had to pass through hedge or hang over tree. Wifi has to be paid for and a limit on number of devices and hard to get mine connected as hit and miss.

The campsite is in a stunning woodland area with different groups of pitches hidden away from each other by the trees, so despite being quite a large site you can only see a handful of other pitches from yours. The hosts are very friendly and they keep the site and amenities spotlessly clean.

    Disliked:

Not their fault, but while on site I had absolutely no mobile signal on O2. I had to walk a little way off site to get a signal and I feel the owners perhaps take advantage of this by charging more than is necessary for wifi access.

Again, not the fault of the site, but I would check carefully before staying here if you you're not driving. While it's only 1.5 miles from Lostwithiel, the road you have to walk along to get there has no pavements, a few blind corners and a lot of lorries hurtling up and down it. It's bad enough during the day, but there's also no street lights so once it gets dark it's absolutely terrifying to walk along. Plus it's one hell of a hill; I'm a (fairly) fit 42 year old who doesn't drive and walks everywhere, but I found it physically quite taxing due to the steepness and having to often walk on the overgrown grass verge to avoid traffic.

Local attractions

Three of Cornwall’s major attractions are within a quick drive – the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Crealy Great Adventure Park – but a recommended start is staying local and heading over the hill a mile and a half away to the ancient town of Lostwithiel, set in the Fowey river valley.

After going local, go either north or south: north will take you to Bodmin Moor, home of the fabled beast and the place of legend, tors and Brown Willy, and to the National Trust’s country house Lanhydrock with sculptures, woodland trails, adventure playground and lavish gardens. Or there are the towns of Padstow, Newquay and Tintagel for seafood, surfing and swashbuckling tales of King Arthur; the Camel Trail runs near Padstow for horse riding, cycling and walking.

Going south, more biking and walking is along the China Clay Trail along with digging into history at St Austell’s China Clay Country Park. The town of Looe is within easy reach along the coast for fishing, shark spotting and a 12-mile walk to Fowey along the South West Coast Path if you’re feeling so inclined.
