General

  • Cornish glamping with spectacular views, half a mile from Polperro
  • Hammock, picnic bench, outdoor seating and firepit on each unit
  • Eco-friendly with solar power, natural spring and wildlife pond

What a smashing little site is West Kellow Yurts in Cornwall, 10 minutes' drive from Looe and set on a hillside between Polperro and Lansallos. (Before you read any further, so look at the site pics...)

You might dither over deciding your fave feature of this scenic setting: the splendid countryside and sea views (really, look at the site pics), or the thoughtful touches put into the glamping accommodation placed on a nine-acre field of an organic farm. Want your own hammock to sway gently in the Cornish breeze by day or look at the stars by night? A campfire tripod, Dutch oven, barbecue and kebab stewers on each pitch? Own personal picnic bench and outdoor seating area for communal banquets? Done, done and done.

Matt and team have set everything up here so guests can start seriously relaxing the minute they arrive: a welcome pack will await and all accommodation has kitchen areas and an outdoor firepit. There's also a well-equipped communal kitchen on site with gas hobs, fridge freezer, microwave and coffee room, in the amenities block which comes with a luxury and modern wetroom with toilets and hot showers.

Also on site, wanderers will find a most pretty wildlife pond – again, have a look at the site pics…

Please note

We don’t have a staffed reception area and may not always be on site, so please contact us when you are on your way with your estimated time of arrival and we will be there to welcome you. You must provide your booking ID.

Spacious yurt with a proper double bed. Privacy from the surround fencing. Own campfire with seating and picnic table. All utensils available from the communal kitchen - we has some lovely meals cooked on our campfire. On a clear night the stars are truly amazing. The owners were happy to help for example we mentioned that a kettle was not working & brand new replacement appeared straight away. Its tranquil and peaceful. There's also chickens on site and we could help ourselves to fresh eggs. Loved it so much will definitely go again.

A very peaceful and relaxing stay in a Stunning location and wish we could have stayed longer! A beautiful warm and cosy yurt, even during a night of torrential rain and high winds, close to site facilities. I particularly enjoyed watching the light change through the small ceiling window. We are Seasoned campers but enjoyed the ease and comfort of this trip and the home luxuries such as an electric kettle and running hot water particularly in the shower rooms.
We loved the rustic charm and relaxed nature of this site.

    Disliked:

Particularly if you have younger children it is definitely worth bringing a torch for night time as the solar path lights weren’t working.
We were the only ones there for most of the time but cooking facilities could be restricted during busy periods so it could be worth bring a backup. Our bbq didn’t have a grill in it but I’m sure this would have been rectified had we mentioned it, and bring your own charcoal.

Yurt was very comfortable to stay in, lovely and cosy with comfy bed and warm toasty fire. Liked that still felt like enjoying the beauty of camping (cooking outside/ bbq/ generally being outdoors) but just with the added luxury of a proper bed at night. Lovely views of the surrounding rolling hills.

Local attractions

The narrow winding streets of the village of Polperro, a half-mile walk across the field and down a lane from West Kellow Yurts include several pubs (four with beer gardens) which often have live music and performances in the summer months.

If you're in Polperro in June, potter along to the Polperro Festival; if you're in village any other time of year, potter along to the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing (aarrr): you may already know that both snuggling and fishing have their place in Cornish history…

There's loads more to see within easy driving distance from your hammock whether you want a secluded cove, popular surfing spot, the walks of the South West Coast Path or well-known Cornish attractions like the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both nearby.

Looe and Fowey, both harbour towns, are 10 and 20 minutes away respectively, Fowey via the passenger ferry from Mevagissey. At Looe, look for the trawlers on the quay (pic alert) and take a boat trip out from the beach to spy the sharks – you can hike the 12 miles of the South West Coast Path from here to Fowey if you fancy it...

Or get riled up at Adrenalin Quarry at Menheniot, 'throwing people off cliffs since 2009', where you can also zoom over the lake in a zipwire and take the Giant Swing ride – extra stomach possibly required.
