  • Top-end glamping accommodation at a manor house near Looe in Cornwall
  • A 10-minute drive to beaches; 15 to Polperro, 25 to the Eden Project
  • Games room, tennis courts and petting farm; seasonal produce available
It’s not often you get an entire – and really rather gorgeous – 400-year-old hamlet pretty much to yourselves, but that’s what life turns up at Tremaine Manor and Country Cottages. Set in peaceful farming countryside near Looe in Cornwall, this enchanting spot has private gardens, its own village green, a stream and duck pond. What more could you want? Glamping units furnished and decorated to the very highest standard? Yep, Tremaine has those. Tennis courts, a croquet lawn, putting green… yep. An indoor games room for rainy days? It’s a yes to that too. This fabulously family-friendly base also has a children’s play area with swings, slide, monkey bars and a sandpit – it’s all fenced off and completely private for the safety of your kids. Add into this exclusive mix the chance to meet and feed miniature horses, pygmy goats, chickens and guinea pigs and this really is a glamping destination of family dreams. If self-catering is the way for you, everything you need to cook up a feast is in the well-equipped kitchens, and you can plunder the manor’s vegetable garden for seasonal runner beans and peas or buy breakfast eggs supplied by the happy free-range hens.

Local attractions

It will be pretty hard to drag yourselves away from Tremaine, but Cornwall offers so much to explore. The historic fishing village of Looe (10 minutes’ drive) has a pretty waterfront to admire and kayaking expeditions out on to calm waters in the estuary, while a trip to Polperro (15 minutes) turns up shell-encrusted houses, seaside strolls and boats bobbing in the fishing harbour. In either place, you can while away the hours with pints of Cornish cider in seafront pubs. You can’t visit this corner of Cornwall and ignore the beaches, and there are rock pools to root around in at Lansallos, and a quiet horseshoe-shaped beach at The Bay, Talland (both 10 minutes). If walking is more your thing, jump on the South West Coast Path at either of these beaches to take in magnificent sea cliffs and sheltered bays. If you have time to take in some of Cornwall’s biggest-hitting attractions, head to the Eden Project (25 minutes) to meander around the rare rainforest plantings in the glass houses, while at The Lost Gardens of Heligan (45 minutes) there are madcap artworks and water feature aplenty to discover on ambles through the trees.
