  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site open to non-members, with member rates
Cornwall family holidays – sorted. Looe Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, about a mile and a half from the seaside village itself, is packed with things to keep all ages nice and busy. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to non-members as well as members. There are special member discounts available though, so make sure you select the correct rate when you’re booking. With distant sea views and a collection of conifers and flowering cherry trees around the pitches, this park makes a lovely place to relax for a few days. The pitches are nicely sized too, giving you plenty of scope to set up an awning, gazebo, barbecue and/or camping furniture to get your space just as you want it. Putting your feet up and enjoying the peaceful vibe is highly recommended, but there’s also plenty to keep you entertained should you feel like being more active. The outdoor swimming pool (usually open from late May to September) is a particularly popular feature, and there’s also a tennis court, a ball game area and a crazy golf course (please note you’ll need your own tennis racquets and golf clubs for these facilities). The essential amenities are all sorted too, of course – the site has a launderette, a chemical disposal point, an information room, a wifi connection and well-equipped bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby/toddler areas. A small supermarket and a fish and chip shop are within a 10-minute walk and Looe has plenty of places to shop and eat.

Local attractions

What to do in Looe? Well, there’s the working harbour, the beach, the rockpools and the seafood restaurants, of course. Beyond those, you may like to join a walking tour, visit the Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol or board a glass-bottomed boat – or perhaps head out on the South West Coast Path for the walk to Polperro (15 minutes’ drive if you’d rather take your wheels). This stretch of coast is packed with excellent walks, villages and beaches – Millendreath’s sheltered cove (five minutes’ drive), the craggy Rame Head (half an hour) and cute Fowey (40 minutes) are among the top picks. Inland, the Looe Valley offers up lots of lovely walks as well as places to visit like Looe Valley Vineyard (15 minutes). Family outings might take you to places like Adrenaline Quarry (15 minutes), Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary (20 minutes) or the famed domes of the Eden Project (half an hour). The museums of Plymouth (40 minutes) are another option – the National Marine Aquarium and The Box are particularly good choices for damp days.
