  • Glamping with stunning views from one of Cornwall's highest points
  • On the edge of Bodmin Moor; 40 minutes' drive to the Eden Project
  • On-site restaurant and bar with log fire and beer garden
At the edge of Bodmin Moor and up on Caradon Hill (one of Cornwall’s highest points), it’s no surprise to find that there are pretty spectacular views from Wheal Tor Glamping. Book a stay here and you’ll be able to admire them all day long if you like, from a collection of cosy units in the grounds of a friendly inn. As well as views of the rural scenery you’ll also be able to keep an eye on the neighbours – there are often sheep, ponies and cows roaming nearby. And if you’d like a closer look at any of this, you can get your boots on and head out on miles of footpaths and lanes directly from the property. Once you’ve explored thoroughly, it’s good to know that you can come back to a hot shower followed by a freshly cooked meal and a well-earned drink in the bar – it’s the kind of place that has a log fire going on cool days and tables out in the beer garden for sunny drinks on warmer ones. And if you can’t wait until dinner, coffee and cream teas are available in the afternoons… Of course, as you’re staying out in the open you may prefer to have a go at doing your own alfresco cookery instead – in which case, bring along whatever bits you like and get the barbecue going (there’s one provided for each unit). Other handy bits provided in each unit include bedding, heating, electric sockets and tea/coffee-making facilities. Shops are 10 minute’s drive away in Liskeard for any supplies you may need.

Wooden 1 bedroom cabin (pet friendly)

Liked: View. Clean toilet facilities.

Disliked: Broken bed. Not very clean (live insects in the bedlinen provided). Decking covered in animal faeces, would’ve been easy to hose off before guest arrival.

Wooden 1 bedroom cabin (pet friendly)

Liked: Leuke locatie met goed uitzicht. Vriendelijke gastvrouw & gastheer.

Wooden 1 bedroom cabin (pet friendly)

Liked: We had the best time. Everyone we talked to were so friendly and helpful. The chalet was warm and cosy. The fire pit was a big hit. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing. Breakfast the next morning was lovely too. The shower block was clean and lovely hot shower. Couldn’t fault it. The views are stunning. Definitely be back. Thank you Wheal Tor team.

Local attractions

Exploring the area should start out on Bodmin Moor, perhaps heading to places like prehistoric Hurlers Stone Circles or the cascades of Golitha Falls (both 10 minutes’ drive). There are lots of great walking trails around this part of the world, but if you need something a little extra to boost the experience, look into alpaca trekking with Moor View Alpacas (20 minutes). For alternative activities, get over to Siblyback Lake (15 minutes) for fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding and other watersports, or channel your inner adventurer at Adrenalin Quarry (20 minutes), where you can have a go at ziplining, axe-throwing and go-karting or bounce across the inflatable aqua park. Wheal Tor’s handy location puts it within easy reach of both Cornwall’s north coast, for days out at the likes of Tintagel Castle (50 minutes), and the south coast, where you can visit places like Fowey (45 minutes) or the Lost Gardens Heligan (an hour). Many of the county’s top attractions are easily visited too – including the famed Eden Project (40 minutes), where tropical biomes house plants from all over the world.
