A hideaway indeed. Gorgeous rural views at every turn, but also a setting handily placed for days out – it’s an all-round win for guests at Hideaway Huts, a farm glamping site 10 minutes’ drive from the little seaside town of Looe. This is a cracking Cornwall location, three miles from the coast and surrounded by hugely scenic places to walk, ride bikes or go fishing. The farm has a licensed riding school, so you can saddle up right there whether you’re a first-timer or a regular rider. Horses aren’t the only farm animals you’ll meet – goats, sheep and pigs also reside here, and they need regular feeding if you fancy lending a hand. The site’s chickens can be a tad temperamental, but if you’re lucky they’ll lay you an egg for a proper farm breakfast. On fine days, make the most of the sprawling space on site to play games in the field, bop a few balls around at the tennis court or see if you can get a kite aloft. The heated pool is a fab place to hang out on sunny days; an indoor beach (yes, a beach) awaits for those who won’t let dodgy weather curb their enthusiasm for a game of badminton or a bit of sandcastle construction. For eats, guests can stroll to the local pub in half an hour or so, or source supplies at the community shop a mile away for cookouts on their barbecue or firepit, swooshing it all down with cider from the local orchard. Each unit has a personal shower hut with a composting loo positioned a short walk away from the hut.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: > The bed was comfortable > Surrounded by countryside > Lovely eggs, apple juice and biscuits awaiting > Brilliant hosts/whole team > Log burner > Lovely set up in the little hut > Complete privacy > Your own shower and toilet > Little fridge by washing up area around 50 yards from your hut > Dog friendly > Complete quietness > Was access to a pool and sauna and doggy tie up/bath area > Honesty shop

Disliked: If we had to say something we disliked it would be the hot tub does take around 3 hours to get warm once you’ve got a fire going and topped up which is fine if it’s a warm evening just not the rain!

From the manager: Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thanks also for sharing your photos, the one of the sun rise is fantastic! Yes the hot tub is a bit slow to warm up sadly - we deliberately got the smallest tub that we thought would be comfortable for 2 people to minimise the volume of water that has to be heated, but I think that is just the nature of a wood fired hot tub. Thanks again for posting a review, best wishes from Andy and Holly

Hut was well designed, very cosy. Staff were friendly and very helpful

Local attractions

One couldn’t possibly come to this part of Cornwall and not take some time by the coast. Lovely Looe and its beach are a 10-minute drive away, or an hour’s amble along the banks of the Looe river. Pick up the South West Coast Path there for sea-view strolls or drive over to Whitsand Bay (20 minutes) for instruction in the art of being upright on a surfboard. Just outside Looe is Wild Futures, a monkey sanctuary that’s likely to be a hit with your own little monkeys. More wild beasts can be spotted at Porfell Wildlife Park and Sanctuary (20 minutes’ drive), while sea-dwelling creatures can be seen at the National Marine Aquarium 40 minutes away in Plymouth. And there’s a whole heap more too: how about touring the eco domes of the Eden Project (half an hour's drive), visiting Victorian Lanhydrock House (half an hour), finding the Lost Gardens of Heligan (50 minutes) or a scream of a day on the ziplines at Adrenalin Quarry (15 minutes)?
