  • Peaceful Cornish site 10 minutes’ drive from scenic sandy beaches
  • A 10-minute drive from Helston and 25 minutes from Penzance
  • Praa Sands and Porthleven within 15 minutes' drive
Do your family’s demands for hols hinge on proximity to shopping towns, whizzing rides and pristine beaches? Tick everyone’s boxes with a visit to Wheal Vreagh Farm, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Helston. The site is about 15 minutes from the edge of the scenic Lizard peninsula, putting plenty of stellar beach options including Praa Sands and Porthleven within easy reach. Porthleven is the nearer of the two, less than 10 minutes away, and is a top spot for paddleboarding and sea kayaking; further afield, sandy stretches at Polurrian and Mullion (both 25 minutes) have fishing and watersports, Porthkerris is 35 minutes away for diving and shipwreck scouting, and Newquay and Sennen Cove are about 45 minutes from base if surfing appeals. For salt-free hours, opt for a day wandering the small shops and pretty streets of Helston, home to the famed Furry Dance. After busy days, make a welcome return to the peaceful site, where unwinding and switching off is a simple matter of grilling up dinner on the barbie and basking in the quiet of the green and spacious grassy fields. Best of all? A washing-up area and launderette on-site mean there’s no need to spend hols dreading the pile of work that will await upon your return home…

Electric grass pitch

Liked We have just come home from a 10 day stay, camping. We received a message from Annette to introduce herself and say our pitch was ready. We were greeted on site and had our choice of pitch. We were given recommendations on what was around including using the park and ride for St Ives and to visit magic in the skies at Lands End which was amazing. The toilets and showers were always immaculate and so was the washing up area. We did make use of the laundry facilities again with no issues. Annette came round one evening to check all was ok and to let us know there was a weather warning in place and if the power went out they would get it back on as soon as they could. We were fortunate as we missed the weather front. We even had a little four legged friend a tabby cat come to visit us daily which the kids befriended and named him Max. We will definitely be back as it was such a relaxed and chilled few days.

Disliked It would have been nice to have a little play area. This didn't affect our stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Flat pitches, hot showers, spotlessly clean shower and toilet areas, very clean and decent size washing up facilities, clearly defined (and large!) pitches which each have a big wooden picnic table, friendly owners with great tips and advice, ideal location for going to lots of different areas of Cornwall and different beaches, washing machine and drier on site as well as fridge and freezer for ice pack swapping, peaceful and quiet- hardly any road noise. Can’t wait to come back! Best campsite we’ve stayed in!

Electric grass pitch

Liked The pitches were huge. Lovely clean toilets and hot showers.Fridge and freezer available for you to use.Stunning night skies as its so dark. Saw lots of shooting stars and satellites. A laundry room is also available. Owners are really attentive.Wifi kept dipping out. So meant plenty of family time and no tech.

Disliked You have to use a car to get anywhere.Everthing seems so far away.Wifi wasn't great as you are out in the countryside.( Daughter wasn't impressed)

Electric grass pitch

Liked Beautifully maintained campsite with fantastic flat spacious pitches. Accommodated our camper van with a large awning. Wooden picnic table also included. Annette the owner is lovely and showed us to our pitch.
Showers are hot and powerful with clean modern toilet facilities.
Wheal farm is in a great spot for exploring Cornwall with Praa sands beach only 15 minutes away.
The site was extremely peaceful, relaxed and quiet. All other campers were very respectful of each other which made for a great stress free stay.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Wheal Vreagh and would definitely return. Thank you so much Annette for a great stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Wheal Vray Farm camping is a quiet, well equipped site approx 3 miles to the west of Helston. The pitches are nicely maintained with electric hook-ups. Toilets, showers and washing up facilities are central to the pitches and spotless. Choice of beaches a short drive in either direction from Helston. Plenty of choice of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes and supermarkets in Helston
Highly recommend, Patrick Parkes

Local attractions

A 10-minute drive from the coast and the South West Coast Path, the site is well placed for scenic rambles along wild Cornish coastline. Particularly spectacular views are to be had in and around Marazion, where a glance seaward casts eyes on the stunning St Michael’s Mount (reachable at low tide along a causeway from the mainland). That’s far from the only must-visit coastal spot hereabouts either: it’s a 45-minute drive to Land’s End, England’s most westerly point, for plenty of photo opps and a Cornish cream tea – that’s jam, then cream, people – before heading homeward. Keen historians may be drawn to the grandiosity of the ruined but sprawling Godolphin House and Gardens, five minutes away, while budding horticulturists should smell the roses at Glendurgan and Trebah gardens (35 minutes), Trewithian Gardens and the Eden Project (both about an hour). Town time can be spent wandering cobbled streets in pretty St Ives, exploring gardens, galleries and museums in Penzance (and boat trips to the Scilly Isles), or clambering around Henry VIII’s Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, all within about half an hour of the site.
