General

  • Peaceful Cornish site 10 minutes’ drive from scenic sandy beaches
  • A 10-minute drive from Helston and 25 minutes from Penzance
  • Famed Praa Sands and Flambards theme park within 15 minutes

Do your family’s demands for hols hinge on proximity to shopping towns, whizzing rides and pristine beaches? Tick everyone’s boxes with a visit to Wheal Vreagh Farm, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Helston.

The site is about 15 minutes from the edge of the scenic Lizard peninsula, putting plenty of stellar beach options including Praa Sands and Porthleven within easy reach. Porthleven is the nearer of the two, less than 10 minutes away, and is a top spot for paddleboarding and sea kayaking; further afield, sandy stretches at Polurrian and Mullion (both 25 minutes) have fishing and watersports, Porthkerris is 35 minutes away for diving and shipwreck scouting, and Newquay and Sennen Cove are about 45 minutes from base if surfing appeals.

For salt-free hours, make a high-octane day of it on the rides and coasters at Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes from the site), or opt for a day wandering the small shops and pretty streets of Helston, home to the famed Furry Dance.

After busy days, make a welcome return to the peaceful site, where unwinding and switching off is a simple matter of grilling up dinner on the barbie and basking in the quiet of the green and spacious grassy fields. Best of all? A washing-up area and launderette on-site mean there’s no need to spend hols dreading the pile of work that will await upon your return home…

    Very spacious pitch
    Peaceful place
Very clean (very important with the Covid-19)
    Friendly owner
    Good wifi and free access

    To improve:
the bins area could be isolated (also, on another camping we had sanitiser distributor)
the little local were you have the visitor pack and the fridge / freezer would need a good clean and to be better sign and arranged
Gravel on the way can be very noisy when a car is coming back in the evening or when you walk on it .
Bins in the women sanitary would need to be bigger as it is only two small ones and with all the used wipes sometimes it could be not enough.

    Everything was lovely.
Hosts greeted us on arrival and gave us good information of local area and places to visit as well as tips to visit locations avoiding the pricy parking.
The shower block was very clean and fresh with plenty of space, as was the washing up area.
The pitches are very large which gives a private feel when cooking and eating.
Overall lovely, well looked after and tidy campsite with good access to many lovely places.
Won't be booking anywhere else but here when we visit again!

Amazing Site, our Cornish base for any future trips12/09/2020

Fantastic site, lovely big plots with own bench - plenty of space for our Moho, awning, etc. Toilet/shower block probably the best we have seen, well thought out as they are spacious and also spotless. Min once a day walk around by the owners, both really engaging and had some good chats with them. Hired a car for the day from the owners, we've not done this before on our trips but with a fairly large Moho and the Cornish roads/lanes we found this really gave us a larger leash of freedom to explore.
We enjoyed it so much that we have booked to go back in a few weeks time, hiring a car for a week and using this as a base for us to explore around Cornwall - by the way, absolutely stunning coastline nearby.
This is now our go to place in Cornwall - loved it !

Local attractions

A 10-minute drive from the coast and the South West Coast Path, the site is well placed for scenic rambles along wild Cornish coastline. Particularly spectacular views are to be had in and around Marazion, where a glance seaward casts eyes on the stunning St Michael’s Mount (reachable at low tide along a causeway from the mainland).

That’s far from the only must-visit coastal spot hereabouts either: it’s a 45-minute drive to Land’s End, England’s most westerly point, for plenty of photo opps and a Cornish cream tea – that’s jam, then cream, people – before heading homeward.

Keen historians may be drawn to the grandiosity of the ruined but sprawling Godolphin House and Gardens, five minutes away, while budding horticulturists should smell the roses at Glendurgan and Trebah gardens (35 minutes), Trewithian Gardens and the Eden Project (both about an hour).

Town time can be spent wandering cobbled streets in pretty St Ives, exploring gardens, galleries and museums in Penzance (and boat trips to the Scilly Isles), or clambering around Henry VIII’s Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, all within about half an hour of the site.

Must see

  • Flambards (3.7 miles)
  • National Seal Sanctuary (5.6 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (6.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Godolphin (1.4 miles)
  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (3.2 miles)
