  • Family-friendly farm campsite 20 minutes’ drive from Helston, Cornwall
  • Flambards Theme Park 20 minutes’ drive; Kennack Sands 15 minutes
  • Animal feeding; organic ice cream; restaurant; live music in summer
Small, family-run and very family-friendly with lots of animals nearby, Roskilly Camping is a low-key farm site tucked away in south-west Cornwall, 20 minutes’ drive from Helston. Despite its remote location, there’s masses to do round and about, like exploring the farm ponds and feeding the gentle Jersey cows in the neighbouring fields. The campsite has large grass pitches in a well-maintained field surrounded by mature Cornish hedges. Spotless loos and showers, a small communal area with washing-up and waste disposal are available too. No need to worry about catering for the kids, as there is a restaurant serving up locally sourced food all day long – as well as organic ice creams and sundaes made from milk produced by the aforementioned Jersey cows. In summer, things really get going with live music from local bands. But back to those animals; cows, chickens, goats, pigs and geese can all be fed by hand – surely a favourite with the kids? Just ask the site owners and they’ll organise a session for you. And looking further afield, there are loads of sandy beaches and pretty seaside villages within 15 minutes’ drive.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The staff at the restaurant were fabulous, so kind, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely and the music on Monday evening was a really nice end to our break. Ice cream parlour was amazing! The facilities were clean and toilets were never without soap or toilet roll. The site itself was a really decent size which meant you didn’t feel like anyone was right on top of you… Being able to see the animals was really lovely. Really lovely touch being able to charge your device via the USB points in the washing up area especially as this was a completely non electric site.

Disliked: The showers were clean but water flow and temp was a major problem if both cubicles were in use at the same time. It would’ve been helpful if there was more than one sink for washing up as at peak times there was a big queue. No signal at all most of the time and no wifi. Would of been really helpful/useful if restaurant had wifi available to use.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Peaceful, spacious pitches. Good shower pressure Restaurant and ice creams on site Village pub and shop 10 mins walk SW coast path 20mins walk. Lovely area to visit.

Disliked: Fluctuating shower temp due to push button not staying on more than a few seconds. Only 1 sink for whole campsite which was also the only cold water drinking tap. Sink hot water did not last long at all. No chemical waste disposal.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Spacious level grassy pitches, not over crowded. Lovely that picnic benches are located by the pitches too! Good toilet and shower facilities and the sheltered communal area with washing up area is well equipped with charging station & freezer too and bins for recycling and general waste. Lovely to be able to use the roskillys cafe just across the road, there was live music in the evening which was great, and the kids loved being able to visit the farm animals several times during our stay. There are lovely walks you can go on too & coverack beach is only a short drive and dog friendly too.

Liked: This was one of the best sites I have stayed on. I feel almost reluctant to promote this site as I would happily keep it a secret. The facilities were brilliant even a great place to eat. I would highly recommend this camp site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: What a nice surprise. Very quiet campsite and easy access to the fabulous restaurant at Roskilly Farm. Was worried about being a bit windy and exposed, but plenty of large hedges to tuck into giving the campsite a calm feel. Basic pop up camping facilities .. but very clean and up together.. nice toilets & showers. Covered area with fridge, chargers, kettle, seating etc.. easy access to loads of great little bays and beaches in this area of the lizard.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: the positives include a usb plug in area in the kitchen sink shelter and a large freezer, however the other guests had filled it with beer so there was no space for us.

Disliked: We were very excited to try camping at Roskilly’s with its promise of pristine toilets, it sounded ideal. Upon arriving, we followed the signs to a field next to the car park which was the camping area. There was no way to check in so we just pitched up, we didn’t see anyone representing the campsite during our stay. The grass was thick, previous cuttings left and turned to moosh, the ground was very rough and full of holes. The toilet block consisted of 2 filthy toilets which I can’t see were cleaned in the time we were there, the sinks were disgusting and adjoined to the toilet so made impossible to clean teeth. There was a bar of soap which seemed very unhygienic and turned to a bar of moosh in the sink. There were no towels or dryer to dry hands. The hand wash area was so bad that we ended up cleaning our hands in the general kitchen sink used for washing up, kids couldn’t reach either sink so we had to brush our teeth in the field. It literally felt like camping in a field. We spent 3 days and 2 nights there, paid over £66, of which £10 was for a dog (there was nothing there for the dog, not even a bowl of water, so I’m unsure what I paid £10 for)? The hot water lasted about 30 seconds so we were washing up in cold water. The bins only hold 1 black bag for the entire site. For a new campsite it felt extremely basic and overpriced. I wouldn’t stay again unless changes were made, specifically to the toilets and sorting out the ground. Such a shame and clearly just money making at that price for what you actually get. Very unhygienic and I don’t know how it would cope with more visitors. Such a shame as with a bit more thought of the customer it could have been lovely.
