  • Modest family-friendly site just outside the Lizard Heritage Coast
  • Walking distance from Gweek’s boatyard and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary
  • Café, pub and shop in the village, 5 minutes' walk away
Grab your family gang and get on down to Gweek Campsite, an environmentally-friendly site just outside of Cornwall’s Lizard Heritage Coast. It’s a modest affair here, best as a base for families, but you won’t be short on things to do, because Gweek village is under 5 minutes’ walk away and its boatyard is a buzzy little place, with canoeing and paddleboarding trips available and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in the village to see seal pups. As you can tell, Gweek is an attraction in its own right – it's at the highest point of the Helford estuary and it’s a fine place to dine on some proper food. The pub serves food and there’s a café and shop too, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding most supplies. There are more handy places within five miles of the site, beginning with Helston’s supermarkets (10 minutes’ drive) and a health food store. There’s especially alluring food in the Potager Garden (10 minutes), which has a plant nursery and workshops. Then, there’s the RNAS Culdrose Public Viewing Area (five minutes) to watch aircrafts making their rounds. There are hot showers on site, which is particularly convenient for rinsing off after a day spent at one of Cornwall’s beaches – there are several within 15 minutes’ drive of the site.

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Simply a perfect campsite. Was the best camping trip we have been on. The site is glorious and the whole ethos of the site is so refreshing and uplifting. It is truly remarkable. Will definitely be returning and will be the site we always come to when visiting Gweek!

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Clean toilet abd shower block. Wildlife friendly with constant bird song

Disliked: For dog owners, beware the three cars that prowl to top of the site.

From the manager: Thanks for review. I've been confused about the cars comment (I towed trailer load of soil to top field? Perhaps you meant the neighbour's cats).

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Size of the campsite and firewood available to buy on campsite

Disliked: The only hot shower that was broken most of the stay, so was forced to use the "backup shower" which was made in an unfinished shed with no light a massive hole in a wall covered by old radiator, surrounded by rubbish and junk Also there was no dog park

From the manager: Hi Martyna. Things do occasionally break unfortunately but I take your comments on board and will probably make a 2nd hot shower for next year in case one breaks again - (despite that one shower having been steady for 3 years! The "Wim Hof" dedicated cold shower will have to go). By the way, the temporary backup hot shower was in an area which is NOT part of the campsite! It was offered as a private favour until original shower was repaired. Anyway, the new part arrived yesterday from abroad (hence not a "same day" repair) and was fixed early this morning before you left. I've cleared up all the waste wood you left lying around your pitch now - so everything is back to normal. In August, the campsite is basically sold out - so it was an unfortunately busy time for the shower to break for you and all the others - who seemed to just about cope with the inconvenience. Hope you had a safe drive back. Adi

Very good peaceful, clean campsite, options for all types of camping.

Tipi

Liked: So peaceful! Plenty of space, with a few things to help the children play and relax, really loved the planted areas of sunflowers etc in the camping field. The tipi we stayed in was excellent quality, very comfy bedding mats and plenty of space for a family of 6 plus a dog.

Tiny House microlodge

Liked: What a fantastic spot, we had a lovely time on this site. The Tiny House is really comfy and well equipped. The loos are conveniently located and the showers are hot. This small site was perfect for our autistic 9yo who was able to make friends with other children (bigger sites with gangs of kids are too much for him). It's also invaluable to be able to bring your car right up to your site. Adi gave us a warm welcome but the owner's presence was very unobtrusive. A chilled out site. The van with free chargers/ fridges etc is wonderful for those in tents.

Disliked: Did not dislike anything at all, we had a lovely time. The walk to the village is very manageable although a foot path would be great. The raised slab step inside the entrance of Tiny House, around the wood burner, is a slight trip hazard and we put a towel down so as to remember to step around it.

From the manager: Thanks very much! Hope to see you all again. FYI: Tiny house is discounted in the quieter months (Eg: March, April, Oct, November).

Tiny House microlodge

Liked: I had a wonderful experience at Gweek Campsite. The cozy cabins were exceptionally clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable environment for a relaxing getaway. Inside the cabin, I was pleasantly surprised to find modern amenities such as a refrigerator, oven, gas stove, and an electric kettle. The kitchen was fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, and all the necessary tools, making it incredibly convenient for cooking meals. One highlight of the trip was the option to have a barbecue – all I needed to bring was a disposable charcoal tray, which made the whole experience hassle-free. Being just a little over half an hour's drive from Penzance, it's conveniently located while still offering a serene escape from the city. I had the pleasure of spending two delightful evenings at the campsite, and it truly was a fantastic experience. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with all the comforts of home, Gweek Campsite is definitely worth considering.

Local attractions

Cornwall does wild and sublime well, and with fishing and tourism so key to the area, you won’t be far off many of Cornwall’s top attractions. It all comes down to how far you want to go. Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes' drive) is particularly close by for all manners of rides, and beaches are all about, including the sandy Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach (15 minutes), surf central Kennack Sands (20 minutes) and the particularly pretty Kynance Cove (half an hour), managed by the National Trust. With connections to the Celts, legends and other histories, Cornwall’s not short on history either. For one, Pendennis Castle (half an hour) has war weapons displayed at its splendid spot looking out over the coast. While you’re that way, dive into Falmouth (25 minutes) – in the literal sense, as diving activities are available here, or there’s snorkelling and sailing to keep to the surface. For some more dramatic views, Trebah Garden (20 minutes) delivers on this front. This sub-tropical garden by the sea is particularly splendid. Of course, there’s Lizard Point (25 minutes) too – as the most southerly point in England, it has properly good views and coastal walks galore.
