Calloose Caravan Park: Multi sports court

General

  • Family-friendly site with lots to do for all ages
  • Dogs welcome, with a dog-walking field on site
  • Heated outdoor pool, paddling pool, playground and games room

Ever felt you really wanted to let loose? And – even better – let the kids run wild while you bask on a sun-soaked terrace in a suntrap valley, sipping a cocktail from the on-site bar? Why, one can almost hear the ice cubes clinking from here…

Don’t get uptight at the thought of Cornwall being crowded in peak season: award-winning and family-friendly Calloose Caravan Park is over eight and a half acres of countryside at Hayles near St Ives, and is designed for those who want to get away from the hordes. And for dogs: the park is dog friendly with fields on site for walkies. Woof.

The park is teeming with things to do: freewheeling sprogs are free to do what they want any old time, with a kids’ paddling pool, playground, multisports and all-weather court, and a games room with pool table, driving and shooting games and gift machines.

Naturally the grownups are smartly catered for too: as well as the spacious sunbathing terrace, non-kids have a heated pool, a bar, a coffee shop, a restaurant, a takeaway and shop for the essentials, and – although the youngsters won’t be interested – a launderette, recycling point opposite the shop and chemical waste points at each toilet block.

The Calloose team prides itself on its customer service and attention to detail, and the entire park is also carefully landscaped to welcome local wildlife and flowers – even the most Xbox-gripped youngster might be persuaded to let loose…

Please note

Facilities/activities including laundry room are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The restaurant is open between 25/05 and 14/09.

The grocery shop is open between 27/05 and 14/09.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 27/05 and 14/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The games room is open between 27/03 and 30/09.

Limited opening hours for the restaurant apply during low season. The bar/restaurant is open selected hours or days in low season and high season from 6.30pm until 11pm.

Entertainment and activities are available between Easter and Spring bank holiday and 17/07 to 31/08.

The bar and restaurant are open daily and with a full menu from 23 May to 30 May and 24 July to 31 August. During all other dates they are open weekends only and with a limited restaurant menu.

The best facilities, hands down, of any site I have ever been to. They rival (if not exceed) that of most hotels! 5* showers, toilets, washing up area. The heated pool feels like a bath, amazing bar, play area and games room. Brilliant!

    Disliked:

The shop! Such a brilliant site with 5* facilities and the shop feels like it should be on an abandoned industrial estate. Practically no stock and falling apart, real shame as lots of potential and it would have been nice to be able to buy more from the site rather than having to travel.

I know it was the end of the season but the shop could have been more well-stocked and open during day. You were asked to phone if there was no-one there, which we did, but got no response.

Park was clean and tidy and well kept.

    Disliked:

Showers could benefit from some basic heating, and no way of cleaning the shower cubicles before using.
We had Sunday dinneralthough this was really good the staff Seemed more interested in their own dinners than Offering a dinning experience, we finished our main and waited for the plates to be cleared we would then have ordered pudding, after 15 minute waiting we left without pudding. Saying this the staff were friendly and chatty

Local attractions

Pack your wetsuit, your swimsuit, your walking boots and your glad rags to soak up the contrasts of beautiful and active Cornwall, with most of the main attractions within easy driving distance; and eye-watering scenery, coastline and teeny towns and villages all within reach.

You might want to throw your golf clubs and fishing gear into the car boot or caravan too: there are five spectacularly scenic golf clubs within ten miles of Calloose, from the challenging seaside course of the West Cornwall Golf Club three and a half miles away, to England’s most southerly course, Mullion Golf Club at Helston.

Fishing holidays are available all over and easy to arrange, including coarse and reservoir fishing (the rainbow trout-filled waters of Tree Meadow Trout Fishery are just half a mile from Calloose), and sea fishing from a hi-tech boat which can detect passing shoals as well as possible shipwrecks below the surface. Or venture west to the 140 or so islands of the gorgeous Isles of Scilly by ferry from Penzance or air from Penzance or Land’s End to see the capital St Mary’s or the world famous gardens at Tresco.

The beaches of Cornwall are rightly world famous and you could spend your whole hol around the cragged beauty of the north or the subtropical sands of the south. Calloose is centrally based, so pick a beach a day and work on your tan: the Towans at Hayles, three miles of golden sands, are 3.4 miles away; the surf of Praa Sands within six miles and Porthkidney/Lelant beach within seven miles (we strongly recommend some mussel foraging here).

Elsewhere within a quick drive you’ll reach beautiful Marazion – take a trip from here to the island of St Michael’s Mount – and the family-friendly surfing beaches of Portleven and Portreath.

St Ives, Cornwall’s arty capital, is just over nine miles from Calloose: the acclaimed gallery Tate St Ives to see almost 70,000 works of art from 3000 artists, including the national collection of British art. Nearby Newlyn is also known for its art and its 19th-century off with a visit to the Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, carved from the clifftop and with the feel of a Roman amphitheatre.

Must see

  • Cornwall Industrial Discovery Centre (6.1 miles)
  • Tate St Ives (6.1 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (6.1 miles)

National Trust

  • Godolphin (2.3 miles)
  • Godrevy (4.4 miles)
