  • Family-friendly glampsite on a working organic farm
  • A five-minute drive from Stithians Reservoir and 20 from Falmouth
  • Farm shop with Cornish produce and firewood; breakfast on request
Fancy hols full of idling about green pastures, strolling along sandy stretches and diving into Cornish history? There’s no gilding of lilies here – that’s exactly what you’ll get at Fleur de Lys, a family-friendly glampsite 20 minutes’ drive from Falmouth. Between the Lizard Heritage Coast and the Roseland Heritage Coast, the site’s in a particularly pretty spot, which makes settling in for lazy days close to home base as easy as pie. This is a working organic farm, so expect to meet free-range sheep, pigs, horses, chickens and ducks walking and waddling around, and keep an ear out for the telltale buzz of honey bees too. When it comes to food, there are few better places to stay than a farm, and no one will be disappointed here. There’s a farm shop on site where fresh eggs are always available and there’s loads of other produce for sale (as well as firewood for campfires next to pitches), plus the site team will sort breakfast for guests on request. If leaving the site for a few hours becomes a necessity – even the nicest spots can lead to cabin fever eventually – it’s not too far to a complete change of scenery: trade fields for bucket and spade at the nearest beaches, 20 minutes away in Falmouth and Porthleven.

Local attractions

Active types will be busy hereabouts: the site’s a five-minute drive from the vast Stithians Reservoir, where the area’s reputation as one of England’s windiest is made the most of with sailing and windsurfing lessons, as well as kayaking, canoeing, zorbing, walking and biking. Not up to all that? It’s a good spot for fishing too, and there’s a café when a break from that breeze is needed. A jaunt into Falmouth is a must for visits to the gallery and the National Maritime Museum, as well as a stop at Henry VIII’s summer gaff, Pendennis Castle. It’s also a jumping off point for whale and dolphin watching trips in Falmouth Bay, if that floats the family’s boat... Budding botanists should plant themselves here and never move again – other than to wander to the many nearby gardens, of course. The site’s within 20 minutes of Trebah Garden, Glendurgan Garden and Trelissick, and the Eden Project is a little under an hour away if interest in flowers is still growing. Kids rowdier than a bag of cats and local beaches not doing the job? Famed stretches at St Ives and Newquay are within 40 minutes, and Rollers Roller Rink, Player Ready Virtual Reality Arcade and the rides and attractions of Flambards Theme Park are within 15 minutes.
