Countryside setting and family-friendly atmosphere

  • Family park set over 50 acres on a hilltop overlooking Widemouth Bay
  • A short drive from the surf schools and beach at Bude
  • Free heated pool, free wifi, clubhouse, kids' club and bar
Free! The price of zilch is what you’ll pay to keep the kids happy at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park a few miles from Bude, which is bound to result in wide-mouthed grins for all concerned... This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

What customers say

This park offers a fantastic location close to beaches, with many visitors praising the friendly and helpful staff. Families particularly enjoy the entertainment and on-site activities. While many find the facilities clean and well-maintained, some mention they are dated and that pitches can be sloping. Issues reported include noise from other campers and, for some, a long walk to amenities. Despite some drawbacks, many would return.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Check in service was very good, customer service was great in general, all questions got answered.

Location was on the hill so the view was amazing with the sea not far from you.

Water point was close enough and power point was convenient.

Security was one of the best on site, always seeing them around, they were super helpful and friendly too.

Disliked Toilet was average and dated, only few showers on the older block and we queued for ages then it was no water. We had to go to the newer block with 3 showers to queue again. With the size of this camp site, definitely need more facilities.

Entertainment was ok but the queue at the bar was so long. Same for the food, 90 mins waiting time for burger and chips. Show was over by the time food arrived.

Swimming pool was so dirty and packed! Signs said no jumping into the pool but lots of jumping in, said no ball game but lots of kids playing ball games. It’s too small to have all these activities. Safe guard was very uninterested to care. Also lots of dead flies and hair when you swim. Gross.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Large pitch size
Stunning views
Good for kids riding bikes

Disliked The toilets are dirty,
showers are cold
entire site on a hill so be prepared to roll
Out of bed regularly.
Large hill to walk from Clubhouse/pool/arcade to top.
Can only book swimming at reception day before, if at the top long way down.
Food was not great in the clubhouse. Arcade games shocking.
Went to play bingo but it’s cash only so we couldn’t.
Crazy golf, old and tired and again all on a slope.
Pool was ok but not the best
Park not the safest child flew off as design meant went to fast ( he is 9)
The worst part was the toilet blocks were emptied (which I appreciate has to happen) but it was done over lunchtime 12-1 and the entire upper site smelt like a slurry pit so bad that my child threw up and meant we couldn’t eat out our camper and had to leave site. Perhaps consider timings of this being done.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Sea view from afar

Disliked Toilets disgusting in arrival poo on top of toilet, Shower dirty never cleaned, I’ve seen cleaner toilets at kids football training grounds, when I complained I was told it’s the dust off car park. (Funny the site in currently staying at same stones, toilet shower block spotless) again staff miserable, at one point turned back when complaining, this also shows lack of care for campers.
Pool looked disgusting didn’t use for that reason, little shop on site staff miserable and rude. Food awful and expensive for quality.
None of pitches flat, ok in caravan, but the tent users I felt sorry for as 10to15 degree slopes. When the could made pitches flat by stepping down.
Put it this way if this mad been my first caravan or camping holiday I’d be put off for life..
Wi-Fi rubbish

For site this size toilet/shower block needs to be cleaned regularly, for whole week I never saw one cleaner. Never known it on any campsite I’ve been on before, you almost get to know there names you see that often

Local attractions

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
