General

  • Family-run park a mile from the A39 and Devon border
  • 10 minutes' drive from Bude for beaches, surfing, golf and riding
  • Restaurant and bar for hot meals, drinks and cream teas

Jam first, pile the cream on top, then scoff the lot – that’s the Cornish way to prepare your scone. It’s useful to have this info to hand if you’re staying at The Red Post Inn, as they serve up a fine traditional Cornish cream tea here, and you’ll no doubt be wanting to do it justice.

They’ve had a wee bit of practice at such things, too, as there’s been an inn at these crossroads, four miles from Bude, since the 9th century (with the mission statement ‘to feed and water the weary travellers passing this way’ – sounds promising for those arriving after a long drive). Not in the mood for a sweet treat? No problem – the restaurant also sells hot meals (eat in or take away) and has a fully licensed bar.

In between feeds, there’s much to do around the locale – take a wander around the country lanes, perhaps, fish or birdwatch at Tamar Lakes, or head over to Bude for beaches, surfing, golf and horse riding. Being only five minutes from the A39, it’s also pretty straightforward to get to a whole heap of attractions across Cornwall and neighbouring Devon (Padstow and Dartmoor National Park are both around an hour away, for starters).

Back at base, all is kept straightforward but comfortable – spacious pitches, separate men’s and ladies’ toilets and showers, a chemical waste disposal point, a launderette, and a playground to keep the nippers suitably amused.

Nice quiet site good facilities, comfortable bar for drinks on an evening, really good food, excellent Sunday Roast dinner, pleasant staff, recommended.
    Thank You

    Disliked:

Local Bus Transport not very regular and last bus far too early, not a fault of the camp site, this issue is common throughout the county, Cornwall Council needs to get their act together.
Do not see why the camp site asked for extra money for my tow car, as we were in a motorhome? what's the difference with a caravan and car?

Lovely quiet campsite, we could put the car at the front of the caravan (read you couldn't) so that was great. I would normally book somewhere with more facilities but it had a lovely little play area laundrette and a pub that served amazing food. The showers were super powerful but couldn't change the temp. It's the perfect base campsite. Would definitely stay here again if coming this way.

Disappointed not to be able to have evening meal due to the restaurant being fully booked. Our fault for not anticipating the need to book ahead for a midweek meal.

Local attractions

From this handily located spot, a mile from the A39 and the Devon border, you’re well placed for all manner of visits and activities. If you don’t fancy the drive, there are a couple of bus stops just outside the inn for journeys to Bude, Barnstaple, Exeter and Plymouth.

Staying in Cornwall, it’ll take you half an hour or so to drive to the Arthurian Tintagel Castle, 45 minutes to get to the pretty fishing village of Port Isaac, and an hour or so to feast on fresh seafood in the restaurants of Padstow or wander in the biomes of the Eden Project. Those with tiddlers in tow might like to cross into Devon for a day at the Big Sheep farm and amusement park.

Closer to home is Bude, four miles away – a hub for surfers (and wannabe surfers), where visitors can also ride horses through the waves, play a game of golf with smashing sea views or relax on the fine sandy beach.
