General
- Family-run park a mile from the A39 and Devon border
- 10 minutes' drive from Bude for beaches, surfing, golf and riding
- Restaurant and bar for hot meals, drinks and cream teas
Jam first, pile the cream on top, then scoff the lot – that’s the Cornish way to prepare your scone. It’s useful to have this info to hand if you’re staying at The Red Post Inn, as they serve up a fine traditional Cornish cream tea here, and you’ll no doubt be wanting to do it justice.
They’ve had a wee bit of practice at such things, too, as there’s been an inn at these crossroads, four miles from Bude, since the 9th century (with the mission statement ‘to feed and water the weary travellers passing this way’ – sounds promising for those arriving after a long drive). Not in the mood for a sweet treat? No problem – the restaurant also sells hot meals (eat in or take away) and has a fully licensed bar.
In between feeds, there’s much to do around the locale – take a wander around the country lanes, perhaps, fish or birdwatch at Tamar Lakes, or head over to Bude for beaches, surfing, golf and horse riding. Being only five minutes from the A39, it’s also pretty straightforward to get to a whole heap of attractions across Cornwall and neighbouring Devon (Padstow and Dartmoor National Park are both around an hour away, for starters).
Back at base, all is kept straightforward but comfortable – spacious pitches, separate men’s and ladies’ toilets and showers, a chemical waste disposal point, a launderette, and a playground to keep the nippers suitably amused.
