Cornish Coasts Caravan and Camping Park: Cornish coast

General

  • North Cornish site with views to Devon's Lundy Island
  • Five miles from Bude
  • Immaculate amenities including free hot showers

Coo, cop a look at these Cornish coast views… Cornish Coasts Caravan and Camping Park is, not surprisingly, on the Cornish coast (the north side), but from this four-acre site you can also see across to Devon’s Lundy Island and you're only about half an hour away from that county’s coast too (yes, the north side as well). Beaches? Less than five miles away at the handsome little town of Bude.

Small and friendly Cornish Coasts is one of the oldest established parks in the area, so the owners know what’s what for making guests tick and ensuring they return year after year. You might also reckon that site owners who say they take pride in the cleanliness of their toilets and showers will tick all the right boxes too, as will new and improved features on site: the amenities block has power that which provide lashings of free hot water all day.

The site added a café and a farm shop in 2017 which is open from 8am to 8pm daily. As well as local produce, it sells essentials, camping accessories and booze; there’s also an ice pack freezing service and Calor and camping gas for sale. Other (very clean) amenities include a launderette, baby changing facilities, covered dishwashing area and a chemical waste disposal point. Hairdryers are available too, so you can look your best in those Cornish Coast photos.

Site is family friendly, cafe and farm shop are excellent. Extremely clean

    Disliked:

Bathrooms at top of site are dated and could do with upgrading. That said impeccably clean and always hot water. We did pay for two vehicles and a pup tent, which site wasn’t aware of. It meant we had to leave one vehicle in car park by the cafe. We were on a corner plot, but the people next to us had pitched quite far over, meaning we didn’t have as much room as we should have done. It was also difficult to put just one vehicle beside the tent.

From the manager...

Hi Jane, thank you for your review. We are glad you found the site to be family-friendly and very clean, which we pride ourselves on. We were aware of your booking of a pup tent and extra vehicle but when you checked in I could not remember individual bookings so please accept my apologies for this. Our pitch sizes are approx 10x10 but I appreciate the large tent, van, pup tent and vehicle was abit tight. It was half term/jubilee weekend so we were fully booked and had it been any other time we would have tried to move you. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced and hope to see you another time.

    Clean toilets and showers
Pitch size good and well maintained.
    5 minutes from Widemouth bay
Good well stocked shop and cafe

    Disliked:

Pitch was on an incline so sliding down the tent
Road nearby very noisy from early on in the morning
Bright security light on all night from the main building
Booed with electrify point but only electricity available was on a caravan trailer plug

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and we are glad to hear that you thought the site was well maintained which we pride ourselves on, but sorry to hear that there were some things that didn't quite hit the mark for you. We do try to make clear our location, and that there may be some slight traffic noise for our campers, but we feel that we have a great position for access along the north coast which makes up for this and we get lots of return visitors. In respect of our security light, we will discuss this within the team to see what can be done to minimise any impact for future campers. Lastly, regarding the electrical hook-up, I am unclear what you are referring to as you did book an electric pitch and our records show you were on a pitch with electric. Nothing was raised at the time so I am unable to investigate now but did you bring a hook up lead with you? If you want to follow this up direct please do get in touch so I can understand this better. With many thanks, Karen

Local attractions

You could spend your entire hol on the sands and in the sea if you were so inclined: the long bay and miles of sand of Widemouth Bay are three miles away from Cornish Coasts for surfing, rockpooling or stretching out on golden sand; Bude is five miles away, and Summerleaze, Sandymouth, Crackington Haven and Crooklets are within 10 to 15 minutes’ drive.

If you’re new to the surf, this area has a good handful of surf schools to show you the ropes; if you prefer to stay on land, the South West Coast Path runs alongside Poundstock, the village nearest to Cornish Coasts.

Going along the coast towards Newquay, the medieval fishing village of Boscastle, eight miles from Cornish Coasts, is a popular tourist spot, probably best known for its handsome harbour and National Trust visitor centre in its old ‘pilchard palace'. Also the stuff of legends, Tintagel and its King Arthur associations are three miles along the coast from Boscastle: climb up to Tintagel Castle high on the coast for tales of Arthur and some seriously stunning views across the water (you should be able to see Lundy Island from here too).

Going into Devon, take the kids to new heights at the Milky Way Adventure Park in Bideford; the town is also where you can catch the ferry to lovely Lundy Island.

Must see

  • Tintagel Castle (11.0 miles)
  • Rock Beach (21.7 miles)
  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (22.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Tintagel Old Post Office (10.9 miles)
