Cerenety Eco Campsite: View from the breakfast café

General

  • Serene and green eco camping over seven acres, a mile from Bude
  • Within easy walking distance of beaches, shops and pubs
  • Animals, veg garden, wildlife pond and forest garden

There are many excellent reasons why Cerenety Eco Campsite is such an excellent place. But any small sorts you have along with your on your Cornish hol will likely only care about one: the number of friendly rescue animals roaming around this friendly and laidback Bude setting.

A former racehorse (who came last in every race as he was more interested in the crowd) is here to meet and greet, along with chickens and alpacas, tortoises, a dog that gently herds the site ducks, and cats so friendly that guests threaten/beg to take them home. And more; you'll meet most of them during your stay at the animal feeding sessions six days a week in season and on weekends out of season (or at any time if you let the human team know in advance).

A huge amount of other first-rate things are on offer at this off-grid, peaceful and back to nature site: you may, for example, care to amble around the living willow tree seats, driftwood archways and upcycled furniture, play chess on the giant tables, or spy species around the wildlife pond…

Or you could potter around the forest garden – and try your hand at creating your own – or just find your own peaceful place for lazing among the grass. Just off site, a hidden beach is five minutes' walk away, Bude Canal is two minutes' stroll and Bude town is just over a mile.

Guests can pick herbs, fruit and veg at the vegetable patch and forest garden.

Solar-powered showers and compost toilets are also on site.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Peaceful campsite; clean facilities; lovely surroundings; nice walk along canal to Bude beach.

    Disliked:

Expensive for what is a basic campsite without electric (we paid £54 per night for a campervan with awning, 2 adults, 2 children)
Most pitches on a slope (you need chocks for a van)
Toilet roll not provided. Composting toilets might not be for everyone.
Some areas of campsite looking tired/dated - shop/cafe not open.

This was my second visit to Cerenety and it was equally pleasurable as my last visit in 2021. The site is well managed; basic but has all the right amenities for an eco-friendly and low carbon camping trip. The site is family-friendly and quiet.

It's a 15 minute walk to the coastal path, or 15 mins to Bude canal going the other way. I recommended a circular walk along the canal to the town centre, then up to Compass Point for watching the sun set. A return walk along the coastal path through Upton makes an hour's walk.

The toilets, showers and washing up area are kept clean and Candy (site owner) is around to help with any queries. Solar heated showers are great and the composting toilets are well managed.

Convenience of the site for the town. Plenty of nice routes to walk from the site.

    Disliked:

The phone number to call on the reservation is wrong. Some areas around the toilets/washing up area could so with some updating and maintenance. However, if you treat this as one of the sites quirks then its easy to ignore this.

I liked this campsite a lot and the concept is right on point.
The open space, the composting loo’s and the back to basic sides of things is just what we as a family love.
The animals are a highlight, and the location is right on point. Ideal to get onto bude, and walk the canals.
Lovely spot for us in our camper van. Candi was so lovely, and even helped my other half have flowers delivered to my van.

    Disliked:

There was no hot water sadly when we wanted showers or too wash up, and there was only one little light in the shower area Of the toilet block which made the bed time bathroom Visits a little tricky. Nothing a few more solar panels wouldn’t fix.
It was all a bit tired sadly.
