  • Family-run farm site
  • A mile and a half from the beaches and town centre of Bude
  • Animals to feed and a shell craft studio on site
If you're staying close to Cornish beaches, you might want to do something with your seashells. Such is the state of affairs at Atlantic Camping near Bude, a site so family-friendly it's set up its own shell craft studio for small (and big) sorts to craft their foraged shells into ornaments or use them to decorate bits and pieces like pots, mirrors and picture frames. Atlantic Camping is a family-run farm site set within 26 acres of farmland, a mile and a half from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall's Bude. The farm entrance is set directly on the Atlantic Highway (the A39, the main road past Bude) so is easily accessible to all vehicle types, but the site part is set well back from the road on the other side of the farm: no traffic noise here. The planted-out pitches are set among two and a half acres of well-mown grass, with a climbing frame and ball game area for the kids. Atlantic Camping is home to chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep and alpacas; families are welcome to walk around the farm, or to take one of the walks straight out of the farm to local farm tracks and onwards. Amenities include a washing-up area with four sinks, and a toilet and shower block with six showers and seven toilets, including a disabled toilet and one with baby-changing facilities. The pubs, restaurants and attractions of Bude town centre are a 20-minute walk from the farm: bring a torch if you're coming or going at night.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nicely laid out site, nice surroundings, easy access

Disliked: Toilets and showers need upgrading, one pot wash could benefit from a canopy instead of standing in the rain if the other one is in use, asked to change pitch told returning guests request certain pitches so no!!! No one occupied the pitch while we were there!!!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Easy access to the town. Toilets were clean. Staff were friendly and let us choose pitches.

Disliked: Not a lot to dislike. I guessing the toilets would not be nice in the colder months at there’s no heating.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Large pitch

Disliked: Toilet/shower and dish washing facilities. Had to keep waiting for shower floor to drain, before turning on water again. Floor feels like it is going to collapse any minute. Got drenched washing up because the sinks are in the open air. Woken up at 1 am by someone pitching their caravan on pitch next door. Should not have been allowed. His car alarm went off twice. How this was allowed I don’t know . Because the grass was wet he was wheel spinning. I have never known a site allow this. Will not use site again

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite was well maintained and each site had trees to give privacy between you and your neighbours. We had no issues whilst camping in our T5. The shower/toilet facilities were fine (as the site website states they are basic but clean). Lots to do nearby and walked into Bude a couple of times via different routes, especially enjoyed the walk by the canalside. Had a great stay at Atlantic Camping and hope to return.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: I was a bit worried when I saw some of the review but Atlantic was absolutely fine. Pitches are lovely. Separated by palm trees and plenty of space. Washer/dryer on site for a charge. Yes the toilets and showers are rustic! But they don’t charge and there’s hot water. 30 minutes walk into Bude which is beautiful. The sea pool is worth a try. And our dog loved it too. We found the owners pleasant as well.

Disliked: Bit more tlc for amenities but Nothing really

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Pitch sizes, palm trees

Disliked: Where to start, the showers/toilets were a hut/shed not enough for size of campsite, the most unhygienic campsite ever....showers were dirty with rust shower caddy. Toilets had sinks but no where or option to dry hands. Septic tank for toilet and waste disposal had no water supply to rinse out with hence people using drinking water tap!! Wouldn't be hard to have better water supply, proper shower/toilet facilities for a basic campsite the amount they charge! Didn't see a member of staff all week.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice clean site.

Disliked: Toilet & shower huts, they were mixed sex, no hot water or facility to wipe your hands in toilets, not that private either. My partner was showering and the persons water that was showering in the next wooden hut was running through to his!!! It states 20mim walk to Bude it is more like 40mins and very limited taxi service. Only 2 taxi working on the Sunday and they were fully booked.

Local attractions

The beaut beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine. The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling. In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings – including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps, a pint, lunch or pasty before tackling the local stretch of the also-famed South West Coast Path, from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…? Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too: ask the Atlantic Camping team for its top tips.
