General

  • Family-run farm site
  • A mile from the beaches and town centre of Bude
  • Animals to feed and a shell craft studio on site

If you're staying close to Cornish beaches, you might want to do something with your seashells. Such is the state of affairs at Atlantic Camping near Bude, a site so family-friendly it's set up its own shell craft studio for small (and big) sorts to craft their foraged shells into ornaments or use them to decorate bits and pieces like pots, mirrors and picture frames.

And the kids might like the menagerie in the adjacent field too. Greeting – and feeding – the chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep, three alpacas and a donkey all living right next to the site are usually a big hit with small guests: just ask a member of staff for feed if you want to dispense dinner.

Atlantic Camping is a family-run farm campsite, set within 26 acres of farmland, a mile from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall's Bude. The farm entrance is set directly on the Atlantic Highway (the A39, the main road past Bude) so is easily accessible to all vehicle types, but the campsite part is set well back from the road on the other side of the farm: no traffic noise here.

The planted-out pitches are set among two and a half acres of well-mown grass, with a climbing frame and ball game area for the kids. Amenities include a washing-up area with four sinks, and a toilet and shower block with six showers and seven toilets, including a disabled toilet and one with baby-changing facilities.

The pubs, restaurants and attractions of Bude town centre are a 20-minute walk from the farm: bring a torch if you're coming or going at night.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Could do better 30/06/2018

    Quite and easy to find

    Disliked:

I looked all over this site and only found 4 toilets and 3 showers in one block not 7 and 6 as stated. I also found a bathroom hidden behind a laundry room but there were no signs directing anyone to this and nothing wrote on the door. There were very few signs telling you where anything was and I found no shop of any description basic or other wise.
If you have a camper or caravan with your own toilet and shower and your looking for peace and quiet this would suit you. I have stayed on sites similarly priced with better facilities. Anyone who camped here and liked it must have very low expectations.

I liked that you spread everyone out so they have there own space. Toilets and showers were clean. I also loved the detailed email you sent before we arrived. It meant we didn't need to speak to anyone when we got there.

Found this gem of a site whilst looking on the Atlantic highway, glad we did, we stayed for 4 nights and loved the peace and quiet the open space, my dog loved it and he made friends with the sites dog. Love the privacy with the bushes between pitches. Toilets and showers very clean. Added bonus WiFi. Lovely people who run it very helpful. Liked it that much we going again this weekend, this is our new place to stay. We even asked for same pitch and got it.

Upon arrival the site looked pleasant however this was short lived there is no marked reception I ended up walking round till a lady came out of the house she said we were pitch 3 however this was already taken, she then said go on pitch 4 for tonight we said we had 2 nights she said it’s ok if anyone else shows up I’ll put them some where else.
There was no shop on sight although it says there is when asked where the shop was we were told they don’t stock up in winter (it wasn’t winter)
There was no farm like advertised just a few aggressive chickens when asked if they still had the donkey etc was told no it died not surprised nothing seem very well looked after.
There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for women an the same for men.
Would not recommend this site to anyone and defiantly won’t be going back

From the manager...

We are set in a small farm. There are sheep in the field as you drive down the lane, there are chickens, ducks, and geese in the field next to the camping field, there are Alpacas, a sheep dog, cats and often kittens.

Very sadly, Noddy, our donkey did die after many years. Our chickens are not pets, I can only imagine the guest has chosen to foolishly enter their field and frightened them.

We have made Pitch up aware of this and are surprised that Pitch up have made the decision to continue to publish this review that contains defamatory remarks regarding the welfare of our animals.

Local attractions

The beaut beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine.

The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling.

In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps, a pint, lunch or pasty before tackling the local stretch of the also-famed South West Coast Path, from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…?

Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too: ask the Atlantic Camping team for its top tips.
