Atlantic Camping: Overview of the site

General

  • Family-run farm site
  • A mile from the beaches and town centre of Bude
  • Animals to feed and a shell craft studio on site

If you're staying close to Cornish beaches, you might want to do something with your seashells. Such is the state of affairs at Atlantic Camping near Bude, a site so family-friendly it's set up its own shell craft studio for small (and big) sorts to craft their foraged shells into ornaments or use them to decorate bits and pieces like pots, mirrors and picture frames.

Atlantic Camping is a family-run farm site set within 26 acres of farmland, a mile from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall's Bude. The farm entrance is set directly on the Atlantic Highway (the A39, the main road past Bude) so is easily accessible to all vehicle types, but the site part is set well back from the road on the other side of the farm: no traffic noise here.

The planted-out pitches are set among two and a half acres of well-mown grass, with a climbing frame and ball game area for the kids. Atlantic Camping is home to chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep and alpacas; families are welcome to walk around the farm, or to take one of the walks straight out of the farm to local farm tracks and onwards.

Amenities include a washing-up area with four sinks, and a toilet and shower block with six showers and seven toilets, including a disabled toilet and one with baby-changing facilities.

The pubs, restaurants and attractions of Bude town centre are a 20-minute walk from the farm: bring a torch if you're coming or going at night.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The grocery shop is open between 01/06 and 01/09.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Some amenities may be restricted according to demand at the beginning and end of the season; this includes the on-site shop.

The site has facilities for biodegradable toilet chemicals, but unfortunately not for blue chemicals.

It was a lovely site, but they are very strict. Don’t like groups after 8, and complained at 8.01pm when we was a group! And then very strict after 10pm! To the point you feel you need to whisper.

Each pitch is separated by palms and other plants, which provide shelter and privacy, as well as looking beautiful! Clean site with an area to play ball games.

    Disliked:

We were told to be in our tents by 8 and no noise from 10. Which was abit harsh considering we were on holiday and not particularly being noisy, no complaints from neighbours. Also annoyed that the quiet nature of the site wasn't stated when booking, only in an email 2 days before arrival.
There are animals that wonder the site (3 cats, one is flea covered and a dog that poohs where ever and goes through any bag left outside your tent).
The site has a huge wasp problem, they are everywhere onsite by the pitches, toilets, washing up facilities, we were unsure why unyil when playing a ball game our family disturbed a wasps next and were stung multiple times each.
We were stunned that the site manager did not show any concern about the situation - nest or stings, let corden off the area. We ourselves told other families that it was there and to be careful.

The pitches are spacious and well laid out. The toilets and showers were clean and checked by the site team several times a day. It had a little park for the kids. Really close to everything you need to have a good time away.

There was alot of wasps as there was a nest in the hedge by the playing field.

Local attractions

The beaut beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine.

The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling.

In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps, a pint, lunch or pasty before tackling the local stretch of the also-famed South West Coast Path, from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…?

Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too: ask the Atlantic Camping team for its top tips.
