  • Small, friendly site on Bodmin Moor, 25 minutes' drive from Bodmin
  • Half an hour's drive from south coast beaches and Eden Project
  • Peaceful location for walks, stargazing and wildlife-watching
Stargaze by night and take on cycling routes, mountain climbs and moorland hikes by day… at Bodmin Moor Camping, you won’t be short on things to do in the outdoors. Indeed, this simple, back-to-basics site is right on the Bodmin Moor and 25 minutes’ drive from the town of Bodmin when it’s time for eating out, shopping or going behind bars in an 18th-century jail museum. With such a remote and peaceful location, splendid rural views are a given, but you’ll be far from cut off. The site has easy access to all sorts of Cornwall attractions and activities – the Eden Project and the south coast are both around half an hour’s drive away, and it’s about a 45-minute drive to the north coast for visits to Newquay, Tintagel and Port Isaac. Closer to home are bike rides on the Camel Trail and other quiet cycle paths, fishing at Colliford Lake and Bodmin Moor hikes including climbs up Brown Willy (nine miles away). Outdoorsy time on site might involve getting a blaze going at the communal firepit (with a stack of wood provided), exploring the site’s woods and stream or looking out for the deer and badgers that often pass by. A distinct lack of light pollution often leads to some excellent stargazing after dark, too.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (no pets)

Liked A peaceful place but a short wheelbarrow push away! Marvelous star gazing.

We stayed for just one night but would really recommend as a no frills place to pitch up.

There is also a bell tent for hire here if you fancy a bit more comfort.

Disliked Nothing to dislike at all.

Liked Lovely remote spot on Bodmin, the owner was lovely and took our stuff down and up to the site on the quad as it's quite a steep access to the site. Had the place to ourselves and was very chilled would visit again!

Camping pod

Liked If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city this is the perfect place for you. The owners Richard and Jenny are very kind and nice people, after a few minutes of conversation you already know that you have come to the right place. The cottage is well equipped, there is a comfortable double mattress with bedding, a small sofa, a table with two chairs. There is a beautiful view from inside. Outside the cottage there is a garden table with chairs, a fireplace, a wood bin and a shoebox. Equipped a dozen metres away, there is a private small kitchen equipped with a coffee machine, toaster, kettle and sink. There is also a bathroom behind the door. I sincerely recommend this place.

Local attractions

It’s tricky to run out of places to ride your bike around here, and there’s something for the mountain biking fans among you too, because the Cardinham mountain bike trails (10 minutes' drive) have runs for beginners and pros and Woody's Bike Park (35 minutes) continues the adrenaline-induced cycles – so carry on with shredding up the trails. For a little less of the land and more of the water, Newquay (45 minutes) will let you take the steering wheel (or paddle) on your chosen watercraft or spend a day at the beach. And for more waterside scenery, Colliford Lake (10 minutes) has plenty on that front. Historical places, yes please… go for walks around the woods of a Victorian country house at Lanhydrock House (20 minutes) or spy on the shore from the Tintagel Castle (45 minutes), which is on its own island out to sea. Look into an old slate mine in the Carnglaze Caverns (15 minutes) and when you’re done with those history book pages, you could turn your attention to the slightly more futuristic rainforest biomes at Eden Project (half an hour) – with whizzes down the zipwire on-hand for those adventurous sorts.
