Bodmin Moor Camping: Pods on site

General

  • Small, friendly site on Bodmin Moor, 25 minutes' drive from Bodmin
  • Half an hour's drive from south coast beaches and Eden Project
  • Peaceful location for walks, stargazing and wildlife-watching

Stargaze by night and take on cycling routes, mountain climbs and moorland hikes by day… at Bodmin Moor Camping, you won’t be short on things to do in the outdoors. Indeed, this simple, back-to-basics site is right on the Bodmin Moor and 25 minutes’ drive from the town of Bodmin when it’s time for eating out, shopping or going behind bars in an 18th-century jail museum.

With such a remote and peaceful location, splendid rural views are a given, but you’ll be far from cut off. The site has easy access to all sorts of Cornwall attractions and activities – the Eden Project and the south coast are both around half an hour’s drive away, and it’s about a 45-minute drive to the north coast for visits to Newquay, Tintagel and Port Isaac.

Closer to home are bike rides on the Camel Trail and other quiet cycle paths, fishing at Colliford Lake and Bodmin Moor hikes including climbs up Brown Willy (nine miles away). Outdoorsy time on site might involve getting a blaze going at the communal firepit (with a stack of wood provided), exploring the site’s woods and stream or looking out for the deer and badgers that often pass by. A distinct lack of light pollution often leads to some excellent stargazing after dark, too.

The setting was beautiful very peaceful. The bell tent was very spacious and comfortable

    Disliked:

The toilet was a bit high from the ground, would have been nice to have a step to rest your feet on. Solar shower was lovely but needed a screen and it to be a higher position to get the flow coming down the hose.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review. We are working on a better position for the shower and will certainly add a step!

Great location and well presented and kept tipi. Everything we needed and all clean and tidy and comfortable. The area was beautiful and perfect for what we needed. Great BBQ and fire pit for cool nights

    Disliked:

Solar shower provided but nowhere to use it. Not a problem but would have been nice to have an area to shower.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review and feedback. We are now in the process of making a dedicated area for the solar showers. Come back and see what you think sometime!

It was absolutely beautiful and very quiet and secluded. Everyone was so pleasant and easy to get along with. I mentioned the trip was for a birthday and they made it extra special. Thank you so much for letting us stay there for a couple nights. I loved how eco friendly everything was, how it seemed like we could escape from the real world for a little bit. -Highland cows were nearby and so chilled when you drive pass them.

Great location that was off the beaten track, but only a 15 minute motorbike ride from Supermarkets and nice pubs.
Lovely simple campsite with friendly animals (horses, goats, chickens).

We were blessed with great weather at night for stargazing, and having fire-pits for campers to use was great :)

Owner was very helpful and kept in touch about our stay.

    Would definitely reccomend

Local attractions

It’s tricky to run out of places to ride your bike around here, and there’s something for the mountain biking fans among you too, because the Cardinham mountain bike trails (10 minutes' drive) have runs for beginners and pros and Woody's Bike Park (35 minutes) continues the adrenaline-induced cycles – so carry on with shredding up the trails.

For a little less of the land and more of the water, Newquay (45 minutes) will let you take the steering wheel (or paddle) on your chosen watercraft or spend a day at the beach. And for more waterside scenery, Colliford Lake (10 minutes) has plenty on that front.

Historical places, yes please… go for walks around the woods of a Victorian country house at Lanhydrock House (20 minutes) or spy on the shore from the Tintagel Castle (45 minutes), which is on its own island out to sea. Look into an old slate mine in the Carnglaze Caverns (15 minutes) and when you’re done with those history book pages, you could turn your attention to the slightly more futuristic rainforest biomes at Eden Project (half an hour) – with whizzes down the zipwire on-hand for those adventurous sorts.

Must see

  • Eden Project (11.8 miles)
  • Tintagel Castle (13.7 miles)
  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (14.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Tintagel Old Post Office (13.1 miles)
  • Lawrence House (13.8 miles)
