General

  • Small, friendly site on Bodmin Moor, 25 minutes' drive from Bodmin
  • Half an hour's drive from south coast beaches and Eden Project
  • Peaceful location for walks, stargazing and wildlife-watching

Bodmin Moor Camping is a simple, back-to-basics site on Bodmin Moor, 25 minutes’ drive from the town of Bodmin.

It’s a secluded and peaceful location with splendid rural views, but one that also gives easy access to all sorts of Cornwall attractions and activities – the Eden Project and the south coast are both around half an hour’s drive away, and it’s about a 45-minute drive to the north coast for visits to Newquay, Tintagel and Port Isaac.

Closer to home are bike rides on the Camel Trail and other quiet cycle paths, fishing at Colliford Lake and Bodmin Moor hikes including climbs up Brown Willy (nine miles away). Outdoorsy time on site might involve getting a blaze going at the communal firepit (with a stack of wood provided), exploring the site’s woods and stream or looking out for the deer and badgers that often pass by. A distinct lack of light pollution often leads to some excellent stargazing after dark, too.

Such a cosy & clean space, the bottle of prosecco was such a lovely touch and Jenny was a great host. We loved saying hi to all of the animals too! You have your own separate little washing up and shower space which was amazing.
There’s no WiFi which I think is great, it’s off grid and I love that aspect. We did get phone signal so we could map out the area when needed though.
There is a fire pit and bbq for use but sadly we got rained off from the storm, will definitely come back in dryer weather :)

Peaceful area, outdoor seating, camping fire and bbq near the pod, animals on site such as alpacas, able to use facilities such as kitchenette and shower room. Pod well furnished and came with extras such as blankets, chargeable lights and plates, bowls cups etc.

    Disliked:

The pod did not have electricity (we were made aware of this before visiting). A suggestion would be to have some electricity installed in the pod for a small TV to be provided at the end of the bed to watch at night after a long day out exploring Cornwall.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. A TV would certainly have been useful with the weather you had! Unfortunately installing electricity is rather difficult where the pod is located. Hopefuly next time you will have better weather and you can enjoy the campfire and night skys!

Super nice and peaceful, really appreciated the firewood and starters as a lot of places will charge for it. We were alone in the field (covid) which is our personal preference anyway! At night all you hear is the stream and various wildlife. Beautiful skies for stargazing. Thanks guys :)

Jenny was more than accommodating and was extremely polite and friendly. She was especially patient when waiting for us to collapse our seemingly difficult tent and reassured us that she was happy to transport our stuff to the top of the hill upon departure. The accommodation itself was easy to locate with no problems regarding the post code on the sat nav and views and surrounding areas were stunning and tranquil with only the gentle noise of the stream flowing nearby. The compostable toilet remained clean and well presented with easy from across the field.

    Disliked:

A bit of a trek to the pitch due to a steep hill but made easier when the quad bike become accessible.

We really enjoyed our stay at Bodmin Moor Camping. Richard greeted us and showed us around, introducing us to the various animals pottering everywhere. Due to Covid we had a whole field to ourselves in which to pitch our tent. It was right at the bottom of the site next to a stream and was really secluded and quiet. We also bought some delicious eggs from Jenny as she was herding the hens up for the night! The location itself was really easy to get to and a good base for day excursions, as well as a nice walk straight from the campsite over the moor.

Pod was secluded so we weren't disturbed by anyone. It was very clean, with kitchen stuff and a sofa to make our stay more comfortable. The private shower room was clean and the shower hot. We had a long, comfortable sleep in the cosy bed. The usb lights were sufficient to read by. The camp fire was great and we had a little bbq too. It was wonderful meeting all the animals and the hosts were excellent. Could not recommend more.

Absolutely loved every bit of this place, from being welcomed by Jenny and Richard upon arrival, to washing in the stream. It's a beautiful secluded location and we were the only ones there. Its far enough away from everything that it's so peaceful, but close enough to shops and towns that you're not completely cut off from the world. You can see the resident alpacas, chickens and horses and have a campfire with wood provided. The composting toilet is clean and well kept and there is a fresh drinking tap on site. Surrounded by woodland and fields with a nearby stream, it's the perfect place to switch off

Jenny, the host, was very friendly and helpful with great communication prior to arrival. The site is very clean and perfect for that ‘wild’ experience with the luxury of a composting toilet and running cold water. The fire pit and wood store were well located and a great end to the day. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t brilliant but that’s the nature of the beast. Take wellies or wet shoes as the grass is wet, whether from rain or dew. Although it is a short walk (approx 150m) from between car and pitch, Jenny lays on a quad bike taxi service for your luggage (and small child if you ask nicely). Plenty of animals to keep the kids entertained including Alpaca. Great location, would definitely recommend this site, thank you
