  • Simple pitches on the edge of the village of Hassocks
  • A 20-minute drive/train to Brighton; South Downs walks from site
  • Good site for car-free travel: train station 10 minutes' walk away
Looking for a countryside break without needing a car? Have a look at Ham Camping – this lovely site is on the edge of the West Sussex village of Hassocks, less than 10 minutes’ walk from its train station. That location means that you can easily get here on public transport from London, and/or take day trips to Brighton without the need to find parking (if you do want to drive down to Brighton, it’s about a 20-minute journey). You can also walk into the village in about 15 minutes for pubs, supermarket supplies and takeaways. Getting around on foot is a good option for days out too – a footpath runs directly from the site, and there’s plenty more to explore in the nearby South Downs National Park (with bus services available from the village if you want them). That said, this is also a good option for those with a car as the main A23 is just a mile or so away. What you’ll get on site is a spacious pitch in a flat and well-maintained 12-acre field that’s been divided into two sections: a quiet camping area and a family area where kids can feel free to play games and make a bit more noise. Facilities here are simple, with just portable toilets provided, but you’re allowed to light barbecues and campfires and there are firepits to hire (with logs available to buy on site).
