  • Spacious pitches at a 260-acre Surrey estate near Cranleigh
  • A 15-minute drive to Winkworth Arboretum; 40 minutes to the coast
  • Fishing and social club on site; profits support local charity
A holiday for yourselves, and you get to do good for others at the same time? It’s a win-win situation when you stay at Springbok Campsite, part of a secluded estate on the border of Surrey and West Sussex. The estate is run as a charity that provides accommodation and support for former seafarers, and any profits made by the campsite will be fed back into providing services for the residents. Concerned you may have to sacrifice certain facilities in order to support this worthy cause? Not a bit of it – this is a lovely site that’s part of a 260-acre estate made up of farmland, forest and formal gardens. You’ll be able to take walks around at your leisure, perhaps stopping in at the pretty walled garden or picking up a day pass for some fishing on the one-acre lake. Dog-friendly pitches here are spacious and fuss-free, and have access to basic shower and toilet facilities, plus a camp kitchen/washing-up shack. Guests are also welcome to stop in for a drink at the on-site social club. Barbecue evenings at your pitch are permitted too, if you’d like – there are shops 10 minutes’ drive away in Cranleigh for all the bits you’ll need. (Please note that barbecues must be raised off the ground and disposed of responsibly once they have cooled down.) If a country walk and pub are musts on your rural break, you’ll be pleased to hear that both are on hand – in fact, you could combine both with a stroll to one of the hostelries within a 30/45-minute walk. For other outings nearby you’ll have a choice of heading north to the Surrey Hills, west to the South Downs National Park or south to the coast (about 40 minutes away).

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked The site, friendly staff and residents. Loved the area and grounds

Disliked The toilet block is dated and had no heating. The washing up area had blocked sink. Cleaning could be improved

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Paul for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We are really pleased you enjoyed the site, the area and found our staff and residents friendly - that means a lot.

We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the toilet and washing up facilities. We are sorry about the issue with the blocked sink during your visit. Unfortunately this was caused by another camper disposing of food waste in the sink. Once our Estates Team were made aware, the issue was resolved.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked 1. Quiet, on the whole.
2. Pitch fee goes towards the Seafarers Charity, on which the land you are using
3. Electricity is included in the price
4. Hard standing pitches are well kept
5. Shower has hot water.

Disliked 1. Shower/toilet block ( one shower and two toilets in male block) approx 60 to 150 metres away from your selected pitch. No heating and a bit basic. Clean but tired
2. One drinking water fill point, right by one pitch. The grass was very wet and muddy so you get muddy footwear when filling. Sadly the hose pipe had been left in the mud so had to clean the end before using and the hosepipe itself was muddy, getting muddy hands when holding it. The EHU for two of the pitches is also next to the water and means it's very muddy too.
Drinking water area really needs some form of paving to address the issue of very muddy, boggy ground.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the quiet setting, well-kept pitches, included electricity, and hot showers, and we’re grateful that you appreciated your pitch fee supports our Charity.
We also thank you for your constructive feedback. The shower and toilet facilities are located a short walk from some pitches, and while they are kept clean, we acknowledge that they are basic and showing signs of age. Plans are underway for future improvements.
Regarding the water supply, we would like to clarify that there are two additional drinking water points around the campsite, which are not affected by mud. These are available for guests who prefer easier access, particularly during wetter weather. That said, we understand your frustration regarding the muddy conditions around the water point you used, as this is not the standard we aim for.
Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back in 2026 and to demonstrate the improvements we are working towards.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked A fantastic place to stay in a lovely rural setting. Quiet and relaxed. Lots of oportunities for walking within the site and woodland walks direct from the site. Friendly locals that we encountered whilst walking with the dog. Also met Lenny who guided us ariund the property and clued us up on other amenities such as ordering a cooked. breakfast and roast dinner in the main house if required. The Japanese walled garden was outstanding even in winter and i can not wait to return in tge springtime. We had to cut our break short as there was a major incodent at our hone.We definately plan to return.

We are happy to see that you was able to explore the walks on the site and surroundings woodlands. Our residents are lovely and Lenny is wonderful, he is always more than happy to help our guests when they come up to the house.
Our Gardeners are doing a fantastic job of the grounds and the Japanese and Walled Gardens look amazing.
We was sorry to hear that you had to leave early and hope you get back to see us again soon. A visit in the spring is highly recommended as the surrounding woodlands are full of bluebells and springtime flowers.

Local attractions

If you like a good garden visit on your break, you’ve come to the right spot – it won’t take long at all to reach the likes of the National Trust gardens at 121-acre Winkworth Arboretum (15 minutes’ drive) and Nymans (35 minutes), with woodlands, a lake and natural play areas. The colourful Ramster Gardens (15 minutes) and pretty Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (35 minutes) are certainly worth adding to the list too. If you’ve brought the kids along, a trip to Fishers Farm Park (15 minutes) may well be on the cards for tractor rides, mini golf, treetop trails, pony rides and lots of animals to meet (plus indoor play areas in case of dodgy weather). You might also like to see the big birds at Surrey Hills Falconry (20 minutes) or hit the beach in Worthing (40 minutes). No kids in your party? A day at Denbies Wine Estate (35 minutes) might appeal instead then – you can sign up for tours and tastings here, and there’s a lovely restaurant too.
