  • Spacious family-friendly and dog-friendly village site in Kent
  • Walking distance from watersports, fishing lakes and off-road cycling
  • Five pubs, tearooms and shop a short walk away; walking trails nearby
From river activities and fishing lakes to off-road cycling and some proper scenic walking trails, Nightingale Camping is a family-friendly wild camping retreat in a scenic Kent village, where three rivers meet - The Medway, Beult and Teise - within walking distance to many outdoor activities. A five-minute walk away from Yalding village centre, you'll be able to jump right into walks, watersports (including canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding), fishing lakes or off-road cycling routes for all ages and abilities. Having welcomed visitors for over 25 years and recently re-opened, this site is a peaceful place for a break (pets welcome too) with portable toilets and drinking water on site. The team on site offer free charging for your gadgets and batteries, and there's also no charge to refreeze ice packs. Nearby there's space in the local area’s fields and woods for kids to let off steam or for dogs to be walked off-lead. Site staff have also planned routes for walkers and cyclists to help you scout out the paths and refreshment stops along the way… and if you get too lost, they can always come and find you. Handily, the site is also close to several splendid Kent vineyards and within an hour’s drive of great wildlife parks and centres. As for the foodies, well, there are many friendly eateries within walking distance – including five pubs, village tearooms on the high street and a handy village store five minutes’ walk away with food, booze and other missing bits from your luggage.

Local attractions

Get into shopping mode in Maidstone (15 minutes' drive) or Royal Tunbridge Wells (25 minutes), a historic spa town. If you’re in the mood to keep things high-energy, Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (25 minutes) has outdoor activities and a Go Ape course, while Bewl Water (25 minutes) takes activities onto the water, with watersports and an aqua park. Historic places are in plentiful supply too… Leeds Castle (25 minutes) runs falconry displays and The Historic Dockyard (40 minutes) has a Cold War submarine on show. The 14th-century Scotney Castle (20 minutes), Sissinghurst Castle Garden (half an hour) and Canterbury Cathedral (55 minutes) are other historic places waiting to be ticked off… Further out, you might want to track down the sublime beaches on the Kent coast (around an hour), vintage rides at Dreamland Margate (an hour and 10 minutes) or London’s big lights (an hour and 15 minutes). Top wildlife centres include Kent Life (20 minutes), a heritage farm park, and the 600-acre Port Lympne Reserve (50 minutes), but there are plenty more further out.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very peaceful and well kept site. Portaloos were spotlessly clean. Easy access to shops, pubs, restaurants and canals. Karen was very welcoming. It was perfect to take our grandson on his first camping trip. He loved the space to run around play football and sat out looking at the stars at night.
