  • Peaceful family-friendly site on a working farm in Kent’s High Weald
  • A 5-minute drive from Cranbrook and the start of several walking paths
  • Country store and farm shop on site; barbecues and campfires allowed
In need of a getaway full of peace, quiet, scenic walking trails and spectacular towns and villages? How about something a little more adrenaline fuelled? Or maybe you’re after something in between… Whatever you’re looking for, Star Field Camping and Glamping – a family-friendly site on a working farm five minutes’ drive from the small town of Cranbrook in Kent – has it covered. There are plenty of trails nearby for anyone who likes a good amble: several loop walks start in Cranbrook, leading through the High Weald countryside around the town, and there are plenty of trails through the nearby Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest. For more activity than you’d get from a sedate walk through the woods, try ziplining, tarzan swings and treetop adventures at Go Ape in Bedgebury, go kayaking or paddleboarding at Adventure Activities Sussex, or get your adrenaline pumping at Arena Pursuits, all less than 20 minutes from the site. Back on site, pick up supplies from the country store and farm shop, pile the barbecue high for dinner, then kick up your feet by the campfire to unwind. Want someone else to do the cooking? There are lots of restaurants within 10 minutes' drive.

Local attractions

If you haven’t got your fill of countryside exploration from your walks, hire an e-bike in Biddenden and follow some of the recommended routes, one of which takes you to the local vineyards and lets you sample the vino at Hush Heath Estate and Kent’s oldest vineyard at Biddenden. To see part of Kent under someone else’s steam, head to Tenterden to climb aboard the Kent and East Sussex Railway steam train, and soak in the views from the carriage as you travel the hour-long route from Tenterden from Bodiam. While in Bodiam, take a trip to the spectacular moated Bodiam Castle, a 14th-century medieval castle with a ruined interior. If that’s whetted your appetite for history and stately homes, you won’t find yourself at a loss – wander the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle, take a look around the Victorian manor house at Scotney Castle and take some time to smell the roses at Pashley Manor Gardens, all within 20 minutes' drive. For one last look at the countryside, seek out a new perspective: treat yourself to a pleasure flight over Leeds Castle, Camber Sands, Dover Docks, Tenterden, Rye and Canterbury at Headcorn Aerodrome, 20 minutes from the site.
