General

  • Scenic location in Elham Valley seven miles from Canterbury
  • Barbecues allowed
  • Dogs welcome

Ever been to the Elham Valley? It's a right pretty part of the North Downs, made up of a chalk valley and set between Folkestone and Canterbury: the 22.5 mile Elham Valley Way is right pretty and right recommended too.

If you're seeking a stay around these parts (also recommended, to put up tired feet), have a look at Goldpark Leisure right in the valley and surrounded by the striking scenery for which the valley is renowned. It's about seven miles from Folkestone and Canterbury and less than ten from Dover's white cliffs, or you could go on further adventures as it's also only 12 miles from the Channel Tunnel...

The site has an amenities building with a toilet and shower room also suitable for disabled guests, a washing-up area and a reception with helpful info on the local area.

Leave the car behind once you get here: the bus stop outside the Goldpark Leisure gate has services stopping at it to take adventurers to both the Kent cities nearby. If you do want to drive, there's easy access from the site to the M20 and the A2.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Basic but very satisfactory campsite near the beautiful village of Elham. Plenty of electric pitches (we were staying in a camper van) on a fairly busy, but spacious enough field (and level!), a well-organised layout, and basic but fine toilet, shower and washing-up facilities. A warm welcome from Mark the manager set us up right and we enjoyed two pleasant nights in the valley. Great value, would visit again.

    Disliked:

Next to a minor road, but not noisy after bedtime. Pitches are a little close but quite tolerable!

Level pitches, clean facilities and the staff was so welcoming. 15/08/2017

On arrival was greeted by a lovely man who made sure I knew about the facilities available and showed me my pitch. After parking up he walked up to check that I was comfortable and that I had everything I needed. I loved the fact that there was numerous stand pipes for water so no long journeys. To the back of us was an abundance of bushes and trees and a small water course. The site is basically grass and is set down from the road. The pitches are level and there is a lovely feeling of relaxation.

The facilities are clean and spacious with lots of hot water, the site manager clearly works hard to keep them maintained. This appears to be a great site for adults and lone travellers and because of the site manager it feels very safe.

    Disliked:

The road noise nothing that the camp site can do as there is already greenery creating some screening. The facilities are clean but there are no doors on the showers just a curtain.

Local attractions

The chalk downlands of the Elham Valley are the suggested starting point for hikes around the area; if you're feeling energetic, make it your mission to do the whole 22 and a half mile route of the Elham Valley Way, starting at Hythe and finishing, like certain pilgrims, at Canterbury Cathedral.

Rest up when you arrive then investigate the cathedral further: Canterbury's most famed landmark is the oldest cathedral in England and is of course where Chaucer's lot amused themselves in quarantine by telling many tales. The Canterbury Tales is an award-winning attraction in the city (yes, yes, as well as a book); after that, wander around the shops and pubs before an evening in one of Canterbury's restaurants. And then perhaps another pub…

Also have a wander around the 90 acres of ancient parkland of nearby Howletts Zoo Park, where animals to see include lions, tigers, rhinos and elephants.

Must see

  • Howletts Wild Animal Park (6.0 miles)
  • St Augustine's Abbey (7.0 miles)
  • Canterbury Cathedral (7.1 miles)

National Trust

  • The White Cliffs of Dover (9.5 miles)
  • South Foreland Lighthouse (10.6 miles)
