General

  • Scenic location in the Elham valley seven miles from Canterbury
  • In the North Downs, a 12-mile drive from the Channel Tunnel
  • Easy access to the M20 and the A2.

Ever been to the Elham valley? It's a right pretty part of the North Downs, made up of a chalk valley and set between Folkestone and Canterbury: the 22.5-mile Elham Valley Way is right pretty and right recommended too.

If you're seeking a stay around these parts (also recommended, to put up tired feet), have a look at Goldpark Leisure right in the valley and surrounded by the striking scenery for which the valley is renowned. It's about seven miles from Folkestone and Canterbury and under 10 from Dover's white cliffs, or you could go on further adventures as it's also only 12 miles from the Channel Tunnel...

The site has an amenities building with a toilet and shower room also suitable for disabled guests, a washing-up area and a reception with helpful info on the local area.

Leave the car behind once you get here: the bus stop outside the Goldpark Leisure gate has services stopping at it to take adventurers to both the Kent cities nearby. If you do want to drive, there's easy access from the site to the M20 and the A2.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Dogs are not allowed during high season between 01/08 and 31/08.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Only a few other people staying when we were there, and that all the pitches have electric hookups for such a good price is great.
What a lovely guy the owner/manager is. Greeted me and my daughter, making us feel really welcome. He even came round later in the evening and asked everyone on site if they would like anything from the shops as he was going. Toilets and showers were lovely and clean. Very quiet at night, so good sleep had by us. We’ll definitely go back.

Mark was absolutely excellent, such a lovely man. Any question we had was sorted without a fuss, and observations with others was that he always dealt with people good natured-ly and efficiently. Makes all the difference to any stay. The site is great, good size with really good facilities. We will definitely want to stay here again!

The manager was very friendly and welcoming and as he lives on site you felt as though he would deal with any issues. The little touches like free washing up liquid and handsoaps which were topped up regularly and the anti slip circles in the showers. Nice views good local village.

    Disliked:

Although I’ve scored low for facilities this is only to show that there aren’t many eg no camp shop etc but the facilities that are there are clean and well maintained lovely warm showers etc

Everything apart from the shower! This place is both absolutely soulless and desolate. It's now obvious to me that it's intention is as as a 'stopover' site for those en route to catch a ferry.
We paid £60.00 for 2 nights, 2 adults motorhome pitch. Shared water and electric hook up.
The closest village is a good 40 minute walk, on an unlit road without a footpath, it was still light when we set off but pitch black within 20 minutes. The site manager told us it was only 2 miles, but in actual fact it's 4 and a half, with lots of hills!
Luckily for us, we caught a bus back which dropped us directly at the campsite gate. There was no information displayed at the site about the bus!
Needless to say we didn't stay for the 2nd night.
All in all a very disappointing stay 😕

From the manager...

Firstly what can I say only sorry you didn’t like your stay with us but thanks for your review
We do have bus information the bus stop is outside the gate both ways folkstone / Canterbury
BARHAM is 1.8 miles and Elham is 1.9 miles we are in the rural countryside Elham valley area of outstanding beauty
not everywhere has footpaths
Our hookups are free and all pitches have one

Local attractions

The chalk downlands of the Elham valley are the suggested starting point for hikes around the area; if you're feeling energetic, make it your mission to do the whole 22 and a half mile route of the Elham Valley Way, starting at Hythe and finishing, like certain pilgrims, at Canterbury Cathedral.

Rest up when you arrive then investigate the cathedral further: Canterbury's most famed landmark is the oldest cathedral in England and is of course where Chaucer's lot amused themselves in quarantine by telling many tales. The Canterbury Tales is an award-winning attraction in the city (yes, yes, as well as a book); after that, wander around the shops and pubs before an evening in one of Canterbury's restaurants. And then perhaps another pub…

Also have a wander around the 90 acres of ancient parkland of nearby Howletts Zoo Park, where animals to see include lions, tigers, rhinos and elephants.

Must see

  • Howletts Wild Animal Park (6.0 miles)
  • St Augustine's Abbey (7.0 miles)
  • Canterbury Cathedral (7.1 miles)

National Trust

  • The White Cliffs of Dover (9.5 miles)
  • South Foreland Lighthouse (10.6 miles)
